Does anyone know where to find a Metroid II map which labels the various "Ruins" and "Metroid Cities"?  I remember seeing one once, but now I can't find it.  I'd like to be able to refer to locations in the game a bit more precisely than "that spot over there with the Metroids."
Thread title:
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Radix made a regular M2 map that's at gamefaqs..but I'm guessing you're asking about something else.
I'm not sure where the ransom part comes in.
After Metroid II ends, Samus never really goes to the Ceres Station to deliver the last metroid, only to have it stolen by Ridley.  In reality, Ridley left a note on Samus' gunship saying that he had taken the last metroid hostage and wouldn't release it unless his demands were met.  Samus, being a proud bounty hunter, could never actually admit what happened, so she made up the whole story.

So, really, it has EVERYTHING to do with ransom.

Sheesh, sometimes you have to spell things out for people.  The signs are staring at you throughout the entirety of Super Metroid and you completely missed them.  I'm sure that now you know what's REALLY going on, you'll feel like you're playing a completely different game.

Not to contradict neurozone's web of lies, but the title was actually a River City Ransom reference.  RCR is one of the truly classic NES games; Seanbaby has a page about it.

And thanks, Scarlet, but I've seen Radix's map.  I'm looking for one that identifies the unofficial names for each area -- "ruins 2", "metroid city 3" and suchlike.  And I've heard at least three m2k2ers use those terms, so someone should be able to answer me.  (glares at the people in question)  ANSWER ME!
*goes to photoshop the hand-drawn map someone made*

Thanks!  A tasty biscuit awaits you.
Cool. So when will you have the biscuits? :P

Didn't find the hand-drawn map I was looking for. It must have been taken down after Radix made his... so... I just used Radix'.

Huh...I might be looking at another art project...

Do you know of a higher-res version of that map right there?  It looks like it was composed of screenshots and sized down.
"after Radix made his [map]"
"Octroll Offshoot" !?!?
It's the only place in the game octrolls exist. It makes sense...
wonder how long it will take mills to update that with the new version that has your @speeddemosarchive.com email. ;)
I s'pose naming regions of the planet makes sense, though "Octroll Offshoot" is like "wtf?".

Now someone needs to go through M2, SM, and MF, and name all the rooms >_>

I wonder how long it takes Nate to update anything  :P
Well, what do you guys want those 4 rooms to be called? :P
I'll be back. Maybe...

I actually might do that if I can find time: it's better than going through Fusion again.
Neat map. For me,

Omega Tunnels = Omega Zone
Ruins 3 Tunnels = Creepy Tunnels
Baby Tunnels = Escape Tunnels

Octroll Offshoot is brilliant  :P

P.S. I think your "ruins 2 hub" is supposed to be "ruins 3" instead.

P.P.S. Was I the only one who caught the "River City Ransom" allusion?

I've no idea why he did it, but I knew that name was what he was refering to.

I'm glad you have no idea, because if you did, you'd be doing better than I am. :)

Thanks, carlmmii!  I shall treasure this map, and keep it in a Space Pirate crate for safekeeping.  (Space Pirates, strangely, dislike theft.)  Your biscuit is forthcoming, and is not so much a real biscuit as a metaphorical one: your sub-1:00 Metroid II run will be the link of the day at my site.

carlmmii's biscuit is now online.

By the way, something I didn't notice at first... the map indicates which Ruins are which, but doesn't mention any Metroid Cities.  Are they the same thing or something?
Yeah, they're the same thing. *gets out 12-year-old manual*

Quote from Metroid II: Return of Samus Manual, page 12:
The underworld of SR388 has many different areas. The tunnels between each area are filled with a dangerous liquid that will deplete Samus of her energy. When an earthquake occurs, the liquid may drain away or fill in areas of the tunnels. Whatch out for the liquid! You must learn to work around it.

Some areas in the caverns appear to be the ruins of an ancient civilization. Check these areas carefully. You may find useful items to make Samus more powerful. It is essential to your task to hunt for these power items.
