I've only just got the game and discovered the credits.

Well, I'm aware that certain events can earn you credits and once you've passed those events, you can't get the credit for said event.

So for a 100% 'perfect' runthrough do you need to not only get 100% scans and items but also events such as the pod shooting at the beginning and rescuing troopers, etc?  Or can you get them by starting another file to gain additional credits?

If so, once everything is bought can you end up getting a surplus of useless credits?
Thread title:
The credits all apply to only one file I believe, however, on completion, you can restart that file, still keeping all the credits and scans that you had before ^_^
What? Sounds very... Space/Time beam!
But that's not very metroidy: 'LOL, I've finished teh game; I'll warp back to the start now, creating a paradox in which I will fight along with an infinite number of samii and pwn DS'
no different from starting from the last save in previous games, just a larger effect.
So if you can go through as many times as you want, surely there's no end to the credits that you can get?  Eurgh.. this is going to get messy like the Kinstone pieces in Minish Cap.  I hated that I had those last few just hanging around.

It'd be great if you could donate them all away to friends instead of just vouchers.

Also, anyone know about the voucher differences between normal and veteran?
Unless... the credits you've got at certain points in the game aren't given to you again when you play through the second time?  So if I rescue a trooper at a certain corridor, I won't get the credit for THAT again, and I think I'm correct in saying that you get more gold credits for bosses on greater difficulties?  So you'd ONLY get more golds if the bosses were more difficult than last time, meaning that there are a finite amount of red, blue and gold credits to get (as there are a finite amount to spend), and only all are obtainable by working through Hyper mode as all galleries can only be unlocked in MP1 & 2 via hard mode?

Friend vouchers would be infinitely achievable as always of course, as they're not tied to your file, but whoever you give them to.

Yes, that would make sense.  Please tell me I'm right!
Based on what the strategy guide I just got today says, it sounds like you are absolutely right. (Had to complete my Metroid series guide collection, you know...  Wink)

I'll put up the complete list of things on the wiki in a few minutes.
Great, cheers.  Any linkage?  I wasn't aware of a wiki...

Maybe you could use it to include the easy-to-miss/optional credits as well as the 1-time scans.

We could really do with those on here for 1 and 2 TBH, just to make the site complete (I'm aware there are 100% scan lists as GameFAQs but it'd be great to have it on what I consider to be  the home of Metroid).
http://www.metroid2002.com/prime3/index.php/Tokens_and_Friend_Vouchers

At the moment I have every single place to get Friend Vouchers, GOLD tokens and the three non-Lore BLUE tokens listed on that page. This is all according to the Prima strategy guide, so I hope it is completely accurate.

According to the guide there's 108 RED Tokens from scanning creatures and 47 BLUE Tokens from scanning the Lore. There's also 47 Research Scans that don't give anything, but I can list them there as well. It'll take some time for me to get all of this up, but it would round out the Bonus Material nicely. Wink

Although, I could've sworn that there are 48 Lore scans, 12 each from Bryyo, Elysia, Space Pirates, and the Galactic Federation. Perhaps the Feds have one less? I can't remember.
Well after looking at the wiki, it's relieving to know there's a structure to the whole thing.  So basically get what I can on Normal and go for a clean sweep on Hyper.  And if I scan everything and get those 3 blue tokens at the beginning, I will definitely get all of them.

Any idea what happens if you have enough friends tokens and someone sends you more?

It's thanks to guys like you and people a GameFAQs that the rest of us gamers know exactly where we stand with unexplained systems like this.  Thanks again. :)
Unfortunately, I think any extra Friend Tokens you receive end up getting wasted. I've tried to not accept any extras and it just asks me the next time I'm in the menu so I don't think we can send them back.

And I just finished compiling the list of Tokens and Friend Vouchers straight from the guide. Anything that says ALWAYS can be easily gotten, LIMITED means there's a good chance you can only get it before or after certain events, and ONCE means a one time scan, obviously.

As for the gold tokens, the books says you get ones for the bosses on Normal and Veteran, but I played Veteran and Hyper as my first two runs and got credit both times. Playing through my low% Normal run I didn't get anything again for defeating the bosses, so I guessed that we get one for a Normal/Veteran defeat and one for a Hyper defeat.
Cheers for all that - the fact you don't get the credits on your 2nd unless missed before or greater difficulty run is great news.

To get rid of friends tokens is easy - vouchers and tokens can't be transferred by copying a file but everything else is.  Or you can just create an extra file using the same Mii to pop them on to.

I wonder what happens to friend credits history of sent and received on a copied file?  And if you delete someone from your list after receiving one... do they show as received tokens?

Ready and willing.
I thought friend credits received were cloned to all files... at least that's what's been happening with my brother and me. Of course, perhaps it's only cloned to files that exist at the time of receipt.
Look, witty text!
You people have problems with being sent extra friend tokens?  I don't get enough :P
I don't have any tokens at the moment, just vouchers.  But I don't want too many/an excess.

I've emailed you to see if you want to swap though. :)
