Ok, version 1.1 is finished. I fixed the LN part of the game, and also fixed the early brinstar getting stuck issue. And, yes Phoenix, you really have to. Oh, and to avoid frustration, I recommend that all players savestate often. Especially in Maridia and LN.

Ok. Fake Kraid. HOW DO YOU DEFEAT HIM?!!! he is nearly invincible...

I prefer to think of him as Mini-Kraid, and as you said, he is nearly invincible. I advise having 10 supers when you enter that room as well as a healthy supply of regular missles. In fact, as a good rule of thumb, try to carry maximum (or at least 10) supers whenever possible.
Do you need Speed Boost? I have 5 supers and 40 missiles.

With just the bombs, and spore spawn supers, another 5 supers become available in brinstar.
The old mockball room still has accessible supers, they're just hidden

And other than that, 5 supers and 40 missles should be plenty, jsut be prepared for a lot of spike dodging. Personally though, I'd definitely go back for the supers.

Just in case you're wondering why hes so hard...
If you have the maximum arsenal without sequence breaks, he takes all possible supers and missles, plus a couple of normal shots. Also, I didn't trust myself editing Kraids room, so I made the mini version like a boss.
Yeah, uh, like usual, I missed something that EVERYONE else got.  Everything is blocked off by PB blocks, and all I have is supers and stuff.  Can't find a new path anywhere (judging from the spoilers above i'm guessing its Kraid) so i'm done for now.  Later.
Golfcheater: You dont need power bombs to proceed to Green Brinstar, look for additional routes.

(Or to be more specific: tunnels in that room with PB block bridge)

This was a nice hack, lots of fresh ideas and surprises. Items are hidden well, so despite the fact that I found many hidden ones, I still missed 26 items. I am not sure if people are ready for another x-ray search, I know I am not.
Maybe I will commence search for rest of the items, but that is not on top of my mind just yet. (Missed 4 e-tanks, 2 reserve tanks, 60 missiles, 20 supers and 15 PBs and of course, the x-ray.)

Anyway, great job Cardweaver, I will definitely recommend this hack to others.

EDIT: LOL, I take it all back about not searching items, I got some more and I also got the x-ray already  :D
Nice! I am not gonna spoil it of course, people will have a blast figuring that out.

Mini-Kraid is one hard little turd!  aiwebs_006

'Guess I'll need another SM pack.  I may have missed that one in the mockball/gate room.  I can't remember.

Thanks for the feedback Lance! If you found the X-ray, the rest of the items should be easy. I'm glad you thought it was a good hack, it only took me about a month, so if someone is willing to teach me the finer points of SMILE, such as editing doors, safely adding/subtracting PLMs/enemies, and safely expanding rooms, I'll definitely make another, this time fully designed.

Actually, you finished much faster than I thought someone would for such a high first % as 74. I expected more along the lines of 50% for that time. Excellent job.

If you think mini kraid is hard, wait until that one weird orange crawler in the wrecked ship. Fortunately, there were no PLMs in that room to change to a grey door, so he's optional. I advise running from the crawler. And if you plan on using grapple to (try to) kill him, save state first.

And like I said before, the supers help, but aren't necessary if you're really really really patient/skilled at dodging spikes.
Now only missing one missile tank and that is it. Very nice job hiding some or those, I especially liked the crateria super missile and Lower Norfair PB (the hidden one, which I already found first time around). We seem to think a lot alike about those hiding places and methods  :)

do you have same amount of items in all the rooms as the original SM ? (pointing out especially WS upper outdoor area)

lol. i think I know which missle you're missing, especially if its
one of the wrecked ship lake ones
Its another one of my favorites.

To answer your question....
yes. everytime i tried to add or suntract PLMs, the room wouldnt work, so i left the same number in each room. and that lake room is all one room, with 3 total missle tanks in it. use your X-ray scope.
Oh yeah, found the last one too. I scoped that room pretty thoroughly, but that spot I had missed for some reason. Once again, one different way to hide an item, very clever.

I would name this something like SM: Itemhunter or something, but we already have SFI so let´s just stick to Gravy here  :)
If you still plan to update further, I have a few minor suggestions, but I will say those only if it is necessary to change anything bigger, they are not worth making a new version, nor do they have any bigger affect the gameplay.

My overview on the bosses (without spoiling anything specific):

Torizo:
More missiles, more hits. Quite nice.

Spore Spawn:
Finally something different, but it was not as fun as SMI or some other fights, but at least it had some difficulty.

Kraid:
Well, Mini-Kraid stole the show here....

Crocomire:
New look and feel in the environment was good, but the fight was same as ever

Phantoon:
Different than usually, very interesting way to make the battle harder.

Botwoon:
Well, too easy if you have enough firepower.

Draygon:
As I said, one of the fastest kills I have performed and even the grapple-kill is possible if someone still uses it.

Golden Torizo:
Normal battle, nothing more to say.

Ridley:
Again, more difficulty with various changes. I liked it because you might have to change your strategy during the fight and "easy kill" is not so easy anymore.

Mother Brain:
Same as original. Escape had a nice gimmick.

Well, Electrometer said that in order for it to be considered, it needed a name. Gravy kinda popped into my head... (turkey for dinner..)

I actually tried to make the bomb torizo an underwater boss, but red fx means no fx...

I didn't want to copy off of anybody for sporespawn, so I went with treadmills.

