That's what theyre going to find out..it might be just if you actually take the temple's energy.

Oh, and my method for the underwater dash works on dry land also..but it doesn't seem to take you farther than a normal double jump..I guess it could be used instead of turning or something weird, as it seems faster.
Hmm.. found an interesting bit of info for shortening the 2nd Dark Samus battle (In the Fortress):

Using Charged Dark Beam shots, I was able to totally CREAM DS on my latest run: I used pretty much all 100 of my ammo, but the battle was very quick. This is great news for low% runs, especially when you only have 21% of the items at that point Wink (I have an extra missile, energy tank, and beam ammo: Nothing more)

I thought it was interesting that the DARK beam is the best thing against DARK Samus however... :?
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.

Hm...  but if you take the energy from the Dark Temple, you can't leave the world you got the energy from--there's a psychic Luminoth barrier on the door to the elevator back to the Temple Grounds.

Exactly, that's why they're just going to beat the boss then leave, and NOT get the energy from the temple.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Oooohhh.

I get it now.  Yeah.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
But wouldn't you eventually have to put the energy back anyway? Or have you tested and the game is stupid and gives you them all when you get the third?
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Yeah, it's been tested with an AR.  U-Mos gives you the Light Suit after you restore the energy to Sanctuary Fortress, regardless if you did it to Agon or Torvus.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
And Radix is skipping the Dark Suit, and when he returned the Torvus energy, U-MOS told him that there's only 1 temple left.

But I'm thinking for 100%, you need to go to the energy rooms, because of the item after them (after Chykka I don't think the elevator down appears, which is the only way to an Energy Tank).
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
You can get the Energy Tank in the lower level of Dark Torvus Temple before you fight the Chykka.
>_>

I still don't know if it's possible to defeat Quadraxis without the Dark Suit.  We've been thinking wallcrawl around the battle, but that would be...meh.  Difficult.  Plus you'd skip the Annihilator.

And like GM mentioned, I tested with an AR...it doesn't matter WHAT the hell you do/don't do...U-mos will give you the Light Suit when you restore SF's energy.  Although it's strange, because there's only two light beams in real time, but three in the cutscene.  And just like MP, the NEXT suit shows in the cutscene.  The Dark Suit glowing with light...looks weird.  I was actually laughing really hard as I watched.  Dunno why. :P

So...after you beat Amorbis/Chykka, you can just leave?  o_O
I thought the elevator only reactivated with the energy gone, and that the door was locked until the energy is taken.  Not that I checked, but it makes sense to do it that way...
Just beat quadraxis without dark suit. I had 9 tanks.
I reached the safe zone in Hive Controller Access with 01 energy left... crazy!!

Of course this isn't a speed trick unless there's enough tanks that are quick to get such that you can get those instead of getting the 3 agon keys and fighting amorbis, and then never have to spend much time healing in safe zones... as I have done.  But if that's not the case, in any% you'd actually skip dark suit!!!
always move fast

Speaking of Quad:

Any idea how to defeat him with only one energy tank? It seems that he takes out about quite a bit of energy every time I get hit by him. I have NO idea on how I can do this, since there is no safe zone in the temple to go to during the fight...
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
w00t 4 Radix.

I just beat Amorbis, got the Dark Suit, and then tried to leave the temple without going to the Energy Controller.  The door wasn't locked, which is good, but I couldn't reach it.  The platforms for the way out only rise up after you grab the Energy.  I tried tricking the game too, going from the security checkpoints and back and going from the Energy Controller and back, but the game wasn't tricked.  I almost managed to get back up to the exit door by standing on the Light Crystal right near it and jumping.  I'm not the greatest jumper, though.  Maybe someone else wants to give it a shot?  The jumps just felt and looked like they were so close....  Maybe a ghetto jump from the Light Crystal?
http://www.metroid2002.com/kip/where's_chykka.avi

I found something funny regarding Chykka. There's a way to temporarily gain a "floaty" attribute to your jumps, which gives them more height and distance (one jump is about as good as a space jump). You lose it when you get on an elevator going to another area though.
Before the fight starts, shoot down 3 of the targets binding Chykka, then get in the dark water and shoot down the last. If you're in the water at the time the cutscene starts, try jumping after the cutscene ends and see if you go higher. As you can see from the video, I went and got the temple's energy in the middle of the fight, but Chykka was nowhere to be found when I came back. I couldn't progress, and there was no dark visor to pick up, so I'm not sure if this can be used to skip Chykka for a time save (I left during the larva form; something may be different if you leave during the adult form).

Regardless, you keep the floaty attribute if you beat Chykka. Aside from taking an elevator to another area, you lose it by touching water (dark or normal), so you have to beat Chykka without touching the dark water in his room. You also don't keep it if you save the game and reload the file.

Overall, unless it's possible to take this to another area somehow (or skip Chykka's adult form and go on with the game normally), it's useless. Maybe you could get the Torvus Plaza tank without spider or something... like that's so great anyway.

