So far I have gotten around 40k frames into the run. I'm not trying to perfect the run but I damn well am not going to make it crappy. So, I feel there is a confusion on the exact number there is for the run itself, as far as the items go. Quietus was saying he/she heard it was 89% but I think that may be wrong. I can't think of all the items there are missing myself but I will list what I can remember and hope someone can fill in the blanks. I am including the items I can get and the ones that were potentially not able to get previously.

Gravity Suit
Varia Suit
Ridley ET
Space Jump
SM in GT room
Speed Missle in the beginning of Maridia
WR:
RT
2 missles?
ET?
SM
Croco:
Grapple?
2x missle?
Draygon/Botwoon:
Missle
ET

Apart from that, I can't think of anything else that wouldn't be obtainable. That's 16 if I am correct with what I said. I am sure I am wrong of course. If you don't include Crocomire, that's 13. Is there anything else I am missing?

Anyhow, I am trying to get at least 20k frames done everyday. Thus far have done 2 days worth.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Just to clarify, I wasn't saying that 89% was the maximum possible, only that that was the highest I'd ever heard mentioned.

Good luck with the run. aiwebs_004
Let's see... All the items in the wrecked ship do not exist until after phantoon is defeated so gravity, 2 missiles, 1 super missile, etank and reserve tank.

IIRC Ridley's etank, space jump and the SM in the GT room can be gotten but you cannot get out without beating the boss. Kraid's too fat to get past, and even if you could get past him you'd have the same problem of not being able to get out.

All of Croc's items can be gotten, the missiels, grapple, and even the etank.

The speed missile in maridia can be gotten with blue suit.

I think you can get the missle/etank between draygon and botwoon. I think you can use the chainsaw beam (or one of those var beams, not sure which) to force your way past a grey door and bypass fighting botwoon.

Also you cannot get springball.

I'm not sure what that makes the total percent. I thought I had only heard 86% as the max. I don't feel like counting though. Lazy. What type of route are you using btw? I could probably help you come up with something since NBMB is sorta my specialty.

And while I'm here, I might as well shamelessly plug my NBMB speedrun I did a few years back.

Ill check out your run later. Yes you can get the springball and I've proven it, with the gravity suit on but I know you could get it without the suit. I also forgot about the etank after kraid. As far as getting past kraid, its just a matter of entering kraids room and the varia room without being in them physically. At any point. I can also pass botwoon with the xray climb. Hopefully I can find a way behind kraid cus doing norfair with 2 etanks sucks. Thanks quietus.
How exactly would you get spring ball?

That 2 height gap right before the spring ball is impossible to get past as far as I know. Unless there's some TAS trick that could get past that. I don't know much about that though.

And you can have 3 etanks before reaching norfair for the first time. I do it in my run. Just get the etank in the room where the second missile pick up is.

Guardian Garr has failed to mention that he's using extreme X-ray glitching, and out-of-bounds travel. aiwebs_004
What'd you say?
He may have directly failed to mention it but he did seem to hint at it.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I think it was more a case of it being overlooked because this thread was borne after a conversation in another thread, so it was kinda already discussed / known.
Actually, I didn't prove it lmao I forgot about actually getting to the spring ball. I forgot about the e-tank there. Fuck it, I am almost through norfair anyway for the first time. As far as the spring ball is concerned, unfortunately no, I haven't found it out yet. I was, again taken by hind sight, I only found out how to get into the room itself. I've tried a lot of ways to get into that spot but the closest I can get is half a ball over the ledge. If I could only turn into a ball after wall jumping there, I could actually get there. As far as x-ray climbing is concerned, the only way I found that can enter that room at all is the previous room. Unfortunately, I have yet to find one that drops me below or behind the room, only above it, somewhere below it and inside it. The rest seem to just glitch.

I even went as far as to use the ST gun, but that just seems to make the spring ball a damage spot. I even did it right on top of the ball. I also, if this wasn't found out earlier, found a way to use the ST gun without resetting the game. If you shoot your gun at the exact same time you ball up, only 1 shot is fired and nothing happens. If you fire anything besides your gun, it will set off the glitch but only scrambles data. The only thing that doesn't work is the grapple. bombs and missles work. So as of yet, I couldn't find anything that truly gets there.

I was also looking to find a way to reach the speed missle without the blue suit. You 'could' do it if the game didn't have a retarded limit on it. If you ball up then ball out, the game won't let you speed boost until you reverse fly damage thing or land again. Since you can't land in time, this is after jumping out of the pipe, you can't get there. I can basically get under it but I can't manage to land anywhere in time. If only the fish were spawned much more to the left.

