Hey folks, I found this one while making a hack of Super Metroid, and then checked in the original to see if it works. It does. Basically, you charge a spark while being eaten by one of those mouths in red brinstar. I don't have the skill to test it to see if it saves any time (maybe sparking up the next room?) but I'd greatly appreciate it if someone with the skills required could let me know if it's faster than known methods.

Possibly could get you through the room faster, but I don't know if it would really save time at all.
Almost happy
Well it can't be used to save time anywhere that I can think of (in the original at least), but it's really cool though
Another reason for someone to update the SM page, even if it's just something miscellaneous.

Perhaps not in the original, but there would no doubt be a hack or two that it may be used to save time in.  It'd have to be a pretty big room, though, as the time you'd spend falling in and charging would have to be made back up.
The only place I find that useful is in the place you actually did, but do it in the first fly trap, so you can quickly shinespark across the whole room. Doubt it would really save time though...

You would have gotten past the whole room by the time you had charged the spark, more or less. So it wouldn't save time (especially considering that it takes 72 frames after you crash with the shinespark before you can move again).

Huh, I assumed you lose the spark if that thing eats you. Neat.

Someone should make a hack that requires this trick in a room or two.  It would be interesting finding speed blocks and thinking, "There's no space for even a short charge, what do I do?", and then you find one of those flower-mouth things nearby to charge the spark.

The only problem with that is that it's only possible by anybody that happens to have read this thread, and I don't think we have a monopoly on all the hack players worldwide.  This means your hack would be in the frustrating list before you started.

If you make it obvious enough that there isn't nearly any room to charge a shine, then maybe they're gonna think up more creative things. I feel this shouldn't be required to beat the game though, just for a couple tanks.
Maybe Saturn put 101% in Impossible and he was waiting for SOMEONE to find this  laugh new

Haha. But no, don't worry, SMI doesn't have more than 100%.  Razz

Nice trick you found though, Cardweaver. Could indeed be a interesting addition to a hack to get a item with this method only. When people will find the speed block they can't break, some might go crazy searching for alternatives and eventually finding it on their own, even though the chance would be pretty low.

hmm this would be great for Crazy aiwebs_008 nice find Cardweaver

Well now it's no good for a superhard hack. I'd put this in Glitchtroid 2 if I'd found it myself, but with this thread in existence it won't be a matter of finding glitches when there's seemingly no solution; it'll just be annoying and derivative.
I felt the need to reveal it because it's something so obscure and random that people may never have found it. You can only run after falling in if you fall a certain way, so if I just put it in a hack, it's fairly safe to say that nobody would've found it.
It looks it it might have potential, you might want to take a look into this more and do some speed tests.
