Just finished up my new 100% TAS of Super Metroid, implementing a lot of new tricks and strategies as well as a bunch of general optimizations. Final time went down from about 36:03 to 34:50 compared to the previous run.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Excellent.  I can't wait to get home now.  Are any of the new tricks major alterations, or are they primarily frame savers?
Almost happy
There are a handful of bigger ones, most notably at GT, and a lot of new strategies that might not have saved a ton of time but looks very different. There's a lot that's pretty similar to the old one as well though, of course, with only minor improvements.
I like turtles.
Well, there goes a good chunk of my morning, nice one.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
In the early Super room, I presume you've tested the obvious, but it feels like it'd be quicker to grab the Supers to open the pink door, and get the missiles on the way back out as you mockball under the gates.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Love the multiple damage boosts in the Wrecked Ship attic. Cool

The extra door transitions obviously makes it slower in realtime but it's about 1 second faster ingame which is what I aimed for in this run.

I'd guessed as much.  It just always looks odd. aiwebs_004
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
LOL at the climb to Spring Ball.

There's too much to write down that is awe inspiring, and cannot be truly appreciated on a single watch. I loved the damage boost from the waver in the bubble room going down to collect the missile. The attic is just beyond superhuman at this point and enters the realm of "wtf did i just watch".

I was made aware of the vast contribution of ideas and relentless testing from you and everyone over at TAS videos and Reeve and forensic from here that went into making the final product. Congrats on getting it finished. It will be marvelled at and studied for years to come !

Note to CP: You are a master at entertaining viewers with the 'Samus spaz attack' during waiting times aiwebs_011
Really awesome to watch, nice work.

When you turned off the Varia Suit, I had a hunch that you might be preparing for a Crystal Flash. The GT missile, though, 20 minutes later? Crazy planning, there.

Actually, that pause was partially for the GT crystal flash, but Varia had nothing to do with it. Varia is turned to be able to perform the stand-up glitch on MB, the reserve-tank is emptied to be able to make the CF (although that turned out to be necessary anyway due to the long shinespark), and spazer is turned of for Botwoon and Draygon. Initially I intended to do all this later but when I realized that the extra energy in the reserve was necessary for the spark I did it earlier and just made sure to avoid getting any energy in the R-tank for the rest of the run (though this was only really a problem at the E-tank under charge beam where all the enemies had to be manipulated to not drop any health).

Speaking of drops. You did a remarkable job at manipulating Super Missiles. Also Behemoth is right man CP you got style dood!!!

Thanks again for the mention I hardly did anything but, I'm glad I was able to help in some way. Because with all the TAS' you and the the rest of the Super Metroid TAS community provided I learned a lot about this game and I'm very grateful that we have you guys. Thanks for everything!!!

Also congratulations on getting published!!!

I think its blaspheme you didn't get a STAR for this Masterpiece.
Wow, that was quite the interesting/amazing run. That crystal flash in the GT room has me thinking of all sorts of NMBM stuff. Would it be possible for a human to do that or is it TAS only? I didn't even know you could crystal flash in the air. It's a blue door by the crumble blocks in that room, right? It's been so long since I've even been in there. If not all my ideas are meaningless.

I think it would be incredibly hard to pull of in realtime. For the CF to trigger you need to be on the exact same X and Y position as where the PB was placed, and not be moving, which only happens for 1 frame after hitting the roof. And there's also only a 1 frame window to actually trigger the CF too, and after that there is a trick performed with the grapple beam in order to get on top of the blocks that also has incredibly tight timing, where you need to fire the grapple beam, immediately aim down and then move forward again, at the exact right time.

No problem.  I'll have a console vid up in no time... aiwebs_001
Anywhere, everywhere
This was fantastic to watch. I haven't seen a Super Metroid run in quite some time, so this was really fun to see. I loved all of the shenanigans in and around the Crocomire fight, and the Wrecked Ship the most. All of the damage boosting was really cool.

There's an encode without any cutscenes (door transitions, item collection jingles) now, which is pretty neat.
