A concept hack for a metroid 2 styled light/dark world.

The patch is for unheadered ROMS, IIRC.

It was planned already, but Crys has given me some more detailed ideas on how to use it. So you will be seeing at least one area with this idea used.

This application has tremendous potential for puzzles and challenges if used well.  I mean, in some ways, it's not that different from heated runs between energy refills and tanks, but still.  It's very, very cool.

Plan your hack.  Read tutorials.  Use SMILE.  Have patience.  Listen to experienced users, and don't just post any old thing as soon as you've changed a few tiles.

That would be an excellent start.  You should also consider reading through the entirety of the SMILE topic.  I know it's huge, but it's also a massive resource for information.  Last (but not least), you could read through some of the documents over at Metroid Construction.  The 'Ins and Outs' guide, by person701 will be of particular use when you're starting out.  You will be surprised at how quickly you pick things up after reading through all this material.

You just gave me a great idea...
A Super Metroid hack based on Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. My thoughts: the game follows the LttP story arc (Light world,-> Pendants,-> Master Sword,-> Dark World-> next eight dungeouns... we could do this to hilarious results), Crateria is "Hyrule," and it links up to every dungeon, each one based on its respective LttP dungeon (the footage you have here looks loosely based on the Desert Palace).I know nothing about SMILE or hacking (yet), but if there is a way to create new bosses, and new items, we could do it. For example, Samus goes from Crateria to the "Eastern Palace," and battles a newly created boss modeled after the Armos Knights, and so on.

To do a parallel to LttP in its entirety would be a huge project, but with enough people working on it, we could do it.

Anyway, just throwing it out there.
