This is a tightly optimized TAS I did to demonstrate how to optimally use the recently discovered "GT Code" in a speed-oriented run. Be prepared for the latest speed tricks and boss strategies, with many of them not even available in regular runs for a change.

Enjoy!

What an amazing glitch found in this game. Awesome TAS Saturn, as always.
Oh yes !!! Really looking forward to watching this Saturn. Of course many of us have our qualms with the use of the GT code in a console run but a TAS of it is certainly cool regardless. Nice one for making it, well done !

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Great run, Saturn.  A few questions:

Just after Bombs, you mockball, and use one bomb to destroy the blocks heading toward Brinstar.  Recent;ly, all of the TASes have used two Bombs, followed by running through the blocks.  So, which is the accepted, faster method?  Is it this again?
You had no annoying blippy sound when your health was below 30 after being hit by the Gold Pirate, just before entering GT's back door.  Is this a bug?
You didn't X-ray Phantoon.  I presume you played with this, but it wasn't possible to combine Missiles / X-ray quicker than this method, or even one round?

Thanks Saturn, for that very entertaining run!!!

I can answer one of your questions Quietus. The loss of sound when your energy is critical happens even on console.

That was a great run indeed. Lot's of very entertaining room strats. Was also nice to see it was the same route that I had in mind when I did my TAS of the same run that was played in real time to show how a console run could look.

I didn't know you could jump in the GT door and still get it to work. I thought you had to be morphed and bomb jump in.

I loved how Draygon died so quickly. I think Phantoon was killed with missiles because the x ray kill had been done already a few times in the run and doing another would become tedious, and also Saturn probably knew that doing it would still keep the final time as 18 and not anything else if done a different method. And honestly the missile one rounder still looks awesome and incredibly skillful which is what a TAS is designed to show off.

I really liked some of your room strats toward the end. Made good use of the that curious grapple beam morph trick in maridia exit. Another strat I liked was the return from wrecked ship where you speed boost space jumped to the lake door, shot it open and speed balled in and spring balled over the lake. I still don't know why I never thought of that at the time. I shinesparked to the door, I fail lol.
Almost happy

It was apparently slightly faster to not use double boms on the blocks, which shocked me a bit. And Phantoon is really weird with X-ray/Plasma, what I presume happens is that his invincibility timer from the plasma beam only ticks down while his eye is open, so you can keep X-raying all day long after hitting him with it, and it still won't hit twice, and in fact, when he opens his eye the next time after that he'll still be invincible for a while.

Anyway, I think I said everything I wanted to say about this over at Tasvideos already :P

LOL, bollocks? I don't know what that means, but its hilarious!!!!
hehe yea it's like British slang for "oh shit" lol

Awesome!!! I know some British slang now too!!!
Well it is a swear word too don't forget and it's slang for testicles but it's not that severe. Probably a little worse than shit. It's mostly used like this "oh bollocks !" when you've just messed something up, like in a speed run for example. Or it can be used when something stated is obviously false and you say "that's bollocks" lol.

Anyway back on topic.

that was a very interesting run. i just found out about the GT code when i saw the submission at TASvideos and it is a pretty cool code. it is really weird no one found that until now. it should get the award of "most well hidden code in a videogame ever" (that is, unless some other popular game tops this).
the code has made me want to replay SM a bit just to try it.

The code was founded by JAM on these forums about 3 months ago and has been talked about way to often IMO. The TAS was amazing though.

I wonder if the Metriod Skip that was done in this TAS was only possible because of the Arm Pumping? If not I wonder if its possible on console?
The metroid skip version that Saturn did really doesn't seem feasible when I tried it, and this is PAL where the metroid is more docile and lenient on letting you make some headway.