I thought Kraid's room couldn't be edited, and I didn't see Kraid anywhere in his room to edit, so he kinda stayed the same. Mini Kraid will have to suffice.

Crocomire I liked. Environment means same strategy, but different timing. Although now it is weird that he dies after the bridge....

Phantoon's room actually had first a thin coat of acid, then lava after acid was too hard, but lava ended up making the room look weird (as well as making phantoon a bit too hard for the average player) Side note: while testing Phantoon I first learned that pseudo srew attack protects you from the fireballs... lol

Botwoon was made optional, but I agree here, I could've done more.

Draygon..... ah Draygon. How would I edit him? hes not on the screen. Originally, that room was acid, but that was too much pain. I considered adding spikes to the floor, but when I did, the room kept glitching on me, so I just left it.

Golden Torizo has been made stronger, you probably just didn't notice. Charge and supers only do half normal damage and he has a bit less health to compensate. I also though about covering that floor with acid (I'm a big fan of acid).

I'm glad that the tiny change I made to Ridleys room made such a difference.
other than the metroid of course.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't beat my own ridley without crystal flashing under the bridge mid fight. Well, I wasn't using savestates, but still. I always considered either Ridley or Phantoon the hardest bosses (or mini kraid... laugh new), but after Impossible I'd say Draygon...

Mother Brain I didn't touch. too much could've gone wrong, and I didn't have any back-ups left. The escape rooms were fickle too... One room wouldn't let me change, said I had used 1000 of the possible -180000 memory... (yes, a negative) so I just sighed and moved on.

I'd be interested in hearing your suggestions regardless of whether or not I use them. Criticism is good for future projects. Also, is it safe to assume you missed
the missle in the speed booster blocks?

Btw, did you save the animals? IMO, that should've counted as a % in the original.

edit: Now we just need to get Saturn, Tonksi, Cpadolf, and Kriole (and others I'm forgetting) to do Speedruns/Low%/TASes. as far as NBMB goes, I think the only ones skippable are Draygon and Botwoon, Crocomire maybe, Kraid maybe with pause abuse, though I guess If your amazing you could skip Phantoon, (not sure about LN survival there)

I will look up those parts I had something to say and post them here sometime, just not in a while.
Yes the last missiles I got were exactly the ones you referred.
Yes I did save the animals, it was painful to get out of there but luckily there was more than enough time.
Well, for the bosses I thought some spikes for Draygon or Botwoon had been good, but you already explained why they were not altered.

Unless you are an expert mockballer, you can forget getting much of anywhere. Its almost like I am not even supposed to try to do it.

And dont tell me its because I dont know what Im doing. I can never for the life of me seem to remember what buttons to let go of once you are morphed

I actually sympathize with you here. It took me months to learn how to mockball effectively. Which mockball are you stuck on? I personally can't do it unless theres a ceiling to hit, but all the required mockball points have a ceiling. The places that require speedball are shortcuts except for one of them. I'm sorry that you're having trouble.

Dash, jump, hit ceiling and let go of jump button, hit down, right before hitting the ground hit down again and hold the direction you're going in and the dash button.

There's probably a more effective way, but thats the way I do it.

If you tell me exactly where you are and your inventory, I'll make a savestate for you of just after the required mockball and post it. Then all you'd have to do is rename the savestate to match the Rom you're using and load it into snesx.
Metroid Exp: Exploration - Great, Skills - Decent
The mockball area just before Crocomire with the following items

Of Course, Morph Ball and Bombs
65 Missles
10 Supers
5 Power Bombs
Speed Booster
Hi Jump
Varia
Charge Beam

It was hell trying to get back to Green Brinstar. The vertical shaft was only the beginning, cause normally I suck at stopping a spin in mid air and sparking right or left

Edit: Oh BTW nice touch on Ice Beam path.
You know, I just thought of something. I have no idea which items you've got, so how about you attach a savestate of yours just before the room. I'll go through the room and then savestate and attach the new one. Or it would be even better if someone would tell me how to attach something to a pm...
I say dont start toying with helpsavestates here, if you dont know how to mockball, it would be better to get used to it. This hack is harder than the original game in many places, you are bound to bump into something even harder. You have save states, they should help. If that is not enough, use slowdown.

When I mockball, I just keep pressing the jump as long as possible and then either quickly tap down twice or, better yet, press once at first and only the second one near the ground, makes it a lot easier to press down just once near the ground than twice. The direction can be pressed all the time as well. Holding dash is not required after you have made the jump. Holding jump is not required when you have made the mockball, only direction.

I already have. The name is Mini-Kraid, as I didnt have enough Supers the first time I tried to face him, and had to essentially start all over again (didnt grab the supers from the old mockball room).
I slightly agree with Lance here. The speedball is required once, and if you cant do a mockball, a speedball is probably impossible. Although that leaves the question.... How did you get the Mockball supers?

Ive had my lucky breaks, but the problem there is Im usually too focused on the action to see the button presses light up at the bottom of the screen. It will take some practice, but I hope I can start doing it regularly

Button presses light up? What?

Anyway, best of luck. The room in norfair connecting the elevator room and the bubble rooms with the speedbooster blocks is an excellent place to practice both mockball and speedball. Actually, that room in Gravy requires the speedball...

I have "Show Pressed Keys" option on in Snes9x 1.43. Hit the Comma key on your keyboard to show them.
