Motherin-law? Wouldn't it just be mother? Since the female takes the males last name, Mrs. Aran would be Mr. Aran's mother. Mrs. Samus's-maiden-name would be Mr. Aran's mother-in-law.
and then mrs. aran said, "hey samus! no doing bomb jumps on the kitchen floor!"
very sweet. =p
Sigged!
And about the new raytrace…
That thing is awesome! The next thing you need to do is make one with a spider ball track or a power bomb. The bomb jump one is cool, but it needs a new "floor".
@nate: ja. ich habe es gern. I'm not sure about the anchor tag, I don't like doling out my email address because they always get spam-harvested, and at the current time my only website is a messageboard I wrote, which isn't really appropriate for general contact. hrm. I'll think about that.

hahah. that's somehow made funnier by the fact that I used to get told off for skateboarding up and down the kitchen. (those checkered floors are like the standard raytracing sandpit - everybody uses them when they need a background and don't have one.)
I'm getting into this now, and I feel like doing something else. But I don't know what ... the spider track one is quite a cool idea, I've been considering that for a little while actually.

I generally use basic black, but that's just me. :P
The "metallic sphere on a checkered plane" is a very typical raytracer test scene. Here's what one POV'er that I know from the POV-Ray news server thinks of it:
spectere, can you think of a way to create the texture for a spiderball track ?
I can do horizontal stripes easily by scaling a checker, but the spiderball texture is more like
Code:
__ __
__\/__
__\/__
__\/__
__\/__

sort of thing.
Ideally I'd want to use the scaled checker pattern and find some way to warp the centre of it downwards to make that grooved pattern. I've looked at all the pattern warps and can't find anything suitable.
What I don't want to do is break out the Gimp and start using gifs as textures, even though that would probably be easier, as I'd much prefer scenes to be renderable with just the POV files.
I'm not too good at texturing with POV-Ray, to be honest. Most of the scenes that I do are either mainly testing ideas (I'm thinking of doing one that tries to use mirrors to reflect light into a dark room), surrealistic or abstract images with simple textures, use plenty of media (typically goes along with the previous point), or just don't get done. :P
I'll see what I can do but I can't guarantee anything.
don't worry about it, I just wondered if you had anything off the top of your head.
EDIT:
last one up the Furnace has to go and fight Thardus !
few problems I think, spiderball track is too bright, scene is over-lit again, not mad keen on stone textures, not sure about the door reflected in the marble, but it's basically there.
also, this one only took 22 minutes to render, which is a rather refreshing change.
That's amazing, I don't think the room is over lit at all, the bomb blast would make a large amount of light, but some of the textures are a bit off like you say.
nice job. stone textures and lighting issues stand out the most, imo. the door reflection is fine. i just don't like how the color is even wrong in the rock to be chozo ruins.
DJ you work never ceases to amaze me. I think it's absolutely incredible. The Morph Ball hole stands out to me to be very accurate. The spider ball track isn't quite right but it's damn good enough. The bomb is very nice too, seems very Primeish. I agree though it's overlit, some more shadows and contrast on the stone walls would be nice I think. But overall that's a really good job. Keep it up :)
yeah, I guess expecting people to say "no, those textures are superb ! Don't change them or I'll slay your entire family !" was a bit optimistic. :P
this is always the problem with trying to do a "real" scene as opposed to an abstract one. I think before I'd even written a single line of code I knew straight away that when it was finished the textures would suck.
