It's NBMB, No Boss/Mini Boss. Basically a little stunt where you try to get as many items as you can without fighting anybody with their own room. You never actually get to finish the game, but it's a fine example of the routes opened by sequence breaking.

Saying no bosses or minibosses are allowed isn't strictly true. You're allowed to fight Ridley at Ceres station and Torizo. After that it's no bosses or minibosses, though. I believe the maximum possible known percentage for a NBNM run is 73%, although the one hosted here only achieves 72%.

I have a T-1 speed connection, and I'd love to help but I don't have the run myself. Sorry.

one question about the run, though: does Red Scarlet just play until she has all 72% of the items then backtrack to the nearest save station/ or to her ship and save, and end the run? or is it possible to glitch into the room containing the elevator to Tourian, where she fights mother brain?

I highly doubt the latter is true, but I once heard someone say that you only fight Torizo and Mother brain, instead of Ridley and Torizo. Meh :/

BTW NBMB would be interesting in prime if we could A) get past magmoor w/o varia and if the wave beam wasn't behind a miniboss :/ Anyone agree?


of course, we could make a 1BMB run, but what's teh  fun of that?

and I'm sure I'm forgetting one of the MANY mini-mini bosses in prime -_-

No, as of yet there is no known way to enter Tourian in Super Metroid without beating all the bosses. NBNM runs are impossible to "complete" so to speak.

right off the top of my head I'd guess that you could mess with the game and use the reset glitch to fall through the floor, but then you couldn't stop falling to get on the elevator....

(I AM thinking of the right secret room, right? >_> <_<)

I heard once that the statue is programmed to sink when Ridley dies, since the game assumes you've beaten the other three already.

We're talking about the room with the huge statue of all the bosses in it. If you're talking about using the time/space beam wrong and glitching up the whole room so you'd fall through the floor, it's very unlikely that that would work properly. As you said, the problem would be getting on the elevator. Still, it would be worth looking into just to see what happens.

As for defeating just Ridley, that may be a more feasable way of tackling it. You could have a Torizo, Ridley and MB only game. Not really a NBMB, but another new kind of run to attempt. This is, of course, assuming that A: you can successfully get past the statue with only Ridley down; and B: you can get into lower Norfair in NBMB conditions. It definately sounds worth a shot to me, though.

Incorrect ... long before the www existed I beat kraid last (skipping the varia), and before I did that I made sure to go to the tourian entrance just to see how well made the game was ... everything popped except kraid and the statue did not sink.

The item Scarlett doesn't get is a PB... you can see her try to get it though, so you know where it is... (and does it look like a pain in the ass to get)  I felt her frustration.

People have been known to have aneurysms because of that one :D  I've never been able to get that one in an NBMB run to this day, though I have tried at it for hours on end usually an hour at a time. 

It's the Satan of all PB Tanks, and it knows it.  It sits there, mocking me...

It's actually more taunting and condescending than that.  I can begin to hear it while I'm trying to get said tank after about 45 minutes have passed.  Every time I miss I hear a lot of the following:

"Whoops!  Too short!"
"Come on, I'm not that far up here, you can get me."
"Awww...really close that time..no really you were!"
"Just a little more...OHHHhhh, so close!  Come on, world-renowned bounty hunter, a little tank like me shouldn't be a problem for a big girl like you."

And many many more phrases.  As time wears on and enters the 1:00 mark his grin seems to widen, voice sharpen, and laugh becomes more piercing.  He mocks me and I want to slap his teeth.

too bad there isn't a way to cancel the infinite fall from the murder beam :/

BTW, yeah I was talking about the statue room. if only there was a door on the floor and THEN the elevator room... but then you'd have to use either savestates or no restarts to finish the game because then the game would be reset the next time you loaded up....

and all that work for pb 66 gone :/

It's been done on the cart...shining toaster did it I believe...that scares me.

If I did it though...I would run outside and start screaming "I AM THE CHAMPION!!!" in like...5 languages (using Babelfish, of course) and then be arrested for impersinating a clown. Thats...after I get it.

I've been thinking about this. I believe it'd actually be harder to program the game to open Tourian when JUST Ridley is beat than it is to check for all 4!!

If the statue sinking when Ridley is beat did exist, it'd be deliberate.

I doubt that. It'd either check if the Ridley statue is grayed out (if only Ridley matters), or check if no statues are golden anymore (if all bosses matter). Neither of them are very complicated.
