Eh, there are still ways to give a legit hint to a passage and yet have no one ever find it anyway. (See the Varia suit in GD.)

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
The progress of this hack is going to drastically slow down, as I have to move in with new flatmates and find a new job within the month  :(

I'm about 70% done.

Edit:
This just in:
found myself a great gaff and two awesome mates, rents good, internet up and running. Back onto the progress!

Judging by how things are shaping about -
Crateria // Chozodia (85%)
Brinstar // Brincean (70%)
Wrecked Ship // Eldridge (75%)
Norfair // Keruarn (50%)
Maridia // Calabi Yau (0%)
Tourian // Melkabah (0%)

The progress of Maridia may seem daunting, but maridia is a part of brinstar now, and the maridia map world will be a small place (smaller than tourian possibly).

So I herd you like Xenogears.

No way.. u herd?
Best rpg ever (for a myriad of reasons). Of all the rpgs I grew up on, this one actually did a fair bit of consciousness raising for me. You'll notice Tourians name is Melkabah, a more hebrew way of spelling Merkava.
I barely follow the SM Hacks section, but the look of this hack just caught my eye so I decided to make a constructive post here now.

I'm gonna go straight to you, judging by there videos I'd say this hack has the potential of being the best SM hack ever, and I mean it. The sick tedious (read: utter crap) parts I saw in the first half of first video would make me not want to play it, but I fell in love with the looks of this hack. It has so epic feeling, a purely unique way of using those blocks that you make the hack out of.

I'd probably play it through if it wasn't so hard. I guess I'll wait for a TAS of it.  Rolling Eyes

Wow, I'm flattered by that post, and also kicking myself in the arse for making it so difficult. Like I said previously, there will be two versions.
Making this hack 'majority friendly' will be tough, but I can assure you you'll be able to enjoy this hack without the difficulty when the double-release comes.

Ah, I didn't notice that one for some reason while I was wandering down the list. So will these areas really seem XG-themed ingame or is it just the naming convention?

Also, I have a fear that the "easy" version of your hack will still be too hard  laugh new

Well, I would like to see the TAS of it. Especially the Hard Mode version.

Well, of the two videos top to bottom, the first one is an exceprt from diamorten by bola, as for the second, I have no idea where I got it, ripped it from an old metroid cd I made ages ago, it's a red brinstar remix. The track itself contains most of the super metroid tracks with an electronica edge.
I believe I'll try the hard version.  I know if I force myself to face the challenge - it'll only make me a better player.  I get a subtle sensation of (for someone that is afraid of heights) tingling in my hands and feet just thinking about how dangerous (for Samus) this game will be.  :-k

Off-topic.

A wise choice.

No. I could easily have been, but I ended up getting a bit too experimental.
damn, i loved the song in the second video 8(

Wasn't that some kind of red brinstar remix?

On to the topic.

I very much look forward to SBing, and eventually TASing this game. Keep us updated.

Yes, it was.

The best thing I would like to see is a Full-Item Hard Mode TAS. If there was an exalt/smite system on this forum, I would give 50 exalts to anybody who can pull that off in the fastest time.
I'm not sure if I can do it, but- this hack looks positively phenomenal! I especially love the use of Chozo Statue pieces to make massive sculpture-things. But the difficulty... I'll certainly try it on hard mode, but I probably will not be able to beat it...

A question about the hack itself- are you going to add new music (if you can?). From one of your posts you made it sound like you made a whole CD of remixed SM tracks- it would be awesome to hear those in-game!

Another brief question: for the sequence where the gunship lands, are the sculptures behind it real, or background (in other words- does the ship pass through tiles solid to Samus?)?

Anyways though, it looks amazingly well done.

I won't be adding new music, it's simply out of my ability. I'd love to though, as I make alien sounding music all the time.
This is probably my best album http://digital-mantra.com/cyberianotaku/. Ugh, still shamelessly self promoting..
Back onto topic.

The massive chozodian statue at the very beginning is solid, the ship passes through everything when it lands, you can see it happen in many hacks.

Thanks for the kind words. The hard version keeps getting harder 'cause I keep getting better whilst playtesting. Basically, if I can do something 10 out of 10 times, I'll tweak it so I'll only be able to do it 1/10 times. So the curve to pull off some things is very steep, but it can be done and trying to do it only makes you better.

Well, I hope the Easy mode will give you less of a painful time in No-Varia heat rooms.
I hope easy mode will be less of an obstacle course than the first video shows.

Given that this game will be a multitude of puzzle rooms (see my one room hack for the style I go for just to get to one new place), making an easy version gets more daunting with every new room I create. Honestly, I'm having a hard enough time juggling work and time to finish this hack that I may have to give the ips to someone later who can modify it into a friendlier version.. We'll see.

I'll keep you in mind  :D
Looks more interesting than just the usual re-arrangements of SM rooms. Nice freaky creature statues.

Ahh, the craving to fill a hack with chozodian lore. The beautiful bird like gods that can give one deep thoughts simply by looking at such ancient momuments.

Was reading through the SMILE help thread and saw this... How long ago did you begin thinking about Cliffhanger?

Never really given it much thought. I was fooling around in SMILE and it just started to grow. Though I fondly remember drawing SM maps 10 years ago during class, so in a sense its very interesting for me, moreso than a casual interest.

I've just spent the last 6 hours making the Plasma Keeper, by far the largest Brin yet (Brin being the indigenous species of brinstar using the blue monster tiles). So I hope these statues will spark interest seeing as I'm now developing the hardest hack on the roster as of yet.

Additional: Major setbacks with work and living conditions, I was hoping to have alot more done by now and am having a bit of a dry spell.
