Hi,

I am trying to find a good Metroid icon set and theme for my computer so that I can make it look all Samus- and Metroid-like.  I can't seem to find anything good on ResExcellence.com, which usually has what I need.

Preferrably, I would NOT like a guikit file (for a theme) because I am not excited about paying $20 for ShapeShifter and there are plenty of free apps out there for themes.

If anyone knows of a sound that I could use for "shut down" that would be helpful too.  I already use the "appearance fanfare" for "log in sound".

Oh, and if you know any REALLY good desktop patterns, that would help too.

Thanx!

Oh, and I am running OS X "Panther".
Thread title:
all i'm aware of is the metroid icon set that was at xicons.com, but they must have taken it down ... anyway i still had the full set on my drive, so i uploaded it. other than that, though, nothing that i know of.
Hey, I am not on my computer right now, but I have, on my PC I have a theme with all of the metroid prime sounds. I suggest the samus dying sound for shutdown, which i have, as well as a lot of the other sounds. Like recorded to logbook, metroid cry....you name it.  Also I have a windows 98- look, red for the toolbars with Courier new font with one of the site's backgrounds for the desktop. For the main mouse cursor i have a samus sprite pointing up-left. For a wait cursor I have a gamecube with the light on. All the other stuff is basicly the basic cursors with a red tint. Someone else, for the most part, has put this together. But I have made the windows, fonts, ect. If you wish to have this, send me a PM. You'll love it, I swear. This is open to anyone else as well. Also, it's a regular windows theme file. I will zip up the stuff and put it on my FTP ASAP.

Uhh... He did mention he was running Mac OS X Panther... And as far as I know, WinThemes are not compatible with the Mac OS... Rolling Eyes

Not to make you feel bad or anything, but still... ;)
No they are not. Sadly.

I also need ANY theme that would look cool that don't need shapeshifter or any guikits.
Jeez. I really need to read posts more carefully.  Embarassed  Anyway, The offer is still open to anyone with windows.

Can't help you, USB -- except to say I think your avatar is awesome.  Seraphim's a cutie.  Woo.

Guess that doesn't help at all, does it?

Thanks anyway

Nate, the icons are great, but they are even better combined with a set I found that was by using pics from Echoes.  It is on:

http://www.ResExcellence.com/archive_icons_01/pop.shtml

I believe that I might have enough icons to make a system replacement set now!! :D

Oh, and the download includes the same icons in Windows format.

I don't know, they might be useful in some way.  You'd be amazed on how much stuff I have pried open to find a way to use it, of course it usually involved ResEdit and Windows files have no resource forks…

For all of you wondering about the "resource forks"… Older Mac files were divided into 2 pieces that were called forks.  The data fork controlled how the program worked and the resource fork held all of the gui data.  Almost every graphic, bar, box or anything in an OS 9 program can be changed by using ResEdit.

Please excuse my long post, all of you who knew about forks and those that don't care about them

Edit:  I realize now that I need 2 more icon types: the CD set and the DVD set.  Because of the MP2:E boxart (http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1564) I got the idea that I could use the Echoes disc for the DVD icons and the Prime disc for the CD icons.  One problem:  Although the pic of the Echoes disc is readily availible, I have no way to get the Prime disc.  (Google image search yielded nothing.)  I was wondering if one of you maybe has a scanner or a digital cam and could post a scan or pic of the Prime disc?  I would be very grateful and would also be willing to convert the icons to Windows format as well as provide an iContainer if I ever manage to finish this crazy scheme of mine.  Thanks!
lol. go spontaneous lecture on r.forks.

well, here it is ... the quality is pretty bad, though.

thanks for the heads up on the additional icons, and good luck styling!

Ready and willing.
Heh, I'm suprised I knew about resource forks, even if I didn't know they were called forks. Go random knowledge!
Wow!  Shocked

I didn't realize that the pic of the disc would be so… GOOD!

Seriously, though.  The pic I had of the Echoes disc is less than 128x128 as I found when I tried to paste it into Iconographer.  (http://www.mscape.com)  Thank you very much Nate!
Starman: I would like to have the theme you had.

On a tangent (I can go on those 'cause I'm a mathematician)... USB, what's with your sig?  Does The Rock use S as a word?  If so, what does it mean?  If not, who does?  What's the square root of 256?  And what does all this have to do with Arctic seals?

First of all,  The Rock S is on a T shirt.  I don't know if you have seen them.  They are for Slippery Rock University.  "S" means that someone wore the shirt that day.  People say "Ah, The Rock S" and the person wearing it says yes.  The way of asking if someone will wear it the next day is in a future-tense question.  (Will The Rock S tomorrow?)  The square root of 256 is 16.  I believe that arctic seals can stay out of this mess.  It will be better for them if they do.

On the other (topic related) hand, I am grateful that bartendorsparky has posted some helpful stuff at http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1595

On www.metroid.com you can play a game where you can scan stuff, and recieve information about said things, and random downloads as well.  I was bored, and decided to make a collection of all the downloads.  Well, here they are:

http://www.metroid2002.com/bartendorsparky/MP2-Echoes%20Goodies.zip

And for all of those who are getting the Metroid icons from Nate's link,  I found the website where they have gone.  It is: http://mindfad.com/osicons/sets/metroid.sit.  I have all of the icons except a few.  I will put up some pictures…

Pictures of the icons I have from the sets

Pictures of the places I have to put icons

I also posted the icons I made for the discs:  (Note: they are in my Yahoo! Briefcase because I couldn't fit all of the junk I needed onto my M2K2 storage)

Windows
Mac

As for the theme, I haven't found anything so I've started to create a theme for my computer.  I will post the theme when it is done.  It will be in .theme format or .dlta format; anyone wanting a guikit should contact me.

That's really, really weird.  (No, I've never seen those shirts before.  I probably would have sooner or later, though.  Shirt happens.)

While I'm asking you stupid questions, what's Seraphim standing on?

Shocked I thought no one would ever ask.  It is Piro's head.  It comes from #603 and a little Photoshop clone called GIMP.  I should change my avatar.  (To another pic of Seraphim of course, whatd'ya think I am, some kind of idiot?)
