so, I just got the game earlier today, and i'm curious what your feelings are so far today (without spoiling anything, please). Just the "I like it" or "the controls are awsome/suck" or "I like/hate the feel of the game" sort of comments.

I know some people may not have gotten the game yet and may want to know if they should get it without being spoiled.
Thread title:
As I said in the other early impressions topic:

So far I'm enjoying this game A LOT. But I can tell right now that there's most likely no way it can surpass the magic of Metroid Prime. But it's already left Echoes in the dust in my opinion. Wink (But I still like all three of them, don't get me wrong.)

And they said they were trying to make it easier this time around... NOT! Although, I am playing Veteran, so who knows if that's true or not on Normal. I would suggest playing Veteran for anybody who hasn't started yet and wants a real challenge from the game.

To add to that, the advanced control setup is the way to go and didn't take me any time in getting used to it. (Although I tend to accidently use Hyper Mode when I'm trying to get to the map/menu sometimes.) The game picks up the Metroid feeling a few hours into it, so don't be put off by early gameplay, which I still found fun anyway. And they were right with the graphics: This game LOOKS incredible,  and each location has a unique look. Retro has outdone themselves in terms of detail.

All that can be simplified down to this: If you're a fan of Metroid and have a Wii, get this game ASAP. You won't be dissapointed if you're anything like me.
Firstly, the game is so pretty.  Visually amazing.  Control took me a bit of getting used to, and I find myself listing to the side a bit after any scene where I don't have to actively target, but that's really no big deal.  Speaking of control, when you do get it, switch over to advanced.  I'm still deciding if I want to turn on the option that holds a target lock or not, as it seems strange to have a lock on something and be totally missing it when firing while moving around.  Prime summed it up best - if you have a wii and are a metroid fan, you must have this game.  It's still a bit early for me to decide where it stands compared to MP1, but I feel it's already blown MP2 out of the water.
far more cinematic, which can be good or bad depending on who you talk to. Being a metroid game you don't want the experience interupted TOO much, but for the most part it's a good addition. it gives you more story, and adds to certain boss moments. I'm REALLY liking this Prime game, prolly the most out of the prime games, but we'll see.
I've read an earlier (p)review(?) which stated that Prime 3 is terribly linear. Is this true? Would be pretty disappointing imo.
I am about 5-6 hrs in about to finish the first planet. Something drastically different from MP1, somewhat like MP2 and very much like Metroid Fusion -- you are constantly in contact with someone (well, it's a computer, but it's still another entity). You definitely do not feel alone or abandoned. Also the game structure is more like Metroid Fusion -- compartmentalized, segmented and piecemeal.  You do task A, get new orders for task B, go do task B, etc. There are multiple planets/areas. Each planet has different "landing sites" you access from a hub, which further segments the game. In Super Metroid and Prime 1, the feel was a lot more open. The Prime series has gotten progressively more "locked-down" and compartmentalized, and this is the culmination of that trend. It does look like once you're done with the planet and gotten all its powerups, you may be able to traverse among the individual sections (much like in Fusion as well). At first though, you are forced to take a particular route, so it is still quite linear.

Along the way, I have passed doors I couldn't open, but I could probably count them on my hand. I don't think I will be doing much end-game backtracking (but obiously I'm not there yet).

This isn't a bad game, it is fun to play, but I think it is a rather poor Metroid game (so far). I still prefer the first two over this one.

Misc things I don't like:
1. Infinite enemy spawn rooms...!!!!
2. Apparently Samus forgets that she can rip off a shield from a space pirate, and has to scan each one to remember. This actually seems more like a bug, and an extremely annoying one.
3. Grapple mechanics in general seem gimmicky. So does hyper mode itself. So do the ship commands.
4. Ledge grab seems gimmicky and doesn't even work very well. Poor detection or something.
5. Whereas load times seemed to be the exception in MP1 and 2, in 3 they are the rule. Nearly any room of a large size takes time to load, some a very ridiculous amount.
yeah it is different for sure, but I was happy that they let you go to different planets and landing sites so you aren't stuck in ONE location.

still, we might have hoped for something different, I still feel that in the heart of the levels though it preforms like Prime, and I'd still recommend picking it up, it's a lot of fun, and if you're a fan it's a really good game to have.
I so far have liked this game much more than the other two It's not really too linear in my opinion. I'd say it's just as open as prime so far because prime was rather linear, It felt open but in all truth it's linear as are most games.
This game is really making me say: "Wow!" or "Whoa..." or "HOLY CRAP KILL IT WITH FIRE D:!!!"

...

Okay, so I can't say D:, but it's probably on my face while I unload my unholy slavo of kickass on one single enemy...

Quite frankly, this game is much more better then Prime, and it's living up to my expectations of Super Metroid. It's worth picking this game. More then worth, and I'm not even 1/4th done with the game.

just got screw attack, bryyo is beautiful when you see the other parts of it
yeah, to be honest I haven't really been a huge prime fan until now. Sure they take some liberties here and there, but it's fun, and it feels metroidy enough.

I love high octane moments like holding the spire etc. The seed bosses have been pretty decent as long as you are playing on hard. I mean they beat a lot of the zelda TP bosses for sure.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.

Er...  no, she doesn't forget.  Just because the Grapple icon doesn't appear doesn't mean you can't latch on.
I've played a bit, about 1/3rd through the first planet (edit: I mean the second planet). Well, it's a good game, but I think they should have scrapped the whole first planet and that stupid ship. Those are exactly like your basic FPS. Luckily, when you get to Bryyo (when the game really starts) the game seems to eventually remember that it was supposed to be a Metroid game. I still haven't fully gotten used to the controls, and also the missle button is in a very awkward place (d-pad down). Don't get me wrong, despite all this I'm very much liking the game and would definitely recommend it for those who have a Wii. We'll see how locked-up it really is, hopefully not too much.
yeah, I thought I had it down pretty good, but things do get complex when you are trying to dodge and then alternate between firing missles, and using hyper mode on bosses, to the point that it's kind of a pain in the ass, but I blame that on my lack of coordination.

so yeah, missle is in a bad place, minor issue, trying to do missles and hyper at the same time, even more annoying, other than that, pretty peachy.
