So for those who are familiar with 100% routes...

I'm not sure which way I'm supposed to take after exiting Zazabi's Room during sector 2 cleanup (so basically when you just got the PB and missile tank to the right of Zazabi's room, and you're basically done). The TAS climbs the vertical shaft on the right side, whereas the SDA run climbs the shaft on the left side. I'm not sure which one is faster for a human speedrun, since I figured the right shaft is faster for TAS because you can hi-jump off of all of the frozen ki-hunters...

I tried timing it, and the right shaft came out to be faster, but of course I screw up and make mistakes, and there are two fewer door transitions in the right vertical shaft... of course I'm going for in-game time, so....
Thread title:
right side for sure. i timed it several times unassisted and it was consistently four seconds faster. dunno how wassup dawgs missed that when he made his run. then again it was 982382375 years ago.
yeah that makes sense.

also, this doesn't align with sector 2 routing but... for the lava horizontal tunnel at the bottom of sector 3, I'm assuming it is NOT worth charging a shinespark to its right, to shinespark across that tunnel? The TAS doesn't do it, and I don't think I've seen speedrunners do it either.
pretty sure the shinespark is slower. i should test it to find out by exactly how much.
I just thought... maybe after getting Wide Beam, it'd be faster to charge a shinespark to go up that vertical shaft? Maybe? I'll have to try it out :S

You have to bomb out the blocks on the right side of the room and kill the flame jerks. I forget if they stay destroyed...I think they come back.

So the third generator in sector 1, at the very beginning of the game.. there's a missile tank right by it. Is it fastest to get it on the first trip, or during cleanup?

First trip advantages: During cleanup, you can just run straight through the room and get a faster shienspark for the upcoming vertical shaft
First trip disadvantages: You have to wait a while at the door after destroying the X generator, which is time that could be spent just running to the next door.

Cleanup trip advantages: You have gravity suit to just run through the small puddle. You also can spend the waiting time after destroying the generator first trip by running to the door
Cleanup trip disadvantages: You get a slower speed boost during cleanup

IIRC biospark's 100% tas gets it during cleanup, but i'm not sure if it's fastest to get it during cleanup in a console run...
i'm really not sure either. it only saves 90 frames, so it probably doesn't make a difference. i'll try to test it

isn't the speed of those doors opening random?
I have no clue. It doesn't seem like it, but... <_<

I remember somebody posting that the speed the atmosphere clears up at seems to be random, and I believed it because sometimes I get to the door as it's opening, and sometimes it takes another 2 seconds.

Maybe not random per se, but something like being based on the frame of mist animation you unclog the stabilizers on.
it's not really random. it just depends on when you fix the stabilizers (technically, when you dismiss the message that pops up). the doors seem to open in 105 frame intervals. if you dismiss the message within a certain 105 frame window, the door will open on frame x. if you dismiss it within the 105 frames after the first window, the door will open on frame x + 105.

at least that's how i think it works. i certainly could be wrong.
Basically dismiss the message ASAP
well duh. the lag from opening and closing the pause menu will offset the timer though. if you always fix the stabilizer at the same time, you can put in a few pauses. only saves like 40 frames on average though.
So the bottom-left vertical shaft in sector 5... There's a hidden ladder that makes climbing it quite quick by using a bomb/power bomb. It's definitely not worth using a bomb for it, but is it worth planting a power bomb after the first jump, then walljumping up the left ladder? Of course, right after getting the main power bomb upgrade
i do that in the 100% tas, but again it saves less than a second. might not be worth it.

Biospark, for console runs, when is the best time to grab the missile and power bomb tank at the top of sector 5? Is it better to grab it during the nightmare segment, or during endgame cleanup?
pretty sure during the endgame is better. that way you can just shinespark across all those rooms before nightmare. plus you can grab the missile tank behind the bomb block with the screw attack
I suppose. I was thinking, though, if we got it some other time, AND the missile tank behind the bomb block before cleanup, then you can spaceboost all the way across sector 5. However, it doesn't seem to work for me, as after going through the first broken door, Samus seems to automatically stand no matter what...
you have to be going up as you go through the door

Yeah, several doors in the game (I think all the broken ones?) automatically set your y coordinate even to the ground during the transition.
