Running out of plausable reasons? Only Prime and Fusion have an explanation at all. I'm more worried that they're running out of planets for Samus to blow up  Rolling Eyes .

Seriously, though, I too have to say Fusion is a brilliant game. It may not live up to previous Metroid games, but ultimately I don't think that should make it a bad game. Just think of it as Metroid Lite or something. Although, it would have helped if the fusion suit wasn't designed by a colorblind person.
whoa. finalcloud's entire 8:03 pm post should be enshrined here forever as a testament to our superiority over gamefaqs. such a pleasant surprise to come back from class and see that.

and i wholeheartedly agree with all of his points, too. ;) the inclusion of the shinespark is enough for me to consider fusion a metroid game - sess's run will most likely show how useful it really is in fusion, just like in metroid 3 before it.

one last thing: don't forget that fusion is highly portable. doing a 1% run can't be beaten for long car/plane trips.

El jacko, please don't kil me but i had to say 'yay' to Fusion.

At least you don't know where i live; AHHHH!!!! IT'S IN MY USER NAME!!!!

...Anywhoo... About the whole "linear" problem. I know you guys don't like how every mission is said out to, and that you guys want to do what you want so you can sequence break the game.

I would like to bring something up about that.  During the game, Samus reflects on many things and i'm sure that somewhere towards the beginning of the game, SHE HERSELF COMPLAINS ABOUT BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

I'm sure she doesn't appreciate you guys killing her 3000 times trying to get through the game without half the stuff either.  Laughing
If I were her, I'd be pissed about losing the power suit I've had since forever to a friggin' X creature, especially after destroying the X's natural predator.  If you can kick the predator's ass, you oughta be able to kick the predator's prey's ass, no problem.

Power suit >>>> Fusion suit
samus is too much of a badass to even think about things like that. she's a true hero; she just gets the job done, even if it means bearing the weight of command plus reduced offensive/defensive ability.
Samus Lauren
I can prove my point.

"For someone who dislikes taking orders, this is the second time I've found myself having to do so." --Samus Aran, Metroid Fusion.

Doesn't seem like she's to happy about it to me, even if she is a real hreo(and i'm not saying she isn't!) she likes to do things her way. Very independent, she is.
i probably should have used the word 'consider' instead of 'think about.'

what i meant was that she would never consider not helping the federation, even though they are going to give her a computer brain in a jar stalker that constantly locks her in rooms.
Samus Lauren
Heh, that's pretty funny.

Plus, don't worry, i get your point now. I'm not mad and never was. :D

My Review. And yes, I voted "Yay."
I decided I wasn't going to waste my time with another similar topic. And so I'm posting my thoughts here.

I liked Fusion...quite a bit actually. While it's not perfect I thought it was a worthy sequel. MF is rather creative with the story, (something that the previous games lacked) and play control was pretty smooth. There where some things that took some getting used to. Having to hold L to shoot missiles, and the wall jump was really restricted. I liked the Shine Spark move though. It was easier to use than in Super and you could do more stuff with it. Music and sound seems really tiny. It sounds a bit better if you use headphones. The music is not the best in the world but it's still atmospheric, and I think that's pretty important for a Metroid game.
The biggest problem here is the linearity. Thus making the game pretty easy. Yes, you can visit all the areas at the end, but it feels like such a chore collecting all those missed items.
Still, aside from the linearity it's pretty fun and pretty lengthy.
So my vote is Yay.

This topic has been an eye-opener... 19-8. What I'm seeing here is that Fusion was a good game, but contained key elements that alienated the truly hard-core Metroid fans, though with sane reasons. The only nay voters around here have been either sequence breakers or people who have at one time or another ran sequence breaking sites, with the rogue exception of el jacko.

