Is it a Giant. Enemy. Crab. ?

Apparently its bestiary entry reads:
"A giant crab from the depths of Transylvanian history."

The localization was written by the same guy who put a "hit its weak point for massive damage!" joke in Contact.  I'm buying the game today I'm sure.

nn12000, you should do the honor of making "The Castlevania Topic" in Gaming.

I thought about it when Luna created the Zelda and Pokemon topics, but figured "eh".  I suppose I still can ...

(Also, I just realized Dawn of Sorrow was not in Dracula's Castle, but it's still a castle. IT COUNTS.)

It took me awhile to realize it wasn't actually Dracula's Castle (Castlevania) for the simple fact it looks a lot like it.  All the areas are there, the actual castle itself looks like it.  You got the forbidden (clock) tower as well.

Quote from Zhs2:
Why can't more Castlevanias be 3D games?

I haven't really played much of the 64 Castlevania's (lack of a decent PC controller), but from what I hear they're pretty bad.  From what I've seen though, it reminds me a lot of Ocarina of Time.

Quote from KennyMan666:
Overworld map with different locales make me feel... uneasy. Portait of Ruin sort of did that with the paintings, and they were pretty stupid. Not to mention insanely linear.

I didn't find PoR to be too linear.  But that could be because I'm not huge on sequence breaking either.  Then again, I can now blaze through the entire game is less than an hour.  I also love the fact that on my main file, I can kill both forms of Dracula in less than 2 minutes.

Quote from KennyMan666:
Personally I find Circle of the Moon to be the best Metroidvania so far. It wasn't devoid of challenge like Symphony, it has one of the best magic systems, and it actually had good bonus modes.

I never really tried out the bonus modes, but I did like the card system.  I enjoyed being able to use different whips (or swords) when you found certain cards.  ... I don't think I've actually beaten CotM yet, despite being at Dracula.  I'll have to fix that soon.

I played the three GBA Castlevanias for the first time or so... They are OK... But i still prefer good ol'Metroid

If this one doesn't have a clock tower, regardless of the fact that it does contain a castle, I am forever banishing it from the Castlevania archetype. WTF is a Castlevania without the clock tower?

And, yeah, this game does linearity like PoR. You finish one location on the map, another appears. You finish that one, and another appears. And it goes on and on and on... Hell, it even says NEW! over an area that has recently appeared or had an entrance point added to it.

Wait. There was a 3D Castlevania? You're kidding, right? aiwebs_005

If it's so linear, it should be renamed as: Castlevania: Fusion.. And make sure Biospark and Ryu love it xD

There's four (three and a half, technically), none of which I've played:
Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness,  Lament of Innocence,  Curse of Darkness.

Linear Castlevana games aren't that uncommon.

Dracula X, anyone?

While we're still on Castlevania, I'd like to mention that Order of Ecclesia actually feels more like a Contra than a Castlevania. Of course, this game has all of the RPG elements of all the recent Castlevanias; it's the fact that many of the areas are very small and most usually contain a boss. It goes for about 10 enemy-filled rooms, then a boss. Rinse and repeat. I actually believe the number of bosses is on par with the number of enemies here. Of course, no one's saying you can't go back and prepare, of course, maybe do a subquest or two, but that's not the way I'm playing it. People who don't like to grind, be warned. The bosses can actually pose a challenge, especially if you can't get their patterns down right. It is possible, though; I'm doing it that way and making it work. =)

EDIT: I think the next time I make a page break, I will post a picture of supah seyin rage.

If Ecclesia is posing a bit of a challenge, then it just went up on my "to get" list.  I like challenges and have been quite disappointed in games lately because of a lack of it.

So, I learned the hard way today that you can alter a batch file while it is running and have it read the edited part for the next process. I did it yesterday and because of the variables it had read in before the edit and the next line it read in the batch file caused an infinite loop that ran all night before i just noticed it at lunch an hour ago.

I don't remember him in Fusion.

You have to do the secret message trick 10 times consecutively in the same run, then get to the next Nav room without getting hit or killing anything. Then after Adam finishes his speech you enter the Konami code and do a handstand for six minutes. Dracula X will appear shortly after.

Oh so that's the method you're supposed to use to get the laser fangs! I've been trying to kill Adam to fight him!

It is pretty challenging, but don't take my word for it. I'm not the best Castlevania gamer evar; some people may actually find them easier than me. That's not to say I didn't have trouble, but I can see some spots where I could've avoid more attacks than before...

