Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
I've completed my constantly shifting one room hack and have decided that it should be a 4 room hack, each room massive and full of puzzles with different graphic sets.

I was getting to work on the second room with green brinstar (renamed Neo Eden) and decided that my schedule won't allow me enough time to ever see this concept fullfilled.

If anyone would like to take a stab at this conceptual hack, feel free. I can provide an ips and save file which locates you before the next room. Whoever takes this can choose whatever graphic set they want but I still feel good vibrations about Neo Eden. When that's done you pass it to the next person for room 3.

Room 4 will require an experienced designer as to create a proper self destruct sequence so you can get back to the ship. If it's not feasable then I just don't know.

Edit: As a footnote for the second designer, you'll already have 10m 10sm 15pb, 2et, morph, bomb, grapple, and speed. Given that I had to work with a room with no enemies, I had to make it skill based, and pretty much used every trick I knew. Now that enemeis can be incorporated into the mix, if anyone is great with editing their strength, that would be useful. This hack is meant to be really hard, so the harder it gets, the better.
Thread title:
I might be able to work on this when I finish my full hack. But I don't know when that will be. Do you want my type of level design?

That could be a lot of fun. I wouldn't be able to create a proper escape sequence with just one room, but I'd like to do room 3, perhaps.

bolognab: this is a fairly ambitious hack idea. Each room would have to encompass an entire subworld in one room. I may even take the role of final touches once it's complete, but that may change if some people don't want their work touched. Each room should take time to get through, lots of time, and given that the first room already provides you with pretty much all the stuff you need to access gates and doors, it may need to be enemy filled, with a grey door that doesn't open till all enemies are taken out, etc. In short, I really do like your room design, it's just the first room and what you get from it that needs to be taken into account, plus I don't want to deviate you from your personal projects.

ducknerd: if this picks up, you got room 3 :)

Err, I was never able to beat your updated hack, as I was stuck after missiles. Embarassed I could get around to try finishing it though...anyways, i will probably be able to do room 2 after my hack is done (nearing 50%)

I'd be happy to help with anything i can, if you liked the style of level design i used in Noobsmasher i could do a room or part of one, or if not i have a patch which incorporates deathtroids into a ROM if you want it.
Somehow, I missed this thread until just now, but I would love to work on this. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I could do a 1 room escape sequence. I could definitely do 3 (mb, room after, first room), maybe 2 if I experiment with the room after mb some, but then there's the problem of having to use the boring mb fight to start a self-destruct.

In other words, I'd rather not do room 4 if it'll be the self destruct required, as its kind of limited in the design possibilities, but I would be open to anything really. Unfortunately, like Bolognab, I am immersed in a hack of my own (long awaited SM: Soup). If you still need help for this in late January/early to mid February, pm me, and I'll gladly put my hack aside to help out. I will warn you however: due to circumstances beyond my control, a room I design will have at least one use of the mockball.

fiizzer, that's great! those metroids have got to be the funnest enemies I've ever encountered. The perfect challenge for this hack as enemies will have to play a larger role now to proceed cause room one basically gives you everything.

cardweaver, yeah the sequence will be tough, I guess room 4 will have to be segmented. I don't want to stray aside anyone from their personal projects and theres no rush for this one. If anything it gives me more time to perfect the first room.

I could make room 4.
Since I would enjoy that room the most any way.  :-D

Heres the Deathtroid.ips for an unheadered rom (hopefully), hope its useful to you.

Edit: This is now free for use in any hack.  It changes the movement style and colour, but the method of killing them is the same as normal metroids, if you want them to die like they do in Noobsmasher, change the EnemyShot value in the enemy editor to 802D, and change the vulnerabilities to your preference.

fizzer,  :-D you'll get a mention in the readme file once this project is done if anyone uses them (and I hope they do!)

so from what I can tell..

Room 1 - DMantra
Room 2 - (open (possibly bolognab, Cardweaver, or fizzer|me-is-liam))
Room 3 - Ducknerd
Room 4 - Green-Kirby

Green-Kirby, you'll have to link back to Room 1, theres room for a door in the bottom right of my map.

