Actually, it's best to leave it transparent. The ginormous metroid, for example, has some intentionally transparent pixels inside of the sprite itself. Leaving those as transparent will allow you to place it on top of stuff and not look weird. Making it white is just strange.
Arghhh... I've said it before and i say it again: I am a Macintosh X 3.2.0 User and "Paint" is a drawing application that cannot be installed to macintosh. I use appleworks what is ten times better than paint, and in appleworks this "black background" thing is really annnoying.

I seem to remember there being something like paint on Macs. Are you using Mac OS X 10.3.2 or Mac OS 3.2.0? If the latter, the program may not exist. If the former, I have a friend who uses a Mac and would know what to use. I'll ask him.

I find it ironic that you say Appleworks is ten times better than Paint, and yet it idn't doing something that Paint does automatically.
The pictures are in PNG format and already have a perfectly OK transparent background. Neither white, nor black. Just transparent. So, I fail to see the problem. If Appleworks doesn't recognize transparency in PNGs, it sucks major balls and I give it a score of 0 out of a possible 1000.
What's that thing on the very last row of 'neutral creatures'? I don't recognize it.
That's the turtle found in Maridia that slams back and forth between the walls and then randomly shoots up. There's a missile tank in the right wall of the room, and an E-Tank atop a Grapple block way up top.
lol. appleworks is a great idea imo, but it's just living in 1996. i do still use the word processor to write all my documents, though.
i use graphicconverter (along with photoshop) for the sites. graphicconverter is free to use for a while though (unlike photoshop), and will do everything you need and more. imho, gkon is the best graphics application in that range (free to cheap) on any platform in all of history. everyone who works with graphics should buy a mac just for this application alone. it's that good. it even comes free on some of the machines.
and when you open a transparent image like that in it, the transparent parts will remain transparent.
Yes. I've always been an advocate of how much Paint can actually do considering it's age and how few features it has. This comic, for instance, is made entirely in Paint.
You call Bob and George art? It's basically just sprites and edits of sprites. Take a peek in www.gazler.com/users/rox though. Everything you see there that's not a random photo or screenshot was made ENTIRELY, 100% in MS Paint, Windows 98, by yours truly.
That includes this: (Okay, animation was made in TGF, but that's not much different)
This:
And my avatar, of course.
.. and that's pretty much everything I have uploaded that I'm proud of right now... I upload and delete things successively to make sure to always have some free space in my folder on Gazler. But still, whoever says Paint sucks, has no experience with what it's capable of. As photo editing and advanced graphics software, it's awful, but if you know how to use it...
