possible speed trick:

while fighting Power Bomb Guardian, i managed to land in the magnetic rails after opening the 3rd switch to drop the ceiling thing on him. i don't know exactly what i was holding but i think it was up+right and he shot at me when i started to fall and i managed to get very close to the last switch's rails (my 3rd switch was the 2nd one to the right from the area where you must climb always, so the last one would be the 2nd one to the left)

this could save some time if pulled off correctly. i failed because the enemies knocked me down later and i had to climp up again.
Is it possible to get back to the door leading to Hive Temple access after killing Quaddy/climbing the big platform with Spider using a very good roll/dash jump? (don't touch the elevator before starting the fight!)
I can come close, but close isn't close enough.

Light Suit before Torvus idea:
-ealry PB, enter Sanctuary
-enter Dynamo access SW and wallcrawl to the morph ball tunnel leading to Spider while Dynamo Works is El'ed (you can unmorph back into the room somewhere in the morph ball tunnel)
-kill Spider (3bsj's hopefully clear the halp pipes),
-Echo skip wallcrawl, ing hive key skip with 3bsj, kill Quaddy, get Annihilator
-climb platform with Spider and get back to Hive temple access
-enter hive gyro chamber sw and wallcrawl in front of the Anni door in Hive temple
-get energy and escape via hive gyro chamber sw (asssuming it's necessary)
-do Sanctuary Temple w/o Screw

I'm not sure about Spider w/o Boost (I've seen a movie from doninss showing you can unmorph in the Spider fight if Dynamo Works is El'ed, that gave me the idea) and if it's possible to get back to Hive Temple access.
Rotating Colors Puzzles (see 1st post):

For the first, lower puzzle,
The quick solution used in runs is: a,b,c,d
The other 4 shot or better solution is: d,a,a,c
(Which has the advantage of having only 3 arm cannon repositions.)

For the second, upper puzzle,
The quick solution used in runs is: c,c,c,a,a,d,d
The only 6 shot or better solution is: a,a,d,d,b,c
(Which would be worse than the original as it involves 4 arm cannon repositions. The other 7 shot solutions involve 4 repositions or more.  Stick with the original sequence for speed.)
grin new  I pulled this off first try! (OK, I did have to switch beams. :P )
This isn't a speed trick, but isn't important enough to start a topic. This topic does seem to be the closest match.

I've been wanting to test this for awhile.

http://www.geriatricgamer.com/mp2/Save_CS.avi (Let cut-scene run after loading save, Save Station B - Sanctuary.)

http://www.geriatricgamer.com/mp2/Save_noCS.avi (Cancel cut-scene as soon as possible.)
...I thought as much from eyeballing it.  Amazing that you're punished for skipping a cutscene by having to sit there for longer than the scene's duration.  You think this was intentional or a bug?  Either one wouldn't surprise me given Nintendo's track record of playtime fascism in the Prime series.
I think it might have more to do with load sequence.  This is purely assumption, but I do believe the game will load room state and textures so the game HAS a cutscene to play, then work on getting the actual play engine up and running.  By skipping the cut scene ASAP, you'd basically be forcing the game to load everything at once, which will make the lens bounce around trying to read all the data.  Hence the longer delay.
There are other save stations that exhibit this behaviour - but it gets weirder than that. The save in Hydrodynamo Station - if you skip the cutscene, you shoot the door and it opens immediately. If you let the cutscene play out, you shoot the door and you have to wait for it ! Contrast this with the opposite case - Gathering Hall in Prime 1, where the game loads Gathering Hall while the cutscene plays out, so if you skip the cutscene, you're penalised waiting for the door to open while the next room loads.

So, (generally speaking), in Prime 2 you're better off skipping loading cutscenes, and in Prime 1 you're better off letting them play ...

Weird.

yay! i managed to improve the power bomb guardian speed trick and beat him with only 3 spider ball track climbs.
i held up on the stick and laid a bomb and the blast made me stay in the rails. i could blast 2 switches in sucession. my fight was faster than the one in the any% run (too bad i didn't record since i managed it on my first try)

btw, if you miss 1 shot while shooting a seeker door, if you shoot the remaining target before the others reappear, you can still open the door. this one is probably known already.
I figured this is the best place to mention this (apologies if it wasn't, I haven't been here in a long while and I really need to get to bed right now)... but in Speed Tricks: Battleground, the video on the upper right and the one on the bottom appear to be the same. Where's the screw attack goodness promised by the text?
I watched the two you mentioned with QT7 as embeds (Firefox 2) and with VLC after saving to disk (VLC windows > QT7 windows for faithful repro of AVC) I also watched the first part of the other one (still loading). They are exactly as advertised for me. (Ing fight, SA goodness, Ingclaw to platform.)

I would guess that this should probably be posted in the Metroid 2002 forum.

Ing, Ingclaw, and Metroid have been added to my spell-check dictionary. ;]
I'll double check, but I suspect that you're experiencing a caching problem.

You can get Hall of comabt mastery missile expansion without spider ball and you can skip long spider ball maze.

This is good shortcuts on 100% speedrun.

You can get early missiles without spider ball and you can skip spider ball maze, if i remember right: Sparky don,t use that.

This save almost 30-40 seconds game time.