Nah, you need to kill Adam just before starting the self destruct sequence to unlock Julius mode, but you aren't allowed to use anything but regular beam shots. It's friggin hard dood.

Well, I did actually sit down and play through AND BEAT Portrait's Hard Mode with the Level 1 cap, so then it probably won't be as challenging I'm hoping ... Darn.

Well, I will say that I found Portrait of Ruin pretty dang easy. Sure got me caught off guard for Ecclesia. I never did the level 1 cap, though...

It's not bad for the first couple of levels/Paintings.  Once you get to the half-way point and have to fight the sisters, it gets pretty brutal right about that point.  Trying to cast sanctuary was a chore, and the Whip's Memory fight was even worse.  I ended up throwing Shurikens (sp?  Firefox says it's wrong but can't give me the right word) at it the entire time, as it was too risky to try to actually attack up close  (one hit from the whip took away half your health).  I did have the Magus ring (litterally infinite MP) and the Stellar sword (like the fully powered Vampire Killer, it deals massive damage at a quick rate) equipped through this run, which helped.
Dracula and Death though ... that battle is forgiving, but still pretty brutal.  The bible was my friend, along with Record 5 and pretty much every healing item in my inventory.  I don't think I've ever seen that battle drag out for so long before.
The prize for completing the level 1 cap hard mode is well worth it:  When you start a new file, you'll have around level 40 stats at level 1.  I honestly never had so much fun blazing through the game, defeating everything with by walking past it (that's how it seemed, anyways).
Yo.
Quote from Enny:
The Whip's Memory fight was even worse.

The cream pie was such a blessing. =P Just leveling it up with the 100 skill points allowed you to attack him at a safe distance while doing a reasonable amount of damage. Richy wasn't too bad. The sisters, meh... I actually Sanctuary'd them on the first try. laugh new

BTW, shuriken really isn't an English word, you know. Just ignore it.
"Enny"?  Why do you call him "Enny"?  Wynaut!
Yo.
Why do I call you G_Met? Why do I call The Director of Sarcasm Cacobob/Eeriebob/Whatever else can substitute for the word tomato? (BTW, the title "Director of Sarcasm" came from me, too. =P But he changed his personal text now. =( )

I can't really explain it; I nickname people I like. It's a weird habit. But enough about me; why are you so harsh on grammar, enough to say more than I feel like telling people to fix?

I'm a perfectionist, and I don't like mistakes at all.  So when I see someone else making mistakes, I get kind of annoyed.  If I could, I would edit everybody's posts to make their grammar correct.  I can't do that, though, so I have to just make do with telling them in my own posts.  A common mistake I see is when people say something like "What are you talking about!" but they're asking a question about what the specified person is talking about.
There's always the there/their/they're problem, and KennyMan can take care of that, but when I see people like Mr.Shadow (even his name is punctuated incorrectly) posting their terrible grammar, I get sort of angry because they can't get it right.  I might have told them already, it's spelled "their", not "thier", and you should use "there" anyway.  Of course we have the lack of apostrophes getting ever more common among people these days, saying "cant" "dont" Im" "Youve" and things like that.  Capitalization isn't really a problem, as long as I can tell what they are trying to say.  I remember one time when Nate was talking about BiosPark, and said he was a "taser".  I think Tomatobob then went on to make a silly rant about kids these days, get off my lawn, etc..
That brings me to the "etc." thing.  People overuse it, and by that I don't mean they use it too much, I mean they use it too many times in a row, like "blah blah blah borgshnumpel etc. etc. etc." when they should only use it once.  When used at the end of a sentence, as it often is, it still has to have the period at the end to signify that it is an abbreviation (for et cetera, if you were wondering), and also the period that goes at the end of the sentence.  That reminds me that when using ellipses, only three are needed in the middle of a sentence to create a pause, commonly used for dramatic effect.  However, when they are used at the end of a sentence, they must go along with the period, so there are four.
I also get annoyed when someone pronounces things wrong, especially thing like "escape" (excape), "et cetera" (exetera) and "especially" (expecially).  A common mistake is to use "effect" when "affect" is correct.  Another common one would be "who" and "whom".  Generally, people use "who", but in many cases, "whom" is correct.  Ex: "Who did you tell?"  It is not correct, because you would say "I told him." not "I told he."

I guess that was a little more than you expected/wanted, but whatever.

No. No, you don't. Your grammar corrections annoy the piss out of everyone, and any further off-topic posts containing such will be deleted on-sight.