Really wish I could find a way to get the varia suit. Well... Other than that, my run looks pretty decent considering I am new to the whole thing. Which you will definitely see during the first half or so, even some in the end half. Just to give a heads up, I copied all of the movements in the x-ray room from cpadolf and the bomb room from spoofer. So I can't take credit for those rooms at all.
Well, I got closer to grabbing the spring ball. Unfortunately, even if I did get it, the only way I can find to leave is to use the ST gun, which won't reset the game but it requires that type of abuse. I'm considering using it during the run but I'm not entirely sure yet. You can easily get past the second hump before the spring ball itself, but the first one just won't let you by. Even with the crystal flash. Unfortunately, the only way I can think of to use the crystal flash and make it up there is if I can do it in mid-air. The only way to do that is to place a PB then a normal bomb right on top of it. Since the bomb takes only 60 frames to go off and you need to wait at least 100 before you can use the x-ray again, this isn't viable.

As far as item collection goes, there's got to be more that you can't get in maridia such as the SM and Missle that require speed boosting. I'll go try and find out how, but how do you shine spark without the use of Draygon? I can get said missles btw, via the situation I did before using x-ray climbing.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
If you ask me, since you're doing the run using extreme X-ray abuse, then you may as well use the ST beam as well.  It's obviously a glitched run, so I can't see it makes a difference, and this run comes across as more of a test to see just how many can be acquired by any means necessary.
Alrighty. Will do. I also found another way to get stuck in doors. I'll explain it here and I ask, should I make a new topic or add it to the glitch topic?

Anyhow, just run and jump into a door, as you are going forward, push away then towards for a frame each and enter the door on the way back forward. So at the last second, you push away then the frame after you push towards. You won't have to hit anything else and you will bungie back to the door. If placed right, you can actually re-enter the room you just left. I'll leave an SMV later.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You could post it there, simply for reference's sake.  I can't see it affecting your thread here.

If only we could find a way to bug out the Wrecked Ship, so we could acquire the items there. aiwebs_004
It might be possible. I haven't tried it yet though. I'm also very unsure about the ST gun. I can make it to where it doesn't affect time, but all the items and doors are back. I thought it didn't affect anything but the thing tricked me into thinking it, as the sand from the digger doesn't disappear. I didn't actually try it there and save it to see if it put me back at the ship. I might use it and just avoid items I already grabbed.
Edit history:
Guardian Garr: 2012-06-08 04:39:30 am
I stated what I said wrong previously. The sand is still gone after using the ST gun, some time doesn't change, but if you save you have the same issue. Such as it being the first time entering the place, but all the doors are still changed back and items returned. Working on seeing if I can use the gun in another manner and fast forward time instead somehow.

I have a few ideas to scramble some data, not that I know if it will work or not, especially since I don't know anything about the coding of the game at all really. Maybe I'll get lucky. Luck worked with me getting past botwoon, so why not now? lol
Unfortunately, with further testing, the ST gun is entirely useless in this run. I still haven't managed to find a way to go "forwards" persay using the gun itself. It always goes back to the previous room when you find a warp point. Unless it moves forwards, it won't be useful so I decline using it. I'm trying to finish the run quickly so it isn't going to look the greatest, since I'm not really looking for the best time and I really don't want to spend a ton of time on it. It takes forever to do even 1,000 frames so I'd just like to get it done quickly. I'm up to 85k frames atm, so much for the 20k a day which just ended up taking to much time and effort so I trashed that. I'm not taking the best route but I am taking "a" route lol Another 180k or so to go....
What'd you say?
You got this man! I'm so looking forward to seeing this.
I'll try not to disappoint. Just know that the run itself is going to look very mistake like. I make mistakes sometimes and just don't bother to fix them. Not to mention this is my first TAS and I am experimenting most of this.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I don't think anybody is expecting a full on TAS, with everything being near perfect.  Most of us are just interested to see all the glitchy item acquisitions.
There isn't much really. The only thing I found new was botwoon unfortunately. It would be more glitched if I could use the ST gun more usefully, but otherwise, nothing really new. I'd keep trying to get some items that aren't normally obtainable, but it takes a lot of time to find a way to them. I might be able to get the E-Tank in Kraid's area, good likelyhood though. Other than that, there really isn't anything I have managed to do that hasn't been done.
This hasn't died has it? I'm still looking forward to this run. It's gonna be awesome.
Eh kinda. I've been thinking of doing more to it lately. I just got addicted to diablo 3 and honestly, doing these are boring as fuck. But I think I will work on it little by little again.
What'd you say?
Well, if/well you do finish this run, I'll be waiting to enjoy it. =)
