[changetopic]I been playing Timesplitters 2 some, and just unlocked the last character I was missing. Now I got 'em all. The only things I lack are the Site multiplayer level, and the infinite ammo cheat, and I am going to get both of those from completing story mode on Hard. In Hard story mode I am at Atom Smasher, and man it sure is hard. I am really dreading Robot Factory though. I have 93.8% Completion rate. I doubt I will ever be able to get 100%, and if I do it will be a long time from now, seeing as I have had the game for almost 3 years.[/changetopic]

any foreign tourists up for visiting the florida everglades? :D

Speaking of tourism, where does America's obsession with our monarchy originate from?  This came up from their idea to bring tourism back to London by letting ABC present a program (Good Morning America?) from the Queen's residences.
it likely stems from the fact that it was once our monarchy, and then we were like, "no," and now it's just amusing to us, like, 'oh, those crazy brits.' you know, exotic. such things are illegal here. but i'm pretty sure y'all are way more obsessed with it than we are. go paparazzi.

See, that's the funny thing: we're really not.  For us, Charles and Camilla doing their first overseas visit is a bit of random crap, but (judging from the whole "bring back tourism" news bit on the radio) for you it's actually news.  Quite a few people here don't like the monarchy, and I'd say the majority don't really care about it.  I think that's probably a result of it being exotic for you and normal for us.

Every major event in the British royal family has been ridiculously publicized in the States.  I still remember watching (because I was forced to) Diane's wedding on TV.  It was on all the local news channels in my area.  I mean, I don't care about the royal family, and I don't think I'd care even if I was British, but the US certainly does.

Actually, can anyone enlighten me about why the royal family is still such big stuff?  Aisin Gioro Pu Yi, the last emperor of China got thrown in jail and then later became a small-time gardener and died unmourned.
that's true (@izo) ... i recently switched from abc to the bbc for my news, and i haven't heard a thing about them since the changeover. makes me think you're right. of course, at this point, things get really deep ... because the next logical question is "why is the american media (which supposedly shows us what we want to see) so obsessed with celebrities?" and the answer i was taught in school, at least, has to do with our "american dream" archetype that says the people who are rich and famous got there because they deserve it, and that we can become one of them if we try hard enough.

edit: saber: if i had to guess, taking a jab from a historical perspective, i would say that it's because britain was by far the most successful of the imperialist monarchies (it wasn't humiliated in war like france, germany and japan were), and the british are still proud of the empire they used to have. their figurehead rulers are a huge honking symbol of that pride and what makes them british, as opposed to losers.

How do you get the bbc in Texas, man?

High five for the BBC.  o/\o  Apparently Channel 4 has better news, but I'll stick with old reliable.

Meh, I couldn't really care less about England's monarchy. Doesn't affect me; their affairs are the same as normal people's anyway...just WAY more publicised.
you mean they have sex, too?!

we're more similar ... wait, deja vu too strong, must abort post

nice 1500+ post count you've got there.

At least that post is in a general type topic zone, instead of those "yay 2000 posts!!" from Mangadood. As i always say, its not the posts ya got, but whats in them that counts. I usually have good things to say (very specific about that too...), but tend to stick around areas i can easily post information or my thoughts about.

[Edit]Yippee!! 600posts
