I would've said he didn't get it by kissing the other mods/admins butts...  laugh new

My stickified topic would make necro bumping possible.  If a user wants information on how to do something...  It's main purpose is for users to read through the topic to find what they need.  But bumping (necro or not) will happen, and I hope can be overlooked.

Some topics in the hacks/fan-made forum are forever young. Very Happy

Embarassed  *we now return you to your current topic discussion*  :P
i don't want to rebump this old post but kej...you rock man!!!!

im using this ips and wow its almost like playing prime in a way sort of..

Hey Kejardon, how do you CF in CF?
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
um. I don't remember :O
If I didn't change it, then crystal flash is actually hardcoded to L and R, regardless of what those buttons actually do.

Also I never realized this topic was moved to this board, but in retrospect it should've been obvious.

Okay, turns out you didn't change it.  The reason it didn't work for me before is that I moved the brandish function off R, and I assumed you had to hold that too.  Turns out you have to set the power bomb, release brandish, and then hold the other buttons before it goes off.  (Whatever I had on R was cancelling brandish when I held them together -- X-Ray, I think.)

It's an interesting quirk of the whole brandish thing.  Good thing CF is still possible... I was playing Gravy, and there are two rooms you just plain can't leave without Flashing.

By the way, did you ever look into getting power bombs to work just by brandish+morph, rather than having to select them?

oh like metroid prime right? that would be so cool!!! but its up to kej.

Rolando, you keep saying Prime, but you're thinking of Fusion.  That's the game whose control scheme Control Freak emulates.  Prime's controls are totally different, since it's a 3D game and all.

I dug up my source code and modified it to always powerbomb with Brandish selected. I think. At least it seems to work from what my ~10 minute tests show but I already had to fix a pair of REALLY ABSURD PROGRAMMING CHECKS and I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to include more things that mess up for no good reason.

:fakeedit: Speaking of which I just found one. This one is kinda more excusable than the others though.. and I think it was actually in the original Control Freak too. You all fail at bug-testing :P

Updating original post.

Hah, I just got an idea from Marianne's year-old post:

The whole charging while brandished may actually be a charming way to use Super Missiles. I did rather like how they worked in Prime, with how a super missile was a charged up missile. It'd be like a genius way to remove one ammo type while conserving the existence of the attack.

In case you're unsure of what I'm speaking of: Charge up the power beam in Metroid Prime and shoot the missile = super missile (costs 5 missiles to use). That could even free up a spot on the HUD to be used for other things. :O

Way to go, Kej!  I'll try the new version out.  Funny that we never found the power bomb glitch in your previous version, especially since the essentially identical X-ray glitch was found.

The only other thing on my personal wish list for Control Freak would be the ability to start a spin-jump in midair.  It sounds so trivial, but I've found that after playing Fusion or Redesign for a while, I really miss that ability in regular SM.  Trouble is, that change might cross the line between modifying controls and modifying actual gameplay.  I don't really think it would, but there's certainly a case to be made.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not actually asking for this, just mentioning it as something to consider.  For that matter, I wasn't expecting you to do the power bomb thing right away -- that was awesome.

SirAileron: Interesting idea, but it would only work with Redesign.  In regular Super Metroid, you can fire super missiles with almost no cooldown time -- something nobody would give up on purpose.  It also wouldn't fit in Control Freak, where one of the special features is being able to fire missiles without losing your charge.  (cf. Mega Man Zero, which lets you charge your two equipped weapons independently.)
Being able to restart spinning in air would certainly be a gameplay change. It would, for example, allow you to fight opponents without ever landing, something that is impossible in vanilla SM (unless you count the Screw Attack as "fighting"). Now personally, I'd be fine with that, as well as making the timing on the Space Jump more lax, but there's no question that it'd be a change to the gameplay.

Well, to merit Mega Man Zero (ignore this shameless plug), he had multiple weapons. Samus only has one arm cannon, so it's understandable that she's never able to charge her beam when she's using missiles. It's like a basic hardware limitation.

Also, it's not necessarily a Control Freak idea, moreso than it is an idea for a slight change of pace in any kind of romhack or the like. You can probably agree on the fact that part of what makes Super Metroid so incredibly easy is that everything can be spammed as if Samus had was running entirely on:
crack and adrenaline
It's sexy on one hand, but is also admittedly very, very broken.

Plus... if it opens space for something else to be fit there, it's an even greater resource for anyone wanting to make Samus able to do even more than what most romhacks allow these days, like say, if someome made a new tool/weapon through some unholy amounts of assembly coding. Merely a visionary idea.  teach

I'm not going to do the charge-for-super-missile, nor spinjump in mid-air. Those are more gameplay oriented instead of control oriented. Keeping the charge while firing missiles was entirely a side-effect of the control changes, which I thought was neat so I just left in instead of trying to fix it.

Also the bug with powerbombs is that it would increase the bomb counter even if Samus didn't lay a powerbomb. At 5 you can no longer lay any kinds of bombs. You could make it so you can no longer use any kind of bombs in a room.
Samus is mah waifu!!!
I keep being sent to a black screen everytime I select a file and this is the only patch I used please help
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You're using a headerless ROM, yes?
Samus is mah waifu!!!
If that means no other patching/hacks/mods then yes
No, headered vs unhedeared means something different.  What is the size of the rom?  That will say whether it's headered or not.

The patch is for a headerless JU rom. In other words, exactly 3 mB, or 3072 kB, NOT 3073 kB.