Jump double bsj and continued screw attack. You can skip long spider ball maze. It save almost 30 seconds your time. But this trick is pretty hard, took first time almost 30 attempt. But still if anybody want save lot time this is very good shortcuts on 100% run.
kip,I have been trying to do the kip dash in the watch station acces but it just doesn't work and I need help. This is what I do:

I tap b hold L and move the stick left and I let go of the stick so it goes back to the center (I do all this in the center of the edge)
then the screen freezes and I hold r  place the stick slightly to the
down right  and let go of L and hold it again without scaning the door and I fall down and die and nothing happens please help me.
Quote from galiwii:

you shouldn't be doing that, you should go from left to down / down-right as soon as the stick hits left. You should be holding down/down-right before or just as the screen freezes.

It took me like 100 tries to do it first time and I can do it 50% or better now, so practice definitely helps.

*****post 11.june******

I find third alternate method get reactor core early energy tank without spider ball and without rezbitz. There is two older methods:

http://www.metroid2002.com/echoes/early_tank_reactor_core.php

My third alternate method is bit slower but my opinion bit easier than rezbitz method. But still hard.

1-Use single bsj assist screw attack onto the reactor edge
2-Jump regular space jump onto the reactor blue cap.
3-When you are opposite energy tank, jump screw attack in hole and get energy tank.

This not easy way, but probably bit easier than rezbitz method. It slower too, not much slower but i think it is almost 10 seconds slower.

EDIT: 13.june**********

Well i find couple new trick.

Torvus plaza energy tanks: My method:

-This is slower than sparky method, but much easier, and much faster than orginal method. I working almost one hour that sparky method, but it doesn,t work never. And i decide find own method.

-My own little method sounds like crazy, but i can du that very often. It is much easier what i thinking.

1-Your must be kill sporb enemy your power bomb because it is very annoying

2-Go right side upper spider track and load your boost ball fully. (that spot is pretty precise)

3-when you are opposite higher platform, launch your boost ball and unmorph fast just before when you getting hit a wall. If you manage that right, Samus stay up onto the ledge. That unmorph timed is pretty precise. It can took several tries first time. But overall it is pretty easy when you learn it. I can sometimes du that 3-4 times successive without dying. This not too hard, but sometimes pretty randomly.

4- When Samus stay up onto the ledge, Jump easy ghetto onto the upper ledge, and continued screw attack and get energy tanks. (Altenate you can going in morph ball cannon, it is as fast as screw attack, i think.)

I think this method is fast enought, it is almost 10-12 sec slower than Sparky method, but much easier. Hopefully peoples understand what i mean. My explains sounds like very complicate, because this is hard explain and my english suck little bit, but anyway.

EDIT 2*****
I test R-dash new updates. I can du combat visor R-dash. It working as good as scan visor R-dash. It is harder find right camera spot because enemys moves everytime.
There are quite a few methods for the Reactor Core E Tank in the wiki. I don't remember that exact one though.

Red Scarlet's method for the E tank in Torvus Plaza (wiki) is a lot like your new method. You unmorph to land on the higher ledge though, so no ghetto is needed. It's just as easy and a little faster. (Still slower than Sparky's method though.)

The Speed Tricks page for Torvus Plaza shows a method slightly different method than Sparky's. It's a bit slower, so it must be easier if it was used on the main pages. (I find them both equally hard. ;p )

I know can't watch anything but flash, so here:

Well thanks. I test that scarlet method and it was pretty easy, even easier than my own method, it working very well, took only couple failed attempt for me. Scarlet method was bit faster than my own method, i think 5-7 seconds faster than my own.

That second method was hard when i watch your second video. It doesn,t work yet but i was lazy practice that because that scarlet method was much better, easier & almost as fast as.
I've been playing through this game again and I've found a trick I don't recall hearing about.  When samus unmorphs she can fire a beam shot OR a missile shout as she is unmorphing in third person view, this could easily be used to save a second when opening doors after a morph passage or just rolling down a long corridor.
Anywhere, everywhere
Yep, that's known. It can save precious milliseconds in a run. >_>
It's definitely worth doing in some places, but only for doors that open immediately. For doors that you end up waiting for you might as well just focus on getting to the loading trigger point as quickly as possible. Messing around trying to shoot the door will only cost you time.
I noticed one of the differences between your two most famous runs, DJ, was that you did the Emerald Translator skip in one (low % SW-assisted 1:55) and not in the other (any % 1:38).  Is there a reason this isn't done aside from difficulty and the need to collect it for the latter anyway?  Thinking about it, I can't help but conclude that it would be faster to go ahead and do the 2BSJ over the gate, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'd be very glad to be wrong actually, considering I can't get the instant unmorph anymore for the original BSJ, let alone lay bombs fast enough to do the DBSJ with any consistency (though I am working on this).
Sorry, it's been a while ... which gate are we talking about ?
Quote from DJGrenola:
Sorry, it's been a while ... which gate are we talking about ?
The room is Dark Forgotten Bridge.  The skip was done in part 8 of the low % run.  It's the gate (fence, whatever) you have to hop in order to get to Boost Guardian when skipping Emerald translator and the same gate (fence) you hop when leaving after that fight whether you chose to skip the translator or not (for speed purposes).  This is the same fence used to enter the SW in this room in both the light and dark versions.
Ah, that one ... I did consider that, but the problem is that with two energy tanks you need that save before Boost Guardian. Coming the other way you go via the save station. To go over the fence and save before the fight will cost you around 20 seconds, and I wasn't really convinced it was much faster if any (unless you know differently, which is very possible). I seem to remember that it would also have made the segment very hard, but I have hay fever and I've been taking antihistamines and they've made me sleepy ...
