I can see that velkas armor is great against curse, but what exactly is great about velka rapier?

Probably nothing. Rapiers seem to suck in Dark Souls.

I had a lot of fun with a rapier/magic character in Dark Souls II though

Balder Side Sword is a better rapier than actual rapiers if you want a rapier, but with your low INT no magic, enchanted or otherwise INT-scaling weaponry will compare to stuff that makes use of your two boosted physical stats.

Yeah I noticed Balder's side sword wasn't going to be great for me.  Sounds like Velkas rapier will be the same.

I do like rapiers because of the quick precise stabbing.  The halberd is more powerful for thrusting but I can get two hits delivered in the same time that it takes to hit once with halberd.

The place I like to practice with weapons is the room before Ornstein against those two super sentinels.  That's why I have so many titanite chunks. 
I tend to not favor large swords that have powerful hits but they're slow and lumbering.  I can kill those guys with greatswords but I'm so vulnerable to counterattack after each swing.  The greatswords are good against enemies that are slow or easily stunned and will go down with just one hit.  I have used them on bosses before but I can pretty much bet on getting hit by the boss a lot when I use those weapons.  I guess I just prefer speed over power almost every time.

wow, getting quelaag's furysword and upgrading it was a waste of time. the moonlight butterfly's horn works just as good on the enemies in the duke's archives. not to say, even better. lol

i always think those enemies are resistant to magic...

Wow, getting the Moonlight Greatsword was way easier than I expected. I just flailed my sword around a bit and got the tail cut lol. Too bad I forgot to make a video of the 'battle'. Still remember how much of a pain getting this weapon was on my first playthrough.

great swords don't make a lot of sense for wizard characters. faith makes sense for knights though.

Ha in that room with the two super sentinels:  If I use giant club, power within, magic weapon, and dragon slumber ring to sneak up on the first one, he goes down with one R2 hit.  The other two go down with one hit as well but not as easily as the first one of course.

Oh I misread your post and was thinking of another sword that isn't useful to me because of my build, maybe astoria sword?

Trying to figure out what to do with my current boss souls.  Right now I can get lifehunt scythe(?), moonlight horn, greatsowrd of artorias, hammer of smough.  I need to look up to see if there are other, better options for these souls

Boss weapons aren't anything special, but you need them all anyway if you're going for trophies.
