I, too, have been looking into MP3 players.  Which product will give me good battery life, large amounts of space, and good quality(I don't know if different ones give varying qualities)

And one that's sturdy, I'm very active.  I haven't read all of the past two pages so sorry if there was a definite choice already made.

Price isn't an issue.

iPod, especially because of your last one. I'd recommend the 30 GB or 60 GB models.

yeah, gotta love how apple took over windoze like that.

Apple's always had that in hardware. And the iPod IS hardware.

And "windoze" is so painfully cliche.
Do you need to use iTunes to put songs onto the iPod?  Or can I just plug it in on someone else's computer and transfer songs onto the iPod?
don't have to use itunes, but it is very difficult without it.

edit: and you can't use itunes on anyone else's computer, because they don't trust you not to steal your buddies' music.
If your computer crashes, your music on the ipod is history. How does that make it perfect?

It is?
heh yeah, never heard that before. actually, adam, whom y'all know as the guy who introduced me to metroid, recently had his hard drive crash, and he actually wasn't out all his purchased music off the itunes music store because it was all on his ipod.

You can, but you can't transfer them off the iPod without some special software or a little directory diving ([iPod name]/iPod_Control/Music is where your music is hidden).

I have done this many times to back up music I didn't want in my library, and it's easy as juice!
an ipod looks to a computer exactly like an external firewire / USB hard drive. the only difference is that before the iPod will recognise the existence of a file added to it, it is necessary to update the iPod's media database (stored on the filesystem also) so it knows it is there.

and you don't need iTunes at all.

I feel bad calling Nate and Tim "Nate" and Tim."  With the other mods and admins, it's not a problem, because they have their made-up usernames.  But calling an authority figure, I.E. Nate and Tim, bny first name?  It just feels wrong to me somehow...

It's like when I'm teaching at the dojo.  When the kids call me Noble, that's alright.  When they call me by Mr. (My last name here), that's alight.  But when they call me Kyle?  I have a problem with that.  I just feel funny using first names when referring to/speaking to authority figures.  :?

I dunno, man, it might seem weird calling nate "Mr. J." and Tim "T-dawg."

I've used my friends' multiple times and liked the ease of the interface, liked the simplicity of them, liked the amount of storage they have, as well as the extra features they include (video, photo, Podcasts, etc.). I've never actually uploaded songs to an iPod, but from the look and feel of iTunes, I don't see how it could be very cumbersome.

Um, "Podcasts" (god I hate that word) are just normal audio; they're not exclusive to iPods or anything.  The interface and simplicity thing I can't argue against, but there are other MP3 players with video, photo, and the amount of storage that an iPod has.  The uploading songs onto them thing is a personal issue; I'd much rather be able to do something myself, as opposed to having a program do it for me.

Plus I really hate iTunes.  That's another personal thing though.

No, I mean something like Mr. Jahnke would be better, since he is an authority figure.  Maybe I'm just old-fashioned like that...

Yeah, but "Mr. J" reminds me of The Jetsons.
i'm not an authority figure though ... i just provide the resources. in many real-world situations, that would make me an authority figure, but aren't real-world situations what the internet is supposed to free us from?

though i do agree that people who don't contribute anything sequence breaking wise should show ample respect to the people who originally caused me to provide the resources.
Btw, i now have some speed runs on my divx folder. These include: Scarlet's 55min run, and a random guys 100% in 90min Prime run. I have to admit, that 55 run is the most impressive thing ever. The 100% run is also quite cool and is unbelievably fast(im assuming its a non-players choice version). Then for fun, i went to look for the ssbm "runs" and found some pretty good "pika-runs". Ill probably download the rest of Scarlet's run as well as the rest of this prime run.

Total coolness 8) .

...how can you accept part of a run without the rest? That's what always bothered me about Sess's Technical Demo. It's not a full run and I can't watch every segment in one stream if there is no final one. I enjoy Ek's emurape vids in ZM, but I can't stand waiting so long for a couple minutes of video. I'll dl them all as they come out and watch them, but I won't be fully satisfied until I can watch them all together. I guess I just don't like seeing things start and not finish in one sitting.

That's why I hate when my brother has the remote. He starts watching at least two channels and keeps switching in the middle of scenes, then changes it to a commercial and watches a bit of it and I miss a punchline or an important plotline. Sometimes I wonder if he does it on purpose. You can't frickin' watch two programs at once! It doesn't work! Even though they were reruns, I still felt like I missed it.

That's why I hate when my bro's watch movies drunk, too. They don't even watch it! They put it on to see a couple gags and are too loud to even catch them. Sometimes they stop it in the middle, too. Almost all the time, they'll get up and leave for long periods of time throughout it. How is that watching a movie? How can you watch a movie if you only glance at the screen once in a while? Whenever we see a comedy, my brother always tries to be funnier. One time he was talking to the screen and I told him to shout louder because the guy on tv couldn't hear him. He, of course, did. But he was quieter after that, so I guess he got the hint.

I dunno, I guess it's just a peeve I have. Sorry about the rant.
But isn't the wait worth the awesomeness?
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
I don't even wait anymore. I just check back every so often when I get bored and download whatever I don't have.
Can someone elaborate for me the system of which you upload your songs unto your ipod?
you plug in the ipod and, if necessary, open itunes. it does the rest.

if there's not enough room on your ipod for all your music, it asks you if you want it to make a selection for you. if not, you can just click checkboxes to put on individual playlists you make. i have to do that because i have just under 60 gig of music and only a 4 gb nano.

That's assuming you've got all your music on iTunes, right? Not that big of a problem at all, but it might trip up someone trying the procedure based on your instructions.
ah yeah, that's the actual syncing procedure. if you're not using itunes yet, you'd have to install it and let it import all your music like ark's been doing.

Which is a bit of a pain. :P I've been importing songs from CD and Windows Media Player for the past few weeks. I'm sure that if I had a faster computer, it would go much more quickly, but right now, on this 698 MHz machine, it's taking forever. And it also slows down all my other programs while importing. Oh well.
