plasma beam v.2.0
ok, im working on a hack.  its my first but it looks very promising.  i need a little help for building it, but i have the basic idea down.  it uses the normal map, but most items are moved and some are even right on top of each other but you would never know.  if i could get someone to help me build, this could be done within the week.
Thread title:
Every Bit Counts
I guess I could help with pointers and such. but you really can't create a good hack in a week. Look at the other boss rush hacks. they were probably made in a day or two. mine however, has been in production for over 2 weeks, and IMO it's better than the others. and its not just because I'm making it. It's mainly because I'm makeing so you can backtrack, or go back to the ship anytime (well, mostly anytime). I've spent hours trying to come up with a good design. sorry for the rant about my hack. I suck at level design (just like route creatiation), but I can help out with pointers.

Congrats. What help do you need? FAQs, the help thread, and lots of experience will be your best tools.

Mmkay, two personal vendettas (vendettae?): first, map changing isn't that hard, and it makes the hack FAR more interesting and unique. There are literally dozens of hacks with the same map and about seven with unique ones. It's really not too hard and makes a huge difference. Second, hacking takes time; a LOT of time. It is literally impossible to finish a good hack within a week, especially if it's your first. Super Glitchtroid, in all its shortness, took me a month and a half. Golden Dawn took the experienced Black Telomeres seven solid months. Redesign took years. My full hack, which is maybe 1/4 finished, has taken me 4 months on and off. I would love to see another hacker here, but it's just not going to happen that quickly.
I agree. Hacks taht get finished in less than a week usually turn out shitty, unless you have been working 24/7 or it is a mini hack

it was mostly the idea that the map is the same with a fey added tiles to make jumps easier.  but the chalenge is in finding some items.  i want to make it really hard to find items and kill bosses.  which isnt working because none of my items will apear.  i think instead, we can break it up into areas and get a few people to bounce ideas off of.  that way, each area is unique in its own right, and everyone gets credit for the new hack.

yeah, its kinda hard to figure some things out when your first attempt turns it into a full file at 5 times max memory.

see above...
You shouldn't even attempt to finish a hack in a week, even if it is as you say. Especially if this is your first hack. I would recommend at least practicing hacking and knowing basics like PLM usage and etc. before diving in headfirst. The SMILE topic should have some good information to begin with.

PS. Sorry if I sound like a jerk, sometimes people misconcept what I'm trying to say  extra_smug

You weren't posting a ROM, were you? That's A) impractical and B) illegal. Post IPS files, they're much smaller and have the bonus of being completely legal.

Also, we already have a divided-up hack in the works: Quadrant. If I were you, I'd just spend some time creating a quickie concept mini-hack to learn the ropes of SMILE, then move on to big things. Besides which, a divided hack would take longer, as multiple people couldn't work on it at the same time. If you want a good first project, though, it seems that room 2 of Quadrant is up for grabs...
Oh no....I must... finish ....hack ...

and take that position!!

That is not true though. Multiple people can work on the same time as long as they do not over write each others data.
So yeah multiple people work, If it is well organized. And right now, This do not seams to be.

Other then that ducknerd is right. Mini-hacks is a good way to get the skill up. Just know that: No one really wants to play them most of the time.
Heck, most mini hacks I do is simple for my skill on level designing or other stuff. Not some thing fun to play.

ah, ok, then i think for now i will work on making rooms,  after that  might try contributing to quadrent.  this topic is over then.  ill work on something small now and get a hack in later.  and my saved hack said file... so it must have become a rom.  and i didnt know that until after i tried to post it.
