It looked like so much work had been done already. I wonder if the project has been totally abandoned, and if there was a cease-and-desist order behind it. Guess I can always cross my fingers that one day it will show up out of the blue like a gift from heaven, but it doesn't look good.
All the work I'd seen was the trailers, and weren't those explicitly called out as being just mockups with no actual engine behind them? Very pretty mockups, to be sure, but not indicative of any progress towards an actual game.
Not that I wouldn't love to see SR388 finished, I'm just not as optimistic as the rest of you appear to be. Making a game is hard work.

From my understanding the teasers were made on his engine, but the rooms showed in them were mockups and not actually in the game.
All right, let me tell you what I've heard. This is all I know, don't ask me anything else. From what I've heard, PLG has taken down the public site and is continuing to work in private on the game. There has been a new lead coder appointed because he's still tired of coding by this point. Development is now private so if we see anything from him it'll be rare. That's all I know.
thats still no reason to cut off his site. though I think that keeping news and publicity to a minimum would be safest (the chrono trigger remake would have lived to release had they never shed light of the project) but he could still have a website with forum or say "coming soon"
its pretty bad to just disappear and leave us hanging
Ha! What if they decided to redo the whole thingmost of it ? Give it a whole new look and feel (I'm thinking 'animation wise' mainly)... above and beyond what it would've been.
Is *snip* still around? He helped with some of the animations... Maybe he knows.
But (I realize) that may not mean he'll talk.
Edit: I'll remove that person's name. I wouldn't want him to get spammed with PMs asking him questions he's probably not at liberty to answer anyway.
Think of it this way, the less attention it gets (and the less it's known about), the less chance that a C&D will come about. It's a win-win that it gets released and the developers have total privacy with no one asking, "IZ TEH GAME DUN YET?@!"
According to developper, in the worst case there are great contingency plans providing much sprite-work.
And I am working on a revolutionary Metroid2-remake already. When I get certain things done he wanted to make some graphics-work for me based on the Planet SR388. I dont know other people change their opinions or not but chances are there to get something at all.
It is the best to keep things secret. The developper is probably concerned he will earn some hate-posts since he promised too much for the quick. So that might be the reason why it is not enjoyable to post here at the moment.
wow... you finally stopped bashing a 15 year old control system to add "jumping" to your super metroid 2 ideas list? Awesome, I am totally looking forward to your fangame. oh, and by the way... isn't this the wrong place to be advertising your own fangame? or do you have to do it here because your idea list topic will get locked?
I wonder if PLG ever got through his financial troubles? The existence of even the most basic info on his project these days is about as invisible as old in-development NES titles.
That said, it makes me wonder how the rest of the team is doing, too. I certainly hope at the very least that it's sitting around somewhere, in its incomplete state. D:
Bet you guys are curious about what's going on, right?
Long story short, the MSR388 forums were hacked. PLG got fed up and decided to make development private. He also didn't want to deal with all the inane comments that forums tend to have. (aka moderating a forum while developing. it's just pointless, really)
We are currently developing via a private forum that no one has access to except us members. Development is not going that smoothly though, as one of our programmers will be leaving us in the near future. If anyone is skilled in GM and wants to help take the reigns, please let us know ASAP.
If you guys have any other questions, feel free to ask, as I'm just as involved in development as anyone else on the team is. Thanks for your patience, guys. We haven't forgotten about you!
