Don't see where there was a contradiction, though I probably should have been more clear. I think both Prime and Echoze had better atmosphere than Corruption (with Prime being far above the other two). Though Echoze had better atmosphere than Corruption, it still didn't have much, and what it lacked detracted from the game overall, whereas Corruption's lack of atmosphere didn't bother me.

By atmosphere I mean the general sense of feeling immersed in the game and how much so-called "personality" the game has.

not as good as either of the other Primes [...] but I don't think it detracts much from the game, unlike Echoze's.

Odd contradiction there. (Although maybe you were just shifting gears from blander to not as good and got caught.)

Although, actually, when it comes to Metroid... what exactly are you thinking about when it comes to "atmosphere"? To IBBABAZBABZBABZ, at least. There's standard level atmosphere, and then there's feelings of "alone" or whatever.

I mean like Arkarian said - a personality to the game, which previously was this sense of being alone that sort of pulled you close to the game, if I'm making sense.

And just "Ibby" will do fine. :-)

For some reason although people say you don't get this feeling in MP2, i always feel it at [spoil] torvus bog and the underwater temple thing[/spoil] I blame the music for that but in the bog i feel at peace and stuff, its my kinda atomosphere, the kind i got from landing on tallon IV for the first time. With the underwater area i feel like i'm traped down their and not even U-mos can help me. Torvus bogs BGM actually put me to sleep one time when i feel asleep with the controller in my hand, i woke up 2 seconds later because i forgot were i was and greanclers came after me. laugh new

mp3 is also short on replay value. i have little desire to replay it, while i replayed the other 2 many times.

about the wii controls, we won't get the best controls overnight. most game right now suck at it. few games use them in truly good ways (warioware, mp3, smg, wii sports) but most just use them as last minute add-ons. same thing was happening with the DS in it's first year (sm64DS was hell to play because the touch sucked and digital pad for 3d game sucked too) but then devs saw the light and made games that used the screen in good ways (brain age 1&2, mp hunters since it was one of the few things it did right supposedly)

traditional games that use touch screen/motions and manage to be good usually use them for 1-2 things in the game and don't abuse them (smg and nsmb come to mind. in smg you only use motions to make mario attack. every other move is done in the traditional way. in nsmb you use the touch screen to get your reserved power up but you never use it outside this and when the game switches screens)

You mean... Torvus Bog?

And it's not a spoiler if it's from Echoze. >.<
No. I think he meant... Lower... Torvus Bog. There's a difference you know.  Wink
Yeah, I think it's the music and the fact that you are under water.... (I love the torvus/red brinstar music)

Hi-5 man its the best isn't it? Btw i wanna bring up the subject of that standard "alone in metroid" thing. In mp2 you kinda alone in dark aether, U-mos can't go thier, all the luminoth are destroyed, the ing sure aren't friendly, and the pirates (if not possessed) are dead when you get their. Idk about you guys but i'm feeling pretty alone in that place. aiwebs_016

remember, it's either all-or-nothing so even if you encounter just 1 living non-enemy being in the game, samus isn't alone anymore.

I tend to agree with this, though, on the topic of U-mos. Yes he can't go into the dark world, yes there are dead luminoth/GF troopers everywhere, but between the GF troopers (even though they played a small part) and U-Mos (much more U-mos though)... it did not have that same alone feeling... Even in SM (Which I am filnally playing now...) there is a definite feeling of yes, I'm the only intelligent thing here that isn't evil... there was good here, but it's evaporated now...

That's what I'm talking about as far as some GOOD atmosphere.
OH ****!!!!
In that case what do you make of the etcoons and (going to spell this wrong)diachrias then? They're intelligent and aren't evil at all. I beleive they were the ones who taught you how to use the shinespark or something like that i can't really remember. Still going by what you said you are alone on dakr aether because by what you said, you are the only intelligent thing that isn't evil, good was their but was annialeted by the ing. I say it fits the bill then right? extra_smug

If you know you spelled it wrong, why not just look it up in the dictionary and correct it before hitting "Post"? That's just laziness, and if you don't care enough to put effort into your posts, you shouldn't be posting here at all.

Yes but they don't talk or really communicate in any way  (unless they do at the end of SM--haven't gotten there yet). The whole communication thing with U-mos really goes a long way in killing just about any atmosphere that it may have from the environment. Furthermore, the ettcoons and whatever may be "intelligent" but that does not mean that they are sentient... Dolphins are intelligent, but modern science has not determined that they are sentient.

Put effort into my post? Why? Its the internet the only effort i put here is try and understand all the SBing and SQing talk because i'm trying to understand it but its a bit difficult..i'm to old. laugh new I know i'm just being lazy (i don't even have a dictionary) then again its something i have been doing forever and i feel that you just wanted to start something and pick on me now. But i realize i'm on the verged of being banned so i'll just bow my head down and keep quiet. Theirs my 2 cents, back to metroid matters! extra_smug aiwebs_008

How well do we know the ettcoons to confirm that? Ok i can kinda understand U-mos breaking the "atmosphere" but hes rarely talked to though, doesn't ruin it for me at all but i can see where your coming from.

Well, first off, sentient just means the ability to have and uses your five senses; I think that enigma meant "that does not mean that they are sapient".  Which leads me to wonder if you have played Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion... they're not really that intelligent.  They run around and jump a bunch in SM, and they do tricks like a dog for Adam to get the ship moving...
OH ****!!!!
I've played both but their are other ways of showing your intelligence....ill tell ya when i think of it.  Rolling Eyes

Yeah, exactly my point.  These games have not given us sufficient evidence to believe that these creatures are sapient.
OH ****!!!!
Alright you got me thier, but they do have intelligence.

if they are intelligent, then how did they get stuck in that room in SM's escape?
OH ****!!!!
If you were stuck in a room with monkey hands staring at a door that you have never seen before in your life and you don't know how to open it then i don't think you would open the door etheir. PLus maybe the pirates locked it. Exclamation
1) The Wii may be expensive and out of stock most of the time, but it's worth it.

2) No, not really. Metroid is an adventure game which incorporates not just shooting, but puzzles and other kinds of things.

3) Yes. It is just as good as Prime 1, and better than Prime 2.

4) Generally, it's fantastic. It incorperates the Wii remote into lots of things, from shaking off enemies, to flinging the grapple beam like you would in real life.

Additionally, I would say that since you've played 1 and 2, you should start on Veteran and not Normal. Normal is too easy. Veteran is the ideal difficulty, and it's the difficulty for the other primes as well.

Enjoy the game  Wink
If i get around to picking up a Wii, this would be the first game to grab.
FPS a plus, as i find them more in the moment and more like 'real life'.
No, i sure wouldn't deprive myself of the next MP experience... thinking back to the initial overall interactivity of the other two, some years ago.

don't be misled by the whole "FPS" debacle. the game is as much mp-like gameplay as the first 2 (but with way more voice)

now, if you expect sequence breaking, that's another story...
