Killed the wolf.  The great crystal sword is nice on bosses.
Crystal weapons can still be repaired by upgrading, btw.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It possible that that weapon can't be upgraded though, the stuff that merchant sells is weird like that.
Yeah, those can't be upgraded, just mentioning it because someone said earlier that crystal weapons can't be repaired at all. Crystal is also an upgrade path for non-crystal weapons.
I got an enchanted ember too.  Does this make my weapon upgradable with magic stat?  If so, what's the divine ember for?  I've already started my longsword on the divine path.
Divine is for holy, enchanted is for magic. They have different elemental properties and get damage buffs from different stats.

Er, never mind it's not holy - it's just called divine as well lol.

Either way, it's good that you've started upgrading a divine weapon now since you can later use it in a particularly annoying area to kill enemies that would otherwise be resurrected by necromancers.
For INT, there's enchanted and magic upgrade paths, which have some subtle differences. Look them up on the wiki if you're interested in investing in magic.

Thanks for the info.

I need to upgrade and here are my current stats.  I know there's no absolute right answer here, but ideas on what to level up?
Also, can I turn off the covenant with the cat without sinning?

VIT 30
ATT 12
END 30
STR 30
DEX 27
RES 11
INT 12
FAI 11
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Don't bother with Magic or Enchanted weapons if you aren't a sorcery build, they reduce physical damage in exchange for magic damge and drops the STR/DEX scaling to allow for INT scaling. It won't do you much good.

Divine is similar, just for FTH instead of INT. It just has a certain extra effect that will come up later that makes it worth having a Divine weapon around. Outside that one use though that Longsword will be less effective than a standard one for your character.

You can leave a covenant at anytime through Oswald iirc or just by joining another one. The cat will not be inclined to let you back in later though if you leave, I think, she's not big on quitters.

As for leveling: END/VIT are still good choices if you don't know what else to do.
You need to clear your sins, but if you just want to farm the NPCs and Sif is dead, you have no more use for the covenant anyway.

hmm...not sure if I'd mind her not letting me rejoin. I like fighting those guys.  I got the loot from her, it's not like she's going to take it back.  What about that ring she gave me?  Is that an online-only feature?
What to upgrade depends on how much farming you want to do on one character. I wouldn't recommend getting into magic on this character at all, but you can certainly do it with enough grinding. Again, I'd recommend getting VIT/END to 50/40 and then STR/DEX to 40/40 or 50/50 at most.
Yeah, the ring is just for getting summoned into the forest to fight off invaders during online play. You basically become one of those guys who fight off people for the cat.

Yeah it's online only, if you have no more business in that part of the forest you can just leave the covenant, yeah. I'd head down to the Blighttown swamp and see if Shiva has anything you might want to buy before leaving though.

Then kill him when you want to leave. Twisted Evil
Thanks.

Man I just tried fire orb on an enemy for the first time and it's pretty powerful.  I still prefer melee though, esp now that I figure out what I was doing wrong with backstabbing.  I was trying to do it while still holding my shield. Now it's easy.
Yeah, you can't backstab while shielding. That can be useful if you want to attack something from behind without backstabbing, though.

Did you find the ring behind Artorias's grave in Sif's boss arena? It boosts your backstab/riposte damage.
Yes, I'm doing 630+ damage for critical now on some enemies.

Question:  what affects drop rates for things like titanite shards?  Hollow?  Human?  Humanity?
You get item discovery from every soft humanity up to a total of 10, as well as from two pieces of equipment you can find. The equipment bonuses don't stack though, so you only need one of them.
How's your progress? The item discovery ring can be found in the next mandatory area after you beat the Blighttown boss.
Right now I'm just farming in Firelink Shrine a little, getting ready to cut down to blighttown swap to farm the leeches a while, then after doing a little upgrading I think I will check out the fake wall and then attempt the boss.
If you're farming large titanite shards for backup weapons, you don't necessarily need to. The area with the item discovery ring also has a vendor that sells large shards.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah but having a +10 weapon for that boss is fun and easy.

I'm assuming Opium has several +10 weapons already, and having the item discovery ring would make farming more shards also faster.