Now as for the quadrant design scheme, there wont be map coverage so rid all the map of the world you're working on, re-naming your area is also important. I've went over some ideas for how the design can work best and I've got a few ideas floating around..

While I  don't have any thing against massive rooms... It will mess up the event and design if I don't have a few rooms.
Since the escape needs some challenge.
Concept C. Is by far the best one for me.
It would also be good if you left a few tile sets open for me to use on the escape.
Example:
Tourian -> maradia -> (room 1)Crateria.

Also leaving the space jump upgrade for me would be awesome too.  :-D

Also please set up some real time chat for the project.
Group projects on the forum thends to get spamy and long wait between messages. (lol time zone)
If you pick MSN. (Not what I would)
Here is my e-mail: Green-Kirby(guess-what)hotmail.com

EDIT: I can also add my: NoMap.ips  removing all map recording. It may help people design more freely.  :P

Yeah It'll most likely come down to variations, possibly variations with segway halls.
Real time chat for the project is good too, forum posting won't cut it when this gets underway.
My email is: dmantra(you-guessed-it)hotmail.com. I'll be gone this weekend.

I like how this is picking up, but it won't move until we have a Room 2 designer ready.
I would sure like to be in this project, but if it would hold you guys back timewise, by all means forget me. ;)

I'd gladly take room 2, Ive added your MSN DMantra, im guessing the difficulty increases as you progress?

All right! I'm ducknerd@gmail.com. May I take Tourian tileset and the deathtroids?

Same here, and it looks like you already have a kick-ass team. Good luck and get to it!  grin new

That may be hard. Tourian tile set needs to be used in mother brains room.
Deathtroids could be any where in the game though! :)
Meri Kurisumasu! ^_^
I hope you creators inbetween will challenge eachother so it doesn't end up half-arsed.

err.. d_mantra(at)hotmail.com..

I'll get to adding you guys. Looks like fizzar got room 2 so we can get this underway :)
One thing though; the one part of the hack that will be kind of boring would most likely be the first room, since a lot of people have already played (or in my case, tried to play) the one room hack. I reccommend you at least move around some stuff to make the room have a fresher feel for the secondtime players. However, if you already changed a lot of the stuff, please ignore this.

PS, can you make it a little less linear, as I was never able to progress through your one room hack after missiles. Embarassed

I don't think "less linear" would be the way to go. I think that making it linear, but a little more obvious about where to go would be better. I too have played your one-room hack, and I too got stuck a couple many many times. Even subtle hints, like a cracked block, or a slightly different floor tile would have made your hack much more enjoyable and also much smoother.

The route is still pretty much the same. I've just added way more detail, 3 more screens, and made secrets more obvious but still kept their difficulty intact.
Every Bit Counts
if anyone needs help with pointers or if they have a glitchy (or as I should say, messed up) scrolling background like the ones in Crateria (you know, the background that becomes messed up like in the Samus's ship room like in some hacks), I'll be happy to help.
I think the big problem I see for the designers here is that you, DMantra, have most of the path opening items in your room, leaving very little leeway for the other designers about which items they can use in they're rooms.  Sure, one room could be underwater requiring Gravity to progress, but I can't see many situations being possible in the other rooms.

I think that you may need to rethink which items you have in your room.  It has all three door opening items, grapple beam(for grapple blocks and large gaps) Speed Booster (SB blocks) morph ball (small passages) and bombs (bomb blocks and bomb jumping).  Now I know that you need to keep the morph ball and bombs in your room along with missiles, but maybe you could make it so another room has Supers and the third one has Power bombs or something.  Or have both Missiles and Supers in your room and give Speed Booster to another room.

All in all, I just think some thought needs to go into who gets to use which items.

Aside from my mini-rant above, I think that a pretty neat idea would involve going back to another room for another item.  You know, typical Metroid backtracking.