Other notes:

* if you lose the floaty attribute while fighting Chykka, you can't get it back by being in dark water when the end of larva form cutscene is played (not sure about his death cutscene)
* grapples and dashes are somewhat floaty, but bomb jumps are not (doubt it can be used for a one bomb at a time ibj or anything)
* midair morph seems to be improved by it
* unknown whether terminal falls get rid of it
Getting 9 tanks in an any% run? No, no, kip would never stand for that  :P

And I am quite sure you can not leave Chykka's room right after beating him. Quite sure indeed.

And what is being done to address the "skip Gravity Booster" problem? Like I said on SCU, even if we can boost/bomb up the tunnel in Sacred  Bridge (which I'm 99% sure we can), there's a completely unpassable door inside Sanctuary Fortress on the way to the Spider Ball! No way around it, none at all! Not even a chance!
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
What door?
It's after Sanctuary Entrance (the big bridge outside). There are two Ingsmashers (dormant when you first go through the room). The puzzle is just a simple Dark Visor + Seeker puzzle, when you first open the door a Rezbit comes out.

In case it is not immediately apparent: the Gravity Booster is used only to get a single Torvus temple key in lower Torvus. To get around this, the idea is to break into Sanctuary Fortress before Chykka, get the spider ball, get the power bombs, and get the Torvus temple key without passing through any water at all. This would allow us to skip the Gravity Booster in a low% game.

EDIT: And that floaty jump is freakin awesome, kip. So all you have to do is be in the water when the cutscene starts? If so, perhaps you could be in water when any other cutscene starts and get a floaty jump from that. This would let you jump straight up to Chykka without any temple keys, which of course is a good thing  :o
Regarding skipping Chykka, I don't think that could be used in any kind of run, unless someone finds a way to destroy the ingcache's for the  sky temple keys without the dark visor.  Keeping the floating while killing Chykka could be useful, though.  I imagine floating to get items would be quicker than using spider tracks, in any case.

Also, in Dynamo Access, I noticed you can screw over the spider ball track on the run, which is probably quicker than the ghetto (may not be, due to the landing scene, though).  Regardless of which one is quicker, though, the difference is negligible, at best, as it'd be a half second difference, at best.
Hmm...
Kip:  Weird.  o_O
That is the...strangest thing I've seen yet in MP2.  (Unfortuantely, that's not saying much. :P )

Radix:  HOLY #@$*!  Awesome.  Now I don't have to try to beat him! :P (Not that I was...>_> )

Anyway:
Okay, so you're in the Dark World, at Great Bridge.  In front of the Torvus Temple.  On the Save Station room's ledge, there's a really tall plant thingy that gives you items when you kill him.  Stand on top of him, and you can space jump right to the key.  Not really useful, but if anyone ever decides to skip grapple...dunno how they'd get the Screw Attack, though. o_O

Gah.  If only there was something else that seemed skippable at this point. :(
Retro, you make me sad and angry at the same time.  Quite a feat, I'd say. Crying or Very sad  Evil or Very Mad
As for skipping an item, I suspect one of those 4 decoders could be skipped. The one I'm thinking of is Sanctuary Fortress's... Isn't the only translator door on the way to the Spider Guardian? So if we could just enter his room from the back via mid air morph, we wouldn't have to scan the door and there would be a percentage drop in one fell swoop.  Exclamation

Oh yeah I beat Quadraxis too w00t, ro><0rz, etc. etc.
Hey, that floaty thing might be useful for finding some secret worlds.
Found this stuff out while struggling to survive against Boost Guardian earlier today on Hard with 4 energy tanks:

-Charged Light shots are faster to use than Super Missiles, and about as destructive on Hard Mode. Make sure you have at least one ammo expansion though or you're not going to make it to the end of the battle.

-When in Boost Mode, the guardian tends to travel in complete triangles as he makes his way towards your position. Knowing this can give you a sense of where to roll.

-If at any time during boost mode you can hit him with a bomb, he will instantly turn into the red puddle. You can hit him either when he's charging up or while he's in the middle of a boost, but you have to get pretty close or time it perfectly. The collision field is only as wide as the bomb itself.

-Once you've killed him, there's just enough time to get a complete logbook scan if you start as soon as the final shot has connected. Recommended instead of trying to stay away from him during the battle.

I beat Quadraxis on my 2nd try without the Dark Suit...because I didn't know you could charged Light Beam the knees! Crying or Very sad It WAS SO EASY!  I made it to the bomb slot with very close to 4.5 tanks left.  I only go hit three times, too.  Damn, though.  That Light Beam made ALL the difference. Embarassed
Lecoureur: yeah, just be in the water. It's easy to do. But I don't remember any other place with dark water and a cutscene trigger... and what's even stranger is how it only works with Chykka's appearance cutscene; as I said, you can't sit in dark water when you beat the larva form and get it that way. Not sure about beating the adult form while in dark water.

There's apparently only one power bomb expansion in Torvus (not counting the actual power bomb), and I doubt this can be used to get that somehow.
