I can't remember much about this, but the only items (that grant abilities) that you pick up and aren't authorized to do, are the Diffusion Beam, and the Seeker Missiles.

There's doors that require Seeker Missiles, so that might be hard to bypass, but the only thing that I can see that requires the Diffusion Beam is the fight against the Metroid Queen where you have to freeze damn near all those Metroids at once.

So the big question of this thread... Are the room doors where you get those 2 items locked until you get them, or can you bypass the item entirely?
Thread title:
I imagine that the door leaving the Seekers room is locked until you pick it up, but in any case theres no way into Sector Zero without them.

In Diffusion Beams room, you have to pick it up in order to fight the enemies in the room which have to be killed to access the terminal. However there is another room; when you first get to the round room near the beginning of the sector, there's a room toward the back with a grapple point and a high ledge. You're intended to take this path when you're following the Deleter to the bioweapons lab. If there's a way to get up there without grapple then you would completely bypass the Diffusion Beam room (and save a good 10-20 minutes at least).
I can confirm that the greenhouse you get the seeker missiles from remains locked until you pick up the upgrade ^_^
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Skipable items in Other M are as likely as skipable items in Fusion.

I brought up these two because they're the only ones you actually pick up.

And Diffusion Beam quite literally has NO plot point usage what so ever. If anything was to be skipped, it'd be that.

The power grip in ZM is effectively useless. Doesn't make it skipable.
The Overlord of All Acorns.
power grip also has one stupid shitty thing that makes it impossible to skip

but it makes a lot of the game much easier.

Just started replaying so my bro could watch and Diffusion Beam, while being a pickup, is still definitely not skipable :/

Ah well, may as well let this die now so when we actually find things skipable, this topic doesn't cloud things.

Out of curiosity, which one?
Doesn't one of the pillars that you need bugs to take out appear in Norfair until you get Power Grip? (In a place where there are no bugs present, and where the pillar is right in the middle of a crucial path.)

Those things that appear in the upper part of Brinstar? So there's one blocking the path to Ridley? Huh, never knew about that.

Yeah, there are some of those on the way to the Varia Suit now that I think about it.

The pillar appears in one of the first rooms beyond the elevator from Brinstar on the path towards the Ice Beam, the lower part of Norfair, and Ridley's Hideout.
There has got to be some way around seekers. You only need it for one thing, to get in (and out) of sector zero. Shinespark the right spot? IDK.

BTW: Apparently creatures can go through doors in this game like they could in the original metroid.
You need it to reach Sector Zero and the Bioweapons Research Lab. I don't think any fancy Shinespark trick will get around the doors themselves or make it possible to avoid those areas, but it might be possible to open the doors without Seeker Missiles.
I thought you get the Seeker Missiles after going into the Bioweapons Research Lab for the first time.

Don't believe so. I thought the door to the Bioweapons Research Lab was a Seeker door, and if not that, there's another one somewhere. I'll have to check.
The first time you go the bioweapons lab, you follow the Deleter into Sector 1, cross the bridge with Space Jump, then go in and immediately trigger a cutscene, which takes you back to sector 1. On the way out of sector 1 you get attacked and fight that one miniboss for the fourth time and it drops Seekers when it dies. Later after you've been to Sector Zero you go back to the Bioweapons Research Lab and there are a couple hallways with Rinkas where you need to use seekers to open the doors.
Don't you need seeker missiles to defeat the queen though?
No. You only need super missiles.
What is the event trigger that makes the glass walls come up at the wave beam acquisition?  Do you really have to go all the way to the unshootable-because-it's-behind-glass target and then backtrack all the way back to where you get wave beam?
I think it's getting the energy tank up there.
Hmm so yeah you do have to go all the way over there then.  That really sucks that you have to go over such a boring area two times back-to-back like that.
Yeah I think it's the energy tank. When you enter the room the door locks until you pick up the tank.

For the Queen, don't you need the seekers? In one of the Queens stages, you have to use the seekers on the crystals on her back.

You only need super missiles...

EDIT: Seeker Missiles unleashes four regular missiles and one super. Only the super does damage.
