I like how the intro to each game features samus doing that quick turn-and-shoot move.  It always uses whatever suit you had in your current save.  I'm on MP2 now and it even added gravity boost and grapple once I obtained them and reloaded the game.  It's a nice touch.

One big turn off for me, though, is the lack of game-specific titlescreens.

Disappointing. I was totally looking forward to starring at MP's title screen and listening to its music for a few minutes.
The games' title screen musics are available in the Soundtrack Galleries, and the Prime and Prime 2 ones don't require purchasing with credits.

Also, the game does not come in a tin. It's a metal clamshell disc case. Much better that way, in my opinion.

No doubt that the Trilogy case is the sexiest case in Metroid history. Hell, in Wii history (short though it is). And I really liked Prime 2's.

I won't lie though, playing all of the games back to back like this is changing my opinion on them. Corruption isn't as bad as I remember; some of the areas are damn cool. Prime is sexy as ever. But Echoes is waaay more boring than I remember it being. It's just so... dull. The level design isn't appealing at all.

That seems to be a common opinion when playing echoes in light of other games in the series. Was that your first time playing it in a while?

Is the MP trilogy a dual-layered disc ?

Of course it is, there are 3 big games crammed in that disc with more content than the original 3 games contained.  My Wii is working fine with it and I got my Wii launch day.  I've only played a bit of MP:1 on the trilogy edition so far and it's delicious.

Interesting to note I'm not the only launch console that's working FINE.
I totally hate the new phazon suit acquisition animation.

You do notice it in the cutscenes, but otherwise, it's not a huge deal.

Also in the Thardus battle.

Yeah, I've only beaten the game once (maybe twice). Whenever I start it, I want to admire the all of the detail and cool enemies, but I'm never compelled enough to finish it. The constant key-hunting is super monotonous and a lot of the "gameplay" consists of pulling bullshit moves like hiding scan points just to frustrate you. At least in Prime 1, it made sure you knew you had to find them.

It IS hard to deny that the Sanctuary Fortress is awesome, though. If the game has any redeeming values at all, it's that place. And perhaps Torvus Bog.

Yeah that's pretty much how that game goes with me now, I can't get motivated to play for very long. Agon is the embodiment of dull and that's the first place you end up going. :/

Dude, Agon has GOT to be the least compelling area in Metroid history... the music is barely even there, even the lightning doesn't make any noise for some reason (even when it strikes right in front of you).

What kills me is that it COULD have been so much cooler. Do you remember the elevator right before you step into the real Agon? It's full of gears and shit. If they had gone somewhere with the whole "gear" theme, added some real music, stepped up the area design to give off a more "grand canyon" theme (rather than rocky crevice theme) I think it could have been potentially awesome. Imagine the nifty puzzles you could add using the sand/gear theme.

But as it turned out... man. Even the pirate presence couldn't save that place.
All aboard the soul train
The Sanctuary Fortress was badass, though.

But other than that, Prime 2 had some boring areas. Prime 1's weren't exciting by any means, but they were very diversified and interesting, and everyone loves Phendrana Drifts. Too bad Bryyo Ice wasn't expanded on in Prime 3.

i enjoyed agon more than most parts of the game. "enjoyed" is pushing it though.

missed potential should be the game's subtitle.

Yeah, I'll agree with just about everything you said. Prime 1 had pretty generic areas, but by the time you arrived at each one, it was so different from the place you just left that it was still fun and interesting to explore. More importantly, the pacing was right- by the time an area started to drag, you get to a new one. Awesome.

Echoes fails to comprehend this concept and Corruption seems to understand it but forgets from time to time.

And I fail to see how anybody could possibly enjoy Agon.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Echoes did "dark and dreary".  That's not naturally appealing to the eyes.  How could you every say "Wow!" to that?

Sanctuary fortress was appealing to the eyes.  Bright colors always draw more attention than dark, dreary colors.

True, but dark and dreary colors can still be compelling if they're well utilized. Echoes just failed to do that.

I see a lot of hate on echoes here, I entirely loved echoes, as much as I would love MP1, it's just a different game with a different atmosphere

Normally I'd be on your side, but playing all of these back-to-back I gotta say that I'm not having very much fun playing Echoes.

It's kinda funny that your saying that because I am having more fun with echoes then any of them, maybe I am getting tired of MP1 and 3
I LOVE echoes.  The atmosphere, music, art, map layout, A +++++

this is a serious question: are you high on a mind-altering substance right now?
Well, he's not really wrong about two of those things... the art and music were both good.

No, it's just my opinion.  Eye of the beholder and all that crap.
