In addition to the "quick" beams MB fires as a response to sufficient damage to the eye, the "slow" beams seem to be triggered by any part of samus dropping below the level of the platform - hanging from the edge or falling in the lava, usually. Is this known?
Thread title:
by me it is. others?
I've noticed many times that happening: Usually resulted in my death too  Evil or Very Mad
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I wasn't even aware that the beams had varying speeds.  I guess I'm not up to date....

The one from missile-ing the brain charges up over about one second; the other one takes about 3 or 4.
lol no way
Uhm. There's different speeds? Hahaha... awesome. I always just thought she just fired the non-missile beam as soon as you were back on top of the two platforms... whatever. Doesn't seem like different speeds to me. Shows what I know.
I usually use missile to use on the MB, and my beams on the Rinkas
to get ammo.

I don't even notice the speed, 'cuz I am more focused on MB.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Huh, now that I think about it, the beam does charge longer when you fall off the platform I didn't really notice it and I've killed that thing a ridiculous amount of times.

It's amazing what you pass up when you don't really pay attention.
red chamber dream
Well I missed it too the first times I beat the game. Guess I wasn't paying attention either.
Wow. I always thought she just shot you when you got back up. Interesting.

So what happens if you decide to stay in the lava? Is it possible to shoot her eye from the lower position? If so, what happens after 5 shots?

You can't stay in the lava, because you would be dead.

The lava drains your energy while you are in it, the only way to shoot the brain is when you are on the platforms, you'll have to avoid the shot by jumping over it while avoiding the Rinkas.

That is the only way, I'm afraid.

Well, if you have enough energy tanks, you won't die for a long time.

And carlmmii, the eye doesn't open unless you're on a platform. You could shoot at it, but your shot would be deflected by the eyelid.
Damn. There goes that theory.  :(
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
I just don't see why MB just sleeps through the battle and never open her eye. Well, I guess I shouldn't complain about it.
While we're on the subject of boss AI, I'm noticing that Mecha Ridley's eye lasers aren't entirely random.

He has a number of sequences of directions that he fires them in, such as:
Forwards, Down, Slight Down
Up, Straight, Up
Slight Down, Slight Down, Slight Down (most evil)

He doesn't always start at the beginning of the sequence, and they seem to loop, but still... I've found myself being able to predict where the next laser will land a good amount of the time.
