Yeah ... in the future, Paraxade, don't mini-mod. I'm okay with the topic because he went to the time to make those vids to show us what he found. He's not merely posting about a trick for discussion.
Thanks for your feedback everyone, I'm glad we can share our enjoyment of this game :)

Wow, that's some fancy Spider/Boost Ball maneuvering!
Is there anything in particular you do in order to not boost straight out at a 90 degree angle like I usually do, or do I just do it wrong?
If you release B boost charge while still holding Z onto a spider track, you will fire off orthogonally. To travel in a horizontal direction, you want to be "facing" that way (be in motion in that direction), and release Z immediately before releasing B. You can't move up with this technique.
Tried the Powerworks trick... guess I did the spring ball a bit too early, because the camera never zoomed out to show the whole tracks like it normally does and instead followed very closely behind the morph ball. :P It was much harder to navigate the tracks like that as I couldn't clearly see the flames.

lol yea.. if you do that again, try going to the corner to the above-left of that flame I boost ball under. The camera will keep zooming in on Samus, then freaking out, and going all the way back out, and repeat zooming in.
On another note, you can also get to the hidden world in that area quite easily: As soon as you enter the first spider track area, press Z and go "about an inch" up just above the metal railing, and boost off and un-morph. You'll just land on the invisible platform.
I've experimented with the Powerworks speed trick doing it about 30 times, and the risk is too great IMO to ever do that speed trick. The camera glitch happened to me at least 10 times. The glitch appears to happen at random with no rhyme or reason to it. I think speedrunners should not even attempt this. It just seems too risky. It is still a cool find though.
The spider tracks are still doable with the messed up camera, and besides that that's why there are segments.
I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of how far down you go before you spring ball over the edge so you end up getting to that track before you hit the camera trigger. Just go down a bit farther on the track then spring ball over the side.

Thanks, and I think it's pretty doable really. I only had the camera glitch happen to me once, and as for all of powerworks, it only requires 3 successful executions: Hop over the railing, boost under the fire, and boost across the later gap. As soon as you get good with releasing Z then B to boost horizontally (which is a skill speed-runners will need), it's really pretty standard to incorporate into a speed-run. The Hall of the Golemns missile expansion, though, is really really hard to get right lol.

I found a much easier way IMO to do it, but deleted my vid because Andrew Mills had already discovered the actual trick. He used the camera for instant morph to use bsj close to the golem. I find that much harder for some reason. I just use one of those long "tree branch-like" things on the outskirts of the platform. That becomes your "wall" so you can use bsj. I just find it much easier than Mills way and I can execute bsj much more quickly this way. Just make sure you are right in front of the branch-like object, and have the camera centered behind you, and you'll get bsj to work there every time.
Are you talking about the same thing? I'm pretty sure dphanna was referencing the item that normally requires you to grapple volt a golem, which charges a generator, which powers a spider ball puzzle. You know, the one pictured in the second video linked in the first post.
Or is there some technique involving bsjs to skip some or all of the spider ball maze, or just plain wrong altogether? >_>
My bad. For some reason I was thinking of the speed trick to get to the missle expansion in Burrows in the room after HotG. I haven't even attempted the spider ball speed trick in HoTG.
