It's from the latest issue of Nintendo Power.

There are seven multiplayer modes:

  • Battle - Basic multiplayer mode.  Time limit, kill limit or both.
  • Survival - Everyone starts with a set amount of lives.  Last one standing wins.
  • Bounty - You have to find the Octolith and return it your base.  You get a point each time you do this.  Person with most points at the end wins.
  • Defender - King of the Hill-type mode.
  • Prime Hunter - One person istarts as the Prime Hunter. If someone kills Prime Hunter, they become Prime Hunter. The person that's the Prime Hunter the longest wins.
  • Capture - Capture the Flag-type mode.  The "flag" is the Octolith.
  • Nodes - Take control of small beacons. Protect as many beacons as long as you can to win.

Multiplayer is 4-player for both LAN and NWC.  In LAN, you can play with bots.  You can customize many things such as weapon selection and radar visibility.  You can also toggle friendly fire on and off.

All players, no matter what character, will have Samus normal beam gun and missiles until upgrades are found.  Each Bounty Hunter has exclusive weapons.

There is single cart multiplayer.  However, everything must be Samus and the only multiplayer mode available is Battle.

On NWC, all multiplayer modes are available.

  • Hey now... that's just not fair. Laughing (But, I guess I DO have a bit of an advantage on that one, don't I? Wink) I'll just have to watch my back a bit more than normal when I play that mode.

Anyway, at least there seems to be a good amount of things to do with the multiplayer aspect of Hunters. Looking forward to playing against you guys in a few months. (Here's to hoping that the singleplayer game is as good as ever.)

Exactly what I don't want to play in a Metroid game, but good info nonetheless.

Neither do I for the most part. I've always thought Metroid is meant for singleplayer modes only, but since that's not the case anymore I might as well try to enjoy the mulitplayer if I can, right?

Even if the mulitplayer bombs, the Metroid games have always been about having a quality singleplayer experience in my mind. (They're SUPPOSED to be, but some of the series doesn't follow this standard as we know very well.)

I've almost always been a singleplayer kind of gamer anyway, unless the game is specifically meant for multiplayer. I just seem to enjoy singleplayer a lot more than multiplayer for some reason.

Frankly, I don't see the point in having a Metroid game based around the multiplayer, since it goes against what the series is all about - exploration. While I guess you can technically "explore" in multiplayer, it's not the same thing.
    lol no way
No, it's certainly not about exploration at all, but then, Mario Kart was completely different from the Mario series, and it still worked out. Just depends on how well they do it.
    everybody knows it's true

    Mister ...
I'm sorry, but after all of the great metroids, and their awesome single player adventures, a multiplayer Metroid seems... odd.  Though I did play Prime 2 Multiplayer, that was fun,,, I came in second on my very first Prime Experience! Go me!

Anyone know where I can get the Prime Hunters Demo for now since the actuall game won't come out til March or something? I got my DS USed, $30 cheaper!
I love the big ass guns. http://www.jeux-france.com/images5_4_14195.html

You were ... expecting them to be? This game isn't on the GameCube, son.

I don't see how multiplayer is worse idea than pinball.

I have a feeling that Ark doesn't dig the pinball deal, either.

I love Metroid Prime Pinball. Have no problem with that, as it's basically just pinball, only with the Metroid name tagged on. Hunters is actually calling itself a legitimate Metroid game, while Pinball isn't posing as anything but pinball.

yes but doesn't the DS have similar or if not same compacity as the game cube stuff? Please correct me if i am wrong.
I might as well add info on the characters.  Each character's Morph Ball Mode has a special power
    • Samus: You know how is looks like. She can lay bombs. Nothing new here.
    • Noxus: He transforms into a rapidly top that knocks foes away.
    • Spire: He becomes a spiked boulder that knocks enemies over.
    • Sylux: He turns into a ball similar to Samus' Morph Ball and he can deploy blades that travel along beams of energies to kill his foes.
    • Kanden: He morphs into an insect whose tail can home in on enemies and explode!
    • Trace: He transforms into a three-legged mechanism that can lunge at opponents.  He can also turn almost completely invisible.
    • Weavel: His upper and lower body seperate, the latter becoming a stationary turret.

    Interesting, don't you think?

    Looks real Halo-esque.

Battle - Basic multiplayer mode. Time limit, kill limit or both.
Survival - Everyone starts with a set amount of lives. Last one standing wins.

    =Slayer.

Bounty - You have to find the Octolith and return it your base. You get a point each time you do this. Person with most points at the end wins.
Capture - Capture the Flag-type mode. The "flag" is the Octolith.

    =Capture the Flag

Defender - King of the Hill-type mode.

    =King of the Hill

Prime Hunter - One person istarts as the Prime Hunter. If someone kills Prime Hunter, they become Prime Hunter. The person that's the Prime Hunter the longest wins.

    =Juggernaut

Nodes - Take control of small beacons. Protect as many beacons as long as you can to win.

    =Oddball.

Not to say that that would be a bad thing, but still... dont you think they're overdoing it a bit?

Those modes aren't just Halo, they're common to the whole FPS deathmatch genre.

    good point.

I hope capture the flag is good on MPH, considering that its my favourite mode in all FPS games. :P
    lol no way
IGN has some new screens, which I assume are of multiplayer. They all have a 'Kills: _ / 5' thing on them, so unless it's like... some sort of mini-mission thing like Mario Kart DS had, they're of multiplayer.
