Hi my name is Azor, I don't remember the year but I think it was 2006 when I tried to break the SS attempt of 00:38, I actually got 00:37 recorded but couldn't submit it on time (I blame the Mexican postal service), anyway eventually Hotarubi came and destroyed all of us trying to break the record.

But well that is history, I no longer have the means to speed run, unless I do it on Super Metroid on the Virtual Console, but that's not in my plans right now. What I DO want to do is create a series of videos that teach about speed running and how to do so, along with explanations on why the tricks work and how to do them properly. All this will be done on my stream, I will talk about the tricks, good techniques, discuss multiple ways to reach a certain point and overall give many options for people to improve their game. Of course, the purpose of streaming is to eventually get the VODs and post them as some sort of instructional guide.

Anyway I know everything up to the Hotarubi route, I haven't heard of new tricks or techniques and I'd like the most updated knowledge before I begin recording. So...what has changed?
Thread title:
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
That would be a huge list of stuff.  I know it may sound like I'm fobbing you off, but you'd really best to download Behemoth's 100% run, watch it, then read through the PAL and NTSC speed tricks threads, and then rewatch the run.  There are so many tiny tricks going into the runs now that to casual players each room seems like a speedrun in itself.  Anyway, most notably, save locations are now different (obviously for segmented), and boss quick kills have differed slightly, but the bulk of the differences (time wise) just come from better room navigation.

Could you point me to the NTSC and PAL threads if it isn't too much to ask? I already found behemoth's run (since he doesn't go by that Alias on the SDA record, I searched more than I should have), but I can't seem to find those threads and it is getting harder to find them at work.
Here it goes and good luck!

PAL version any% and 100% speed runs

NTSC Version any% and 100% speedruns
:37 SS has been achieved by most of the racers on SRL. My personal best is a high :36, but I'm probably the worst at any% of the "high-tier" players on SRL. I know I can do :35, but I rarely actually play any% (maybe once a month) so I don't feel too bad about my time.

That said, you can find all of the current knowledge for any% packed into one run here:

If you click through to the youtube page, there's a link to a version of that video with controller inputs.

If you're looking for 100% information, there's good information if you know where to look, but it's very buried. I'd actually recommend joining #supermetroid on irc.speeddemosarchive.com and chatting with us there, but we're mostly a community of racers, so we typically deal with realtime strats.

Thanks for the video, learned some new things watching it. I know :37 is not a high tier time, that was a long time ago and I used the :38 route + a few adjustments of mine. My best SS time after the hotarubi run is something like 00:34, with my best segmented run being :31. I'm not trying to break the record anymore, but I am quite knowledgable of a bunch of the speed tricks, I enjoyed researching a lot and got tons of technical info from Kejardon. Think of this as what Day[9] does, he is a good player but not the best, yet he has some amazing insight on what is going on. I want to do that, talk about the routes, alternatives, reasons behind those decisions and about the mentality of the players.

So anyway back to the topic, another issue I'm having now is that I need some good way of recording my gameplay. My original plan was to do this live on my twitch.tv channel and have the recordings of those sessions available on youtube aswell. I did a test run and it came like this:

http://www.twitch.tv/azormx/b/317395649

Don't mind the run itself, just me having some fun thinking about what to say on each part. Mind the quality, since I run xsplit I'm locked to 25 fps unless I purchase a license, I can't justify a license since my regular channel has 2 viewers at max while I stream Dota 2.

Anyway, any others means of recording myself to go through with this idea of mine?
The quality of the video is very good, but i couldn't hear anything that you said, if you said something... I heard a voice very low, as if you were miles away from the microphone.

I didn't say anything, my mic was somewhere near the computer and my roommate and his guests were talking though.

Here is a sample where I actually tell why Super Metroid and I have a long history together:

I re-watched my test run, seems decent, however I can't help but worry about the torizo room, after his death the frames froze badly.

Random update: I was planning on streaming any% runs for fun, nothing serious but... I use my wii classic controller to play on the PC and sort of just sold it, I wonder how good can I play Super Metroid with an arcade fightstick.
