A guy named Zoizite (who does emulated time-attack runs) has discovered a new little glitch that speeds things up just a fuzz. When standing below a shootable block, you can Maru-Mari jump through the block and you don't have to wait for it to reappear. Kinda fun to play around with. Just FYI.

A DEMO

wow, there's a lawsuit-hungry domain if i've ever seen one.

Cool trick though. Don't know how useful it is.

*cough* speed runs *cough*

How do you do that?

Yeah, of course for speed runs, but I meant that I don't know how much it will really help.

Ball up, come out, and jump. It doesn't show very well since some of the frames are cut out for compression. But when you come out of the Maru-Mari, your head is in the block, so you're essentially through it. Then jump to get yourself above it.

Are the rest of the jumps made in the same fashion (morph before you jump) or can you just jump through?
They're morph jumps too - but from that point, standing on the bottom block, you can just shoot your way out.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
They sure like your 1 item run over at bisqwit's forum..guess my 2 item was too messy for their enjoyment.  :o
well, a few things about that:

1) They certainly were impressed with the concept, but not the run so much - they much rather I kill the bosses with turbo guns to save time.

2) They're picky as hell about timing jumps - I had to slow down the emulator to 10% in this third installment I'm recording right now to make it even close to acceptable.

3) It's simply a remake of your run. It looks like you used about 4 save states. I have over 4000 re-records to get it right. Again, it's not console friendly.

Basically, it's not so much my run as it is taking your run to the next level on the emulator. Yours impressed the hell out of me, which is the only reason I thought people would dig this. The only new frontier is the absence of the ice beam, and it's a pain in the rumpus.

It was more than 4, but I wasn't using one of those record/reload ones, so that's why it took a couple hours to make..

Well, you could just say screw those guys and not have to make it "perfect".
Well, I just wanted it published - watching the Tourian run without the ice-beam is pretty fun. I just threw up another attempt with use of turbo on the bosses and it goes by a bunch quicker - 18+ minutes.

I never did use a speed over 20% for the entire movie - a great advantage to making an impressive run. Not real of course, but...I think, in all honesty, I've never actually beaten Metroid in under an hour, despite my years of playing it.
