Lately I've been doing some GC TASes and feel that I understand dolphin enough to start a larger TAS thats more then just a level in SA2B, so I'm picking Metroid Prime 2. this TAS *WILL* be segmented to make things easyer because DTM likes to desync after a a few minutes. and I think I'll just use milesSMB's route (unless theres a faster TAS only route?)

Make sure you remember to leave out the "Movie Finished" at the end of the video!

Somebody give me some information on TAS I have a perfect running computer that runs the frames per second perfectly, but I need help figuring out recording I've looked at countless guides and none have helped, I'm trying to TAS Super Smash Bros Brawl mostly because there is a lack of videos on that, I'm so close I just need some reliable way to record because when I don't use the emulators record option the controls are perfectly normal, but when I do record the button on the Xbox controller rapid fires, ever character dash dances on crack, also they double jump, rapid shield, and its like a turbo GameCube controller literary , its totally stopping me from making a successful run through, I'm not sure how to use Fraps and whether or not that will even work without using the actual emulator's record/ dump frames option, because if I dump frames and don't record, and watch the Avi back it shows me jump back to every savestate I have saved, I'm so lost with recording its not funny, please help MrSpeedrun or ItsPersonal, and thanks for your support guys

DDRevolutions, PM me

Update: it seems Metroid Prime 2 is like Mario Sunshine and Sonic Colors. It WONT play back the movie file, looks like this is ether going to need to wait or be done the frame dump method... and I don't like the frame dump method.
Aw that sucks. I was really looking forward to a TAS of both GC Primes. Is it just those specific games or is it a configuration or a specific build of dolphin that might be causing the problem? I know that TAS support in dolphin is still really iffy.

Honestly I'd watch a frame dump if it was emulated at 100% speed and at least 480p but I understand why you are against it.

I've tried a 7 or so different revisions with no luck, I don't think its the configuration becasue my configuration is the same as pretty well everyone else who TAS'es with dolphin, so yeah I think its just the games.
Hmm well I hope that it isn't a problem specific to the game because again I'd really love to see this TAS. I imagine that Wii and XBox360 will be the last TAS-able consoles as I highly doubt that developers are worried about determinism issues when multithreading on consoles.

Well Brawl TAS is finally a go, and as soon as I'm done with brawl TASing, I'm going to move on to Metroid Prime TASing, Mr Speedrun better watch out  I can run Gamecube, Wii, and Playstation 2 games all at 60 frames per second in HD

im pretty sure that you cannot beat my times :P

When TASing it's not the player that matters, if DDR optimizes more then you in your run, your times will be beat, simple as that.

i think it depends on which game youre playing i cannot really believe that it will better than my ones because metroid prime 1 is so fcking random that just every run seems like completly changes the time.
optimizing every jump and dash will be a hell of a job (or maybe impossible?) and im pretty sure that we sadly will not see the mistakes but lets see how the tas will look than we can continue talking about it im still waiting <.<
i am really interisted if he can beat the time of my space jump first.

and i know that it is defenitly NOT perfect.

Your escape's been beaten in real-time once you factor out the lack of loads... <_<

hm well ok. but my times on tallon and in the chozo ruins are much faster than any real time record and i really hate tassing the frigate i done it to often and too long.
i've done urmom too often and too long. actually nah i haven't
red chamber dream
yeah you're pretty short
as long as you're not talking about my dick

I think it is possible. Just look at some of the TAS runs on Super Mario World. The latest TAS is only 1.05 seconds faster (63 frames) than the previous. It is pretty amazing how dedicated people are to optimization. Not saying that Metroid Prime will be as easy as SMW but still there are extremely dedicated people out there.

Speaking of frames, why not output these videos at 60 frames per in game second (aka no frameskip, just allow slowdown) then use an external program to correct the fps since your computer can't render at 60fps. It might take some time but if you are playing back from the dolphins recording and it doesn't desync you could practically do it overnight. Also no sound makes me sad =(

And the new 0 star run in Super Mario 64 (5:03.8) is almost as close to perfect as it can get -I'd say 5:03.5 is the best possible

also the SonicA2B new Pyramid Cave TAS me and USTA2877 is almost 16 seconds faster then the old record that was said to be optimized.

Mrspeedrun: as of now your TAS is good, but new speed tricks and more optimization will take minutes if your over all time.

i never saw a good tas yet the ones from petrie are slow and i never saw any other prime tas's.
tassing prime is harder than playing it in real times on some places... (you cannot see mistakes as good as in real time sometimes and also sometime it is harder to do the tricks perfect)
and doing it with this shitty and crashing dolphin and this laggy fraps ect. is damn hard.
im satified with my frigate and im very happy with my ice beam first. (oh yes and i have a really fast computer trust me)
i think if someone will make a metroid prime tas later he really should do a 21% because that would save so much time its not even funny i hope the guy who will try that has an idea how he dash really fast and how not to waste too much time (doing fast and close space jumps to not waste his time with setting up dashes or jumps, using all speedtricks ect.) also he must not forget things for tas runs that often happened to me personally.
i think without doing test runs like i done in my frigate ones it is impossible to do a good one.

No worries Mr. SpeedRun this game is going to be optimized fully I have full intentions to bring the game time down as much as possible I find your TAS speedrun so inspiring I started to TAS myself, I have finally got all my preparations done thanks to ItsPersonal, I have seen Petries and how slow it is, I will upload videos as soon as possible showing my speed in comparison to your current run, I'm going to make sure that every frame is spot perfect may the best TAS speedrunner take the record, best of luck to you MrSpeedrun, untill then don't be upset if someone else has more motivation for this TAS
