When Adam shot her, I think I have a theory why. The metroid wasn't acting aggressively around Samus, at the time so, from what Adam thought, Samus was about to piss off an "unfreezable" metroid. Adam probably didn't figure she'd register him shouting at her to stop quickly enough to not shoot the metroid, so he shot her first. His plan backfired, however, when the metroid went after the crippled Samus so, in desperation, he shot at it and got lucky.

I would say Adam was foolish and desperate, but I think it's somewhat reasonable. According to a friend whose Father is a war vet, commanders WILL physically harm their men to restrain them, if it's necessary. Since he seemed to shoot her with an ice beam, they also speculate that, when Adam referred to her being healed, he meant that her muscles became weakened by the frigid temperature, since her zero suit was unscratched.

Makes more sense than a lot of other explanations I've seen around the Internet.  Still a horrible idea, though.
He probably realized it was a bad idea when the metroid went after Samus.

No, I mean the scene.  The scene was a bad idea on the part of the writers.
I would argue that the real problem, mostly, is they don't explain things properly. Like the Rdley scene, newcomers won't know why Samus was panicking since its only really explained in an obscure manga.

That, and it's a really horrible idea to include such scenes in the first place.
I would consider that a "Your mileage may vary" kind of thing. Some people think the scenes added depth

Playing it like that is kinda laying it on a little thick don't you think?

I like the game, but even when I saw that part, and the dramatic reveal came, I just went "Oh..." And after thinking back on it with others in this forum, it makes no sense!

You could consider me an "average player with a slight positive bias". But if you're getting THAT reaction from someone like me, it's probably not something that should be in there.
Again, your mileage may vary. You think it shouldn't be there because you reacted that way. I'll bet you can find some people who disagree. I, personally, thought his sacrifice was pretty dramatic, in a good way.

If you're looking for people who don't think that the writing in Other M was atrocious, you've come to the wrong forum.  Sorry, man.
And yet there are some of us here who think that it could've been MUCH worse. Definitely could've been better, I won't argue with that, but all of the complaints about the writing, the voices, and even the two scenes (Ridley and Adam) don't apply to me as much as they do for almost everyone else around here. I thought that the story elements of Other M were decent enough overall. Yeah, I'm biased in the fact that I was looking forward to the story from the beginning, but I still don't think it was the worst thing I'd ever seen.

The actual story was fine.  The dialogue and presentation... not so much.  And of course it could've been worse.  As could any bad thing.  Except maybe Twilight.

well, the fact that the game is very straight foward and without glitches (at least for now) make ppl on this forum bash the story a lot more...
True, there's not much to talk about these days as far as running the game goes. Doesn't seem like many of us are giving it a lot of attention at this point in time, myself included.
My theory is that Adam is evil and misleads Samus the entire time.  She just doesn't know he's evil.

- When following James, why isn't he coming from where Adam was after supposedly shooting him?  He's coming from where you are.
- Since Adam is alive, why doesn't he just lock the elevator so Samus can capture him?
- Why does Adam send you away from Sector Two when the Deleter is probably still in the room?

I could add more, but it then gets convoluted.  Basically, he shoots her, and takes the Metroids and goes home.  Just like Samus told us he wanted.

I'm not looking for people to agree with my opinions, that would be fanboyish. Just people that ACCEPT others' opinions, apparently it's a rarity in Gamefaqs. One of them actually said the game was "factually" bad.

- He was coming from the elevator to the main sector, meaning he COULD have been coming from where Adam was.
- Adam possibly lost control, probably due to MB. Notice how he has to run after Samus when, otherwise, he should be able to lock doors to keep her from doing so.
- Obviously, the deleter was no longer in the machine so he's likely not in the room either.

There is a case to be made for this, honestly. If it wasn't a GFAQs poster it might actually have been.

I'm not making sense of this. Are you saying that the game can logically be considered bad by fact, yet being posted by a Gamefaqs poster somehow makes it not true? I don't know which to head desk more at.

What's there to head desk about?  Other M has several earmarks of bad writing, and GameFAQs has several earmarks of an unintelligent Internet forum.  Knowing GameFAQs, they're asserting the right things for the wrong reasons.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
the game could be cosidered "bad" within the series since the only other game that gets a lot of hate is Hunters and all of the others have been received well by the media and casual metroid gamers but still, it is nowhere near shit like shovelware and low budget games.

i think that if Adam was hiding something, the best way to keep it hidden and keep his good image with samus was doing what he did. what if he chose to stay alive and get rid of sector zero by other means? samus would be asking a lot of stuff and things would get awkward fast. he would get exposed also eventually, ruining his image. by dying, the feds can sweep the whole incident under the rug and he gets to be a hero in samus' eyes.

So.... because you feel it's a bad game, means it must be a bad game by fact and not opinion?

I would consider that a factually flawed game, which pretty much everything is factually flawed in some way. You can't just say it's bad, and that's fact. I don't care how hated the game is, you don't go around, calling opinions fact. It leads to the degeneration of rational thought.

I never said it was a bad game.  It's a good game with a decent story and bad writing.

Okay, so you established you think the writing is bad. However, does that make it a cold fact?

Let's see... its egregious violation of "show, don't tell" in the Adam cutscene, the authorization system, and Samus' general regression, derailment, and weakening as a character.

And the clumsy way in which the Deleter subplot was handled.
