Ok, MINOR ITEM SPOILER if anyone really cares......

The plasma beam, when charged, looks like a.......well, sun sort of making solar flares.
The NOVA beam should have that animation, considering that it's a NOVA beam. The plasma beam should have had its original charge, and it should be green, because the plasma from METROID FUSION is green, RIGHT? And the NOVA beam........well, it should be multicolored, and make a mini-mini-atomic explosion when charged and shot. But that could cause seizures. Oh well, I guess that's my opinion. Oh, and super freeze missiles.

well, retro didn't stick with the classic beams' properties for all instances. plasma's color is a minor issue considering how much was different with the other beams.

i really missed the powerful feel of mp1's plasma beam. the one in mp3 feels weak in comparison.

Well, of course it feels weak- it's not number 1 anymore, it's just a satisfier until mister nova comes.
Also, plasma is usually either blue, red, or green......and I think that it really was weak.
AND, I think that they shoud've done the burn-into-ashes-very-very-fast thing, when the plasma/nova beams are charged.

I like that Nova was last, but I definitely feel it should have been way cooler. To me it felt like just a recolor of the Plasma, with nothing particularly fun about using it.

Yeah, and the rapid burning to ashes function back in the 1+2 days rocked!

I don't know why, but I loved the nova beam. Maybe it's the fact that the charge shot travels four times as fast, maybe because it can kill pirates inone well-aimed hit, and maybe just cause it looks really freaking cool, with particle effects everywhere.
To each his own, though.

Also, it does burn to ashes, at least with some enemies (the bots in Skytown come to mind).

the extra effects were actually good.

the problem is the beam in regular use.
I had no real problem with the beams- I thought the nova beam was stunning. The noise it makes, and and the charge shot, and the way it spirals were awesome. And as for plasma- I suppose it's alright that it wasn't as powerful as it was in Metroid Prime, due to it not being the last beam and the fact that in Metroid Prime it was, I thought, far too powerful- where was the fun in fighting a sheegoth when it could be killed in one shot? Perhaps Prime 3 could've used one extra beam to liven it up a little, but I never found the beam system to be an issue, and found the beams themselves to be just as good, if not better, than other games in the Prime series. (Except of course, the wave beam- oh, the wave beam... aiwebs_016)

well, you could have a beam that deals fair damage but still sounds and feels powerful. the mp3 beams feel weak even when they land a 1-hit kill.

I'm telling you, it's because they don't burn into ash like they used to!
That's the ONLY reason I played it, was because I loved burning up the Sheegoths!
It wrocked! yes, I put that w in there on purpose....>_>
Don't know WHY.....

Anyway, that's probably what gave it the SUPERIOR feeling.
Plus, it did that wicked spiral INFERNO thing when fully charged.
w00t for teh PLASMA.....'xcept for the one in Prime 3.

Well not only did the plasma beam give the superior feeling when incinerating enemies in one shot it also did like 4x damage to most creatures (4x normal beam) and absolutely obliterated certain creatures (most ice based ones).

Metroid Prime had a different style though. There were normal creatures, ice creatures, and lava creatures. In corruption there is only one type or well none of them are more vulnerable to a specific beam.

In corruption I think the damage is something like(per hit):
Regular - 1.0
Plasma - 1.5
Nova - 2.0
Hyperbeam - 4.0 (not sure if it is effected by weapon upgrades)
Missles - 5.0? (freaking useless imo)
Hypermissle - 10.0

It is pretty hard to tell though since you can't really use the older beams with the stupid stacking beam system.
OH ****!!!!

LOL That really took the fun out of it, of course now hypermode seems to be doing that now. I agree that the plasma shouldn't have had that charge affect. Maybe have the one used in Metroid prime, then have the whole nove blast thing we have going on with the charged plasma shot in MP:3. But you have to admit the charged nova beam looked insanely cool, and you can't beat incinerating enemys with green flames licking their diterating corpse. extra_smug

Why all the randomly capitalized words and ellipses, then?

i think you didn't get what i was saying.

the plasma in mp1 felt more powerful when you shoot it. it doesn't matter if you are killing anything or not. the beam itself had the right sound effects and graphical effects to make it look strong, like anything in sight would be pushed back by its force.
the mp3 plasma feels like i'm shooting a paintball gun.
OH ****!!!!
I think because its fire rate is as fast as the power beam.
Is it just me, or does the charged plasma beam (in Corruption) make a noise that should be associated with the ice missles? It's like a cracking noise.

And I believe that the first plasma beam (in MP1) was far overpowered, and the Nova Beam is far underpowered. My favorite of all time is the Annihalator(sic), due to the Sonic Boom charge shot thing.
OH ****!!!!
It makes something that would be (IMO) more associated with the annialator beam.
i'm with Mr. Shadow on this one. I really don't think there was any problem with the nova beam or either of the plasma beams- I get more of a feeling of superiority with Prime 3's beams, particularly due to the fast-moving nova charge shot and hypermode, than I did with Prime's plasma beam. Maybe there's a touch of the 'rose tinted glasses' syndrome going on here- which I find is very often the case with games I've played. I think all beams are well suited to their niches in their respective games. Except, of course, again, the wave beam, which I'm not sure why I like so much. Perhaps the obscene pink lighting; the ridiculous brilliance; the brilliant ridiculousness. Still, it deserves to have a Prime game all to itself.

for the record, i played mp2 before mp1 and i played mp1 in 2006 and i still like the plasma from mp1 more. i doubt nostalgia or anything is in effect.
the hyper beam is stronger than the plasma but the problem is how you can abuse it and make it the solution to kill every enemy.
btw, the nova still felt weak.
