Yeah, SJ without Hi-Jump is so horrible, and yet makes me laugh. It feels like you have wieghts connected to Samus.
It was actually fun playing something other than 100%...

Mother Brain was REALLY fun with only 5 missiles and 4 supers to work with, and no Screw Attack to kill cheerios, plus HAVING to kill them for more ammo.

After I finished (and got the ending) I jumped on GameFAQs to see which endings I was missing. I knew I was missing Hard 15%, but I didn't realize I still was missing the normal/hard 16-99% between 2 and 4 hours. So after I finished I went back and collected every missile, energy, super missile, and power bomb tank that could be obtained without picking up any other power ups (Speed Booster, Screw Attack, etc.)...Still need to wait 30 more minutes to get the ending  :P
normal 48:14 35%

normal 1:21:43 100%

been playing alot now that time attack can be done

I got a quetion that probably goes somewhere else but I'm too lazy to  find it: What does everyone get as the tenth percent on a 10% hard run? It seems SA would make it easier, but since you need 7 going through Tourian, would another missile tank be better? It would be hard to get three missile refills to sit and wait for you to shoot the zebetites. I'm not sure what's better.
I got 0:48:43 in Time Attack (European version, is there any known difference?)

And for low% hard, wouldn't a super-missile tank beat those two? Otherwise, another missile is what I'd recommend.
i did the regular 9 plus an extra missile pack. It was hard enough that way, screw attack would be waaaay too difficult, if even possible. i thought about getting a super, but refills on supers are hard to come by, and 4 missiles is obviously better than 2, so my guess is that an extra missile pack is the best choice.

I just tried taking out a zebetite with only missiles (I had five). I couldn't do it. I swear I got 7 missiles into it, but it didn't fade away. It seemed I still needed a missile. I know for a fact that it only takes 7 missiles. Maybe I wasn't fast enough. I don't know.
my first attempt at a speed run was 59:35. I am currently working on a hard <15% game. it's hard I don't know if I want to get speed boost.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
If you can bomb jump well skip SB, if not you could try to skip it anyway to make room for another upgrade.
Did my first speed run a while ago..

Normal Mode 31%, 1:11:26

Wasn't that bad for me, but the last two black pirates near the end drove me insane. (I had 4 energy tanks...died about 500000 times during the whole thing, especially during the last bits of stealth, Mother Brain, and those freaking pirates)

You could use the balck pirate AI glitch. It works just fine. And in a speed run, there's no point in skipping speed boost. In fact you might want to pick up hi-jump as well. Then about 4 supers.

...4 supers...

...I think something's seriosuly wrong with my 15% speed run...

...I think I'm missing a percent....

On my 52985th death or so I did the glitch by accident.  I was just jumping up and down and eventually I somehow caused it and I was like "OMG!  I'M DOING IT!".  Ironically, the attempt before that, I beat the pirates normally only to die because i 100% forgot about the pirate that jumps out of the ship. I completed my first, and likely only, 100% Hard run with the lame time of 1:51:31, yesterday now I just have to do Hard 15%... fun, fun. Rolling Eyes
My normal 15% run was harder than my Hard 15% run! Mainly cause on Normal my 6 items were

Long Beam
2 Missiles
Speed Boost
Super Missile
Energy tank

Not the best selection of items. My Hard ones were

1 Missile
2 Energy Tanks
2 Supers
Screw Attack

I learnt well after the problems with MB and MR
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah, I need to ge SA this time, I didn't last time and MB annoyed the hell out if me.
I just got 1:09:26 100% today, but it was on easy......one of my files was not beaten on easy, so I did it for the sake of completion. Now I guess I'll do a 100% normal run.
Time: 1:18:43
Difficulty: Normal
Percentage: 100%

Followed Dragondarch's (sp?) run 99% of the way. Lots & lots of mistakes == ~20 minutes slower :( But still around 9 minutes faster than my previous time.
Normal Any% - 40:10 (30% items collection)

Not bad for my first any%...plenty of places I could have been faster, like the HBJ across the acid in Kraid, and Tourian was rather slow, along with the Mother Ship Escape.
Hmm the acid in Kraid? Is that the room below the first savepoint?
I usually lay bombs on top of the floating squares there. Perhaps that's what you mean :)
Time: 1:15:04
Difficulty: Normal
Percentage: 100%

Same route & same problems. This is getting too easy... :)

Yeah, that's what I did too, just screwed up the dismount from the last block to the ledge and fell in the acid...4 times  Rolling Eyes

Yeah I do that a lot too :) It seems my gba is not very sensitive to button-pressing. It almost never reacts to me pressing up after laying those bombs while I press left... Therefore I usually land in the lava below :(

Unless you do this in a single-segment run, I suggest saving first & then practice it. I never do it more than 4 times & if I continue to fail, I simply reset.
I was just doing it for fun and to see what kind of time I could get. Eventually I'm gonna try for a single-segment any% run for a record, but for now at least I know HOW to do it, even though I can't do it well  Wink

BTW, I play this on my GC with a GC controller...coming out of morph ball isn't hard, but double tapping to get back in it is a flickerbat PITA  Evil or Very Mad
Ouch. You should buy a GBA - to - GC cable. Might help a little anyway.
I have one of those and actually tried it when I first started wall jumping and stuff...the problem is the crosspad is smaller than my thumb and I end up hitting up or down every time I try to switch directions quick. Plus, I've learned how to double tap quick on the analog now, and I don't think I'd do as well with a crosspad now that I'm so used to the analog stick  Rolling Eyes
