Quote from Kaiser:
In all Metroid titles, there where never a chance to kill a "normal" Metroid without Ice Cream. If you don't have it, use Evasion/shoot them to keep them away from you.

And, if a metroid grabs you, use evasion! It'll stop the damage for as long as you're spinning.

Technically, you can kill metroids with powerbomb (it takes a few of them) and no ice beam.  Definitely not the recommended way and evasion would be much preferred in this case.
Yeah, you can kill Metroids with three powerbombs. Kaiser's statement is also inaccurate in that icebeam is not required to kill the evolved Metroids in Metroid 2, nor the Prime series Metroids.

5:12 I had like somewhere around 60% of items.
Wow this hack has tied with redesign.
did dman got rid of the screw attack and replaced it with evasion?

Yes

damn...

but seriously i miss dman. he was my favorite SM hacker... Sad
What'd you say?
So I can't harm metroids but there is a large room with 2 gray doors and a bunch of metroids... I hate finding where to go in DMan's hacks...
The big room with spikes along the floor and weird floating tunnel things? Yeah, you need
ice beam
for that room. It should be obtainable after getting powerbombs.

Well, that's good to know. Now I just need to find powerbombs.  Brick wall
Okay, I'm not about to spec out the entire sequence for the game. :)

Look back a bit and you should find a post with the item sequence. Find the items you have and you can pick up where you should go next.

Well, I kinda cheated and used the map to find spazer and speed booster. I'm sitting in the room before GT with 91 energy. I think I'm done for tonight.

Use mint chocolate chip for massive damage.

Wow, GT was so easy. Got him stuck against the wall FTW.
Yeah, you could kill him without taking a point of damage, it just took a while.

Wow I can't believe I got this E-tank, that was nuts, absolutely brilliant DMan.

Wow I am so late on this , I waited a long time for this but to my surprise I havn't been on the forums for a couple months.
So I will try this tomorrow. Just need a new rom and Snes9X. I only herd about this briefly on Kriole's channel , To bad I didn't read the title to notice it was Eris At about the 3rd video I noticed that. Im a failure.

My thought on this hack have completely changed, after you are able to not die in 1-2 hits and you are actually finding items, this hack gets good. I still hate suitless underwater segments though.

Even I can't believe you got that E-tank. :D How exactly..?
If that's the etank I'm thinking of then I got it using a super short charge, I think.

If you hold the run button, run forward, jump, land, and continue running forward, your speed still increases.
That's how I got it, no super hard tricks required.  grin new

thats the same thing that happend to me when i first played this and I was like "Whoa holy shit! Thats tight!"
I honestly don't know what to think about this hack. Let me just express my thoughts.
Let me talk about 2 major points:

First, the graphics are superior. I can barely notice any sprites which are from the original game and the quality is also very good. But the mood isn't quite what I expected. It just doesn't really feel good. In the original game and in most hacks everything is fine but this one somewhat disturbs me. I can't really explain why, it just doesn't feel natural at all. The mood just doesn't work for me.

Second, the gameplay. I have to say, after playing for about 2 hours, I really don't want to go on. Playing this hack makes me feel bad. And I guess this is due to three major facts:
First, I don't feel like playing Super Metroid at all. It feels like being Samus in a totally different game were you just don't belong. I mean talk about combat: it just doesn't exist because every enemy is so harmful you just stay away if possible. Basically, the player is really fu**ed. You don't get any chance to do anything. Feels like a rat in a mace with it's feet tied up.
Second, the gameplay is so slow. Watery areas without Gravity never were fun but this hack takes it way beyond that. Seriously, it isn't fun or challenge, it's just boring. Isn't Super Metroid known for it's fast gameplay? So what about just slowing everything down by adding water all around?
Third, there is absolutely no progress. I mean yes, I find new rooms and my map slowly grows, but nothing feels like the right way. After two hours, I feel like I never left my ship. I haven't accomplished anything. So far I found two items (morphing ball and a missile pack) in an area which is as big as original Crateria. So that means either there are no items or I can't find them. Anyway, I'm frustrated. It just isn't fun because you feel like everything you do is not correct. And I usually like exploration-based hacks, but this is a different story I feel. Nothing makes any sense so far. All I can find are deadly enemies, dead ends, areas I can't reach or just anything but something that says "Yeah you have done it! You have found this item now go on playing!", all the game tells me is "Well, you're lost. And you have no chance to get anywhere. Please stop trying".

Having that said, please, tell me any reason for going on playing this hack. So far, the most fitting word to describe it is "frustration".
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It's always nice to get soem contrasting opinions.  Since most people love it, it's a refreshing change, so thanks for your input.  I felt similar to you, but not to the same degree.  I got fed up with the underwater exploration, and was also quickly tired of the enemies killing you in a few hits.  I haven't finished it yet, but I AM determined to do so.  What I find impressive is that DMantra managed to make things look this alien, but hasn't done any tile editing - it's all just palette changes.  (That I've seen...)

A Mannequins Soul
I never found it difficult to progress in terms of collecting items. If you've found morph, the path to getting bombs isn't even hidden. There's no secret entrance or anything. The items I ended up having a hard time finding in the end were all facepalm situations. They were all out in the open. I think one of the reasons I may have been apprehensive to locating items was my lack of energy tanks. Some of those were tricky to find. I'd say Eris a tough start, moderate midway, and easy finish.

Summed up my thoughts almost exactly, just use the map to find your next item. After that hopefully things will be slightly easier for you. I'm still waiting to finish this, I'm stuck ina huge area with a lot of items, just don't give up. Take a break and play a few easier hacks first. Best of luck to you.
I stopped playing this after a few hours, and really wasn't sure why.  I just wasn't having fun I suppose, even though I had gotten pretty far.
