I noticed in the Super Metroid Impossible thread that there was some support for making a second version of the hack in the same spirit as the first: a series of incredibly difficult challenges cobbled together to form an entire game. Super Glitchtroid, a hack I've been working on, boils down to the same concept, but I've simply run out of ideas. I am now left with a rather short hack (my beta testing run finished it in under 30 in-game minutes) and a lot of very interesting and original ideas for these sorts of challenges.

If I had more ideas, I could quite easily change my current hack into the next SMI. And where better to get ideas than from a dedicated board?

Thus: if you ever had any ideas of some great puzzle or challenge for a Super Metroid hack, PM them to me (for the sake of potential spoilers, please don't post them). I figure we can use this thread to discuss general themes of the hack (how linear should it be, should there be any hacking of the game engine, should the map change, etc).

My SMILE skills are currently not top-notch, but I can do most any level editing, which is probably all we need for most puzzles/challenges. If anyone else would like to be the actual creator of the hack, please just say so. There are definitely some more qualified people on this board, I just already have a "rough draft".

Thoughts?

I encourage your endeavor and hope for the best. Have you changed very much other than the map yet? I'm not sure on the popular opinion on Level Edit hacks, but I imagine at least a couple people may demand enough hardcoding to make it feel like a different game.

I may one day get a bit more into hacks (the only hack I've EVER played is SMR). So far and I haven't had time to check out Super Metroid Mission: Impossible. Next chance I get is scheduled for Uniracers, and after that is finishing Super Metroid again (I still have never really speedran it). That said, I guess I should let somebody else step in and give you some actually useful advice. Sorry, this isn't really my department. If I see somebody, though, I'm gonna send them to you.

Oh man, life is so different once you have one. -_-
Well I was wondering what ever happened to our glitchie  :)

If the situation is how you stated it, this really is a great idea, make the hack a mix of Glitchtroid and Impossible. That gives us the SM:I WITH glitches. Not only introductions, but glitches must be used to proceed in the game. That might bring enough variation for a new game. One challenge more is to be able to pull off all kinds of glitches. (Not the ones that require frame advance or anything like that though)

What is the situation with the map design? Have you made an entirely new map layout or have you just altered the basic map? Also is it "ready" or "still in progress" (I think you know what I mean)?

I do not want to be part of the actual creation, because I dont have the skill to do any stuff with SMILE or anything else, nor I have the time to figure stuff out.
I can give you some ideas, but my mind is not ready for it yet. I hope that others will contribute as well.

If you want to tell more about your own ideas, you can post some of them too. If you dont want to spoil anything for future players, you can just PM me if you want. Things like boss order and other boss stuff, terrain, damage values, what have you. You can of course decide yourself what to tell. I also suggest asking anything that you feel like asking, I am sure you will get good opinions.
