Will beating time attack mode still unlock pictures for the gallery? I read that it is in fact just a Normal mode that gives you a password at the end, so when you beat it and meet the necessary requirements (less than 15% items for example) will you get another entry for the gallery?

It's the same as normal mode except there is "Time Attack Records" in the options.

EDIT: I have no idea what the password is about.

Make that Japan-only Nintendo Competition thingy where you could win a Samus Aran-colored GBASP (IIRC).

I believe they were to afraid people like *us* would get into the competition if they would've allowed American players to join as well. The Japanese wouldn't have stood a chance :D

No, if I understand him right, the point is not to randomly generate a kick ass time, but to generate the "perfect" time and see if the any% is insanely close or even BEATS "perfect".

If someone wanted to do that to test if it's possible with the current route, I don't think anyone would be against it. Just don't submit it to bisqwit, OR ELSE...!

I might be in the minority, but I think that 28:09 is possible, using savestates of course. looking at the high score list, they got 10 missiles, 3 super missiles, and 2 energy tanks, meaning they likely went the aj/GC04 route. if you remove the 23 or whatever seconds I used in my 29:14 from saving and that time drops significantly. there's at least 20 seconds of mistakes in it as well (not big ones, just stuff like not morph-ing perfectly or missing a jump), and who knows how many tenths of a second could be dropped from just making the perfect jump. I shudder to think of what a perfect cocoon room looks like, or a perfect mother brain fight, or the ability to reload until you absolutely nail the metroid segment. thinking about it that way, I bet 27:xx is possible using savestates. and I never, ever want to see it done. that already tainted super metroid runs.

Indeed.  All a determined quarker needs to do is pick the current best run and follow that route, using the magic* of savestates to eliminate every missed jump, every blocked shot.  With good enough software and lots of patience, GC04's run could probably be brought down to 26:xx, maybe even 25:xx.  Something like that will inevitably surface -- we legitimate runners will just have to keep spreading the word that quarked runs don't demonstrate any real skill.
