Quote from Serris:
I thought it was rather well-known that Metroid was partially inspired by Alien and that Ridley's name is a homage to the director.

Obviously I thought that that reference was only made in the English versions of the games (and obviously I was wrong). Of course I knew it was inspired by Alien (hence "Ridley", among other shit).
Zelda twilight princess being a copy of Metroid Prime 2 is an example of copying, Halo 3 and MP3.... pffft

...if you're talking about the Twilight Realm only, learn some history man. Zelda did that back in the SNES era.

You're underestimating human stupidity. And since it's been a while, I'll have to remind everyone... don't do that.
Game Lover
I definitely certain that Halo 3 != Prime 3. Though I must make a comment about the "Generic Shooter"; the game really isn't. I've played 1 and 2 and watched much of 3. I like the storyline in Halo a lot and there are quite a few things that take from the 'generic shooter.'

Now Prime 3, I need to play of that, but I don't have a Wii. D: I was kinda confused by the controls, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I can't wait to find everything out about the story in Prime 3 (in case it hasn't been obvious yet, I love Storyline more than gameplay. :P)
My post had more of a surprised tone to it, I didn't mean to lecture anyone. Also, by directly referencing Alien it doesn't even deny ripping off of it, so it isn't really ripping off of it.
yeah, sorry, still getting used to the fact that sarcasm doesn't show well on forums

Yeah. My friend said that MP3:C came out first, but that doesn't mean that MP3:C didn't copy from Halo 3.

Reverse. Psychology.

Well, there really aren't very many ways to design that sort of armor for troopers like that. Sure, they're similar, but they need to be.

... the 360 was released with wireless controllers (they were optional, yes, but everyone I know with a 360 has them).

Also, please learn to use proper grammar. Your posts are too difficult/painful to read the way they are.

Quote from Beonarri:
No where near the same.  Halo 3 is too generic and mediocre to be a Metroid game.

The only reason the beginning of the game feels a little Halo-ish is because the areas are human designed.

And Sci-fi human-built technology seems to follow some common standard, it looks the same almost everywhere. Except in StarGate because of different cultures reaching advanced levels, but they all end up the same anyway after a while, so whatever.

Quote from Vertigo:
...-Halo's races especially seem like a big rip off of Starcraft.

Quote from Dazuro Ghenari:
Fix that to Starcraft, Alien vs Predator, Halo, and Metroid.  >_>

-Humans inevitably use Marines in the efforts to fight off both alien races

Of course, they all probably got it from Warhammer to begin with.

In short, there is no originality in alien-vs-human sci-fi any more.  It just depends on how you use it--and I'd certainly say Starcraft and Metroid use it the best.

Halo's races are cliché monsters in high-tech armor. I mean, come on, the brutes? They're trolls in plastic armor!
This doesn't mean that I think all of the Metroid creatures are flawless, Ridley's a techno dragon for one.

Quote from Dazuro Ghenari:
Unrelated: I rather liked the last boss, actually.  It was certainly unexpected.  Maybe not quite as epic as it could have been, but the cutscenes were good, and it was fairly dramatic...

I was hoping the secret message was foreshadowing for Super Metroid remake, but that didn't make the fight any less epic (since I'd wasted time/energy on the prior battle.)

Metroid has, since the cradle, bluntly cracked and ripped the shell of off the alien saga. When Retro Studios got hold of it, they certainly added lots of other sci-fi elements to the series, but they never made the games take the step into generic sci-fi, there's still something different. The silly americans are walking the line though.
Halo, on the other hand, has borrowed stuff from all the most popular (and some less popular) sci-fi shows/books/games, giving a great story for anyone who's never or rarely touched upon the world of science fiction, but for those who've seen and read sci-fi for years and years, and played some brilliant FPS:es, it's just a clichéd shooter with too many copy/pasted rooms.

EDIT: The worst way to begin a sentance is by using punctuation, especially en-masse.

We were referring to Halo 3's final boss BTW, at least I think we were...

MP3's final boss was rather disappointing as well though. It wasn't nearly foreshadowed enough (or as ominous) as Metroid Prime and because of this it didn't really bring any finality to the story arc, at least for me. I was expecting something more directly responsible for phazon, or at least some convenient scan that gave Phaaze a reason for existing.
My mistake on the boss thing, but what I said still stands for MP3.

Normally I wouldn't post something off-topic, but
1) the % of posts that are actually on-topic in this thread is small
2) i voted so that's sorta on-topic
3) at the time i voted, the poll was 100% for "No: MP3 is not a copy of Halo3" meaning: it probably is a question not worth asking; meaning:
4) it was as good a time as any to comment on the birds in arkarian's sig ;)

None of your points are valid. Anything not related to a particular thread on the forum goes in the social topic, period.

Anyway, this topic deserves a good old-fashioned Alizée lock.
