So here is what you need know:
* My standards of decent are very low.
* This is NOT a speedrun, although I try to be "speedy".
* I dont have anything else to play atm, since my N64 havent arrived, and when it arrives, I will still need a game for it (SM64).
* I love Metroid Prime
* I have beaten Metroid Prime ONCE, and I want to do it again.
* The first time I beated it, I didnt use a guide or such, I just used my memory to remember speedruns I had watched (Where stuff was), and I relied alot on the scan visor. This was incredibly slow and boring for me so I dont wanna do it again.
* I asked in the "I need help topic" for a route, without sequence breaks (except gravity suit skip [i think its built-in the route]. So itsPersonnal wrote me a route
Quote:
bombs, varia, the artifact (1#) in magmoor thats in the pillery stone wall thing, boost, space jump, wave, (i'd go get lifegiver and ice beam early) or super missles, artifact (2#) thermal visor, spider, artifact of lifgiver (3#) (you need to do a ghetto 'cause theres water outside the door) then ice beam then go to phazon mines , power bombs ,plasma ,x-ray, artifact in that room with x-ray (4#) , artifact (5#) in the room in the mines witht he super elite or what ever its called, phazon suit, artifact of newborn (6#), leave out the back of the mines go to the back of phen and get the artifact (7#) in phens edge, then go back track passed the spider ball room all the way to the place with wave and then get the artifact there (8#), then get out the magmoor and get the artifact (9#) at the top of the 3rd room that i dont know the name of then ice spereder, chozo ruins, artifact (10#) in the room with varia, artifact (11#) in the room with the guy who likes bowling, then go fight ridley (artifact #12 is in that room)

I will use this route for this play-through.
*  I play the PAL GC version.
* I record with a very crappy EZ Grabber that produces sickening video (imo).
* I will upload to youtube for ease-ness.
* I will probably need help later so, if you feel like helping a noob out, come check this thread !

Anyway, here are the parts so far, with a little comment:

Part 1 - The "intro" to first save on Tallon
Part 2 - Getting the Missile Launcher and Morph Ball
Part 3 - Morph ball bombs, Charge beam, also I took 1 quite slow energy tank and Missile expansion, but meh :p
Thread title:
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
part 1 was "decent" its better then my 1st speed run i did about a year (1:56)

you really should learn to dash tho SJF takes of SOO much time...

If I only had the energy to learn it. i almost wish i lived in the US so i had the 0-00 (or 0-01) version so I could just scan dash, doing the combat dash(?) takes so much longer and is harder to practice

i had the 0-02 US copy when i first learned how to dash ,the best spot to practice is tallon canyon (two rooms from the ship) off the zoomer

the button input is just

L, left/right then tap B and let go of  L, left/right  (i find double taping B makes you go a bit faster)
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
once your good at dashing test it out off the ship
Well there's also the R-dash for those who're terrible at combat dashing. *coughit'smucheasiertocough*
Sorry for being clueless, but R-dash? I'm absolutely horrible at combat dashing and I'd accept any easier alternative.
All an R-dash is is just a combat dash only you don't let go of L and you press R to get the speed you need (it also pushes you back a bit meaning you have more room for positioning error.)

I prefer R-dashing over regular dashing for SJF anyways 'cause I'm more consistent at it.

Anyway, im gonna upload now part 3 now uhm,.. progress will not be the fastest on this play-thru!

edit: tried doing part 4, and well it didnt went well, so i'll try more later :D

edit2: im trying to learn space jump first actually, and i tried for 1h today, and now i hate this game.. might like it later.

If you want I could record and upload a tutorial video on the R-dash method.
Yes please, if it's not much of a bother for you. It takes hours for me to do that stupid combat jump.
Alright once I find a good time I'll go ahead and PM you the video.
When i practiced earlier today, i dont know what was wrong, i was probably wrong positioned, because i did the dash and i flew like hell, but i didnt land on the "edge".. i was probably not close enough to the edge
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
well as you can see im using the scan dash but its the same for the combat dash

try and follow that but off the seeding (i think its a seeding in that room)
Hm, i kinda started to get it now, i looked at the EU SS run and I saw that he "Z-paused" when doing the dash, so well, its easier that way imo.

also i stream this : http://www.justin.tv/lambdan
You should make sure that the seedling is as close to the door as possible when it closes. This allows you to move as far back on the ship without losing your lock-on.
My consistent strats for SJF are:
*Seedling more to the right of the room
*Start backing on the left side
*Get up on the right side of the ship
*Get into position so you see the whole arrow on Samus ship and a tiny little line of "gras" on the side of the ship
*Hold right and press B and MASH Z
*Once Z-map comes up release everything

^^

i really dont think that does anything (well i guess so but i could only see it make things harder, its just one more thing you need to time right or everthings gets messed up)i do get how it would kinda help in theory tho

btw are you working on you speedy-ish play thru at all or is all of you time going to SJF, 'cause i would really like to see more of this run

Meh i will restart the run actually. Im trying to go through the route trying that everything works etc, but havent gotten very far with it (im at thermal part).
mario 64 is taking too much time :p

heres a little video of sjf btw:

hmm looking at the video, the seedling where more on the middle but whatever, it worked :D
lol I suppose I don't need to make that tutorial video of the R-dash for you.

Actually the only thing that I can say is that the timing you use for Z is the timing for R. (minus letting go of everything.) but since you've got a way that works for you I suppose the R-dash is useless for you now.

Heh, yeah im fairly consistent with this strat. thanks anyway :p
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
so your gonna restart and do SJF?
Yep, thats my plan.. when I will do this is unsure ;p i dont have the motivation ^^

well i dont say this much to people who speedrun but this isnt really a speed run like you said its your 2nd playthru

just play and take what you get go for like sub 2 hours and dont reset on every little mess up, if you dont get to mad at the game you wont hate it and never want to play it again, so stuff like SJF, wild, and any other breaks that you might find hard just take a few trys on if you got space jump 1st you take of a lot of time anyway