Now, I don't want to scare you guys, but there's a mid-range chance for another linear Metroid game for the GBA, depending on how far Nintendo pushes its luck, and how vocal you guys are. Zero Mission won't be it, as that would require WAY too much remodeling of the original game, but the thing is is that Fusion was rather well recieved overall. Nintendo here has to evaluate how much of an asset the hardcore fans are. On the Gamecube, it's no question. The hardcore fans are the only counter-balance to the PS2's leader momentum and the X-Box's fairly succesful age-bracket propaganda. But on the portable side, Nintendo is just plain dominating, dominating the PS2 in fact. Where are the fans going to rebel to? The N-Gage? And the blow is sorta cushioned by the intervening Zero Mission. But then, Nintendo also has reasons to take the extra effort of a non-linear game, especially if they're smart (which they probably are, after all the hardships, they've been through). Making it non-linear won't really hurt the opinion of other groups. Also, the GBA and GC worlds aren't seperated by a brick wall (especially after the 9 zillion GBA-GC connectivity plugs they put in themseleves), although a good Metroid Prime 2 would allievate this. And the fact is, while Nintendo might get away with it, they might not, especially when a third GBA game would proabably be released a lot closer to the release of the PSP. So, unfortunately, we must wait and see.
amazing. i had no idea you were that intelligent.
You seem to indicate that a game which allows sequence breaking isn't good for a casual gamer... but that's hardly the case.  I'd guess less than 1% of the people who played prime have done anything other than the intended major item route.  Super metroid it's a lot easier to think of things than prime, and probably a lot of the players who've played it have done stuff.  I know I was 9 years ago... heck you had to use the two extra moves to get out of the areas where you learned them.  When it comes to fusion though, it was designed with restriction in mind: sb-ing is impossible from the programming and from the level design both.  It'll still seem fine for the average joe, but not to people who expect better from metroid.
basically we're hoping people who worked on fusion learned from the experience and will try to do better next time (from a programming standpoint).

Err... I guess I didn't clarify that well. I kinda overlooked that... what I was thinking is that it took more effort to make a non-linear game than a linear one, so if Nintendo felt like it, they could try to get away with laziness... but now that sounds sorta silly. Ah well, shoulda examined my assumptions more.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
A game can appeal to both the casual gamer and the hardcore rip-em-apart gamer at the same time and still be successful. Prime and Super are examples of this. And if we're lucky, Nintendo will take notice of how Radix's eye-opening run resparked interest in Metroid Prime.
nein, niet, nay, no, ect ect and all that jazz
ive said it before and ill say it again: i only hate fusion cause it sucks Idea  Question
What?!  It is merely challenging.  Its really fun finding out all of the secrets after you get everything in the game.  When you play a beaten file, you can see how much tanks you need left.  Plus, Shinesparking is really fun!

I see how it is.  Whoever voted for fusion is afraid to come foreward because he knows he will be hunted down and killed.  I honestly don't blame him.

Well, if I could vote again, I'd do it for Fusion. What's so wrong against that? I didn't quite like Prime, and you don't see me bashing it everywhere I go. So what would you do against me, just because I let my opinion be known?

Quote from RoboBlob:
P.S. Fusion Sucks.

Prove it with valid points, taking aside your obviously biased feelings for Prime. I challenge you. As I said above, I didn't like Prime at all, but I don't bash it everywhere I go. So please, I'd suggest you do the same. Thank you for understanding.
Fine! Fusion sucks because:

1: It has almost NO SBing potential.  This is especially evident when you compare it to Super and Prime.

2: It is the most linear Metroid game, if not THE most linear game in existance.  There is almost no skill involved in navigating the areas.

3: It ruins the classic Samus look.  I know how good the suits look is purely an opinion, but I really hate the fusion suit.

I'll admit, the bosses and weapon systems in this game are cool, but to me , that's about it.  It's short and easy as hell.

P.S.: 4: Have you ever heard of hyperbole? I know it isn't "extremely gay in every way" I was just trying to show how much I disprove of it.
Even though I agree with all those points, I have to qualify it by saying I think ALL GameBoy games suck.  That's of course my opinion, and my prejudice that I hate squinting at a tiny screen.  It just doesn't seem as much like a game than it does a Happy Meal toy.  It's like a great song that's only available on a scratchy 45 RPM record.

All that being said, I had fun playing Fusion.  But that's the point--I've played it, and now I'm basically done with it--there's very little replay value.

And a DECADE later, I'm still playing Super Metroid.
