this does look truly amazing.
I just want to point out that samus looks..
a bit odd. And the ruins (are they?)need some rubble!
Good luck with your project!
Ruins: they have ruble, stalagmites, many holes and stuff like that, and how can we forget about any kind of remains from living beings! like skeletons, husks (mp3 anyone?) etc

If you can pull off a good game covered with those graphics, you'll make me a happy man!
Armor Guardian
The proportions of Samus's sprite seem to be weird. I don't really like it. :/

Sweeeeeet Very Happy  (didn't watch the thread before)

First off: welcome to the club of original game ideas, I am glad finally not to find only hackers here (no offense). My speaking is very direct when it comes to the point but you will get accustomed to it and it is always meant constructive.

Sweet, you said you are open for ideas? We will see :-)

First, your graphic style does not really inspire me. It looks boring. Look for example MSR388: this style provides more atmosphere and try to figure out why. I don't say you have no potential to do it better. You just took the wrong approach. Also I suggest to take something already existing like SM-Samus, then take nice pieces of Prime-Samus textures and polish it over the SM-Samus. I think with some Photoshop-practise not that difficult to make. With little Creativity voila, you will have the best and coolest looking 2D-Samus ever made so far. (Besides: thats how I am making Samus for SM2 now). And same tip for many other graphics, too.

Not to say to much things at once, but I start with: how important is exploration in your game?

And whatever again, keep your motivation Wink

thx for good word.

Exploration is importand and will be a lot of it.

I dont know ho you are doing your samus character, but this one is hand drown.

By saying that gfx is boring, what exacly you have on mind- is it becouse there is not many details in the tileset yet, or is it the character?

btw. I do have got loads of photoshop practise ^^ is just i dont want this game to look 3D.

I find it hard to belive you know much about GFX at all; Atleast it sounds like it when I read this part of your post.

From what it looks like, this game is 2D and not 3D. This is basic. Your suggestion of mixing the SM samus and prime samus is off since your referring to mixing a sprite with textures. And that don't work. You can run a 2D game on textures, but thats not the point. Mainly since you practically asked him to rip, and use the SM samus.

+ I see nothing wrong the with the 2D styled samus GFX they are using. In fact, it's quite good.

Your also applying that your going to use the same style as you suggest, for your own fan game. That leads us to the point that your not creative.

And by your last words your also saying that he should do the same sort "rip from SM and slap "textures" on them." Wich is both dumb and non-creative.

No offence J-SNAKE. But from reading most of your post, it seams you fail to think befor saying stuff. I don't want to be mean. But by doing this you will hurt fealings. So you should take mind and think befor posting!

Yet, most of the stuff in your post is very non-original. :/

Megatronx:
I suggest you keep the project under cover. It is better. That way it will not be as hard hit if it fails. No offence, but 80% of the fan games thends to fail.

Crys: Think before posting? That is something what you actually didn't do. Stop judging people who you don't even nearly understand.

megatronix:

Your information is exactly what I expected. And that is why I gave you the tips. But it is up to you to reread it again. I don't want bore here with graphics now.

Alright, then can you short say what will be some difference in your Map-Screen-Features compared to SM?
Or will it be just like SM? (this question might sound silly now but it is not)

The graphics are great, megatronx. The concept art at the bottom is really detailed and pretty metroid-like.

The suit is also good. It would be better if it was ... I don't know, less 3-d. You claim you don't want a 3-d game, correct?

Aacheron86: How about at least 3% respect (i have already shown you more)?

The reason of my asking was I just wanted to see if mechatronix has planned to implement a feature in the Map-Screen, which allows you to set marks on the map to remember the things which might be of interest.

So did you plan it? I would do it, if exploration is important. If you see some use in this idea, you are welcome to take it to improve game experience.

And that is the only thing I want, Aacheron86, offering ideas and probably give impulses to enrich something, and ALL of us might take profit one day when we play it. Megatronix said he is interested in ideas, so what's the problem?

My name only has one "A". :|

Anyway, I wasn't talking about your post.

Yes, the background-graphics itself are alright so far.

But Samus is one important thing. Will it look like in the fan game "Metroid Prime 2D"? Or shall it be improved, what would be highly recommend. Like everyone knows the player contributes or disturbes a lot of eye candy. And if Samus does not look and MOVE at least that elegant, like in SM, it would be a faux pas in my personal opinion. As developper of innovative and most expansive realtime movement-system I have a sharp eye for this and sometimes I only need a picture (just like here) to see that it will move awkward that way.

In this running-Samus-picture (second picture in the first post here) for example the angle in knee of her left leg is slightly too big and you also have to take a phase of sprite-frames in which Samus legs are more bent. Just look how it is done in SM. It has 10 run-spriteframes. Just take the sprite-frame
which is most similar to your picture and compare them. You will see in SM the knee is slightly but significantly more bent. Also the torso is slightly more bent. Alltogether the SM spriteframe looks more dynamic and more force.
Now if all comes together it will make negative difference, if you choose exactly the same starting phase like in SM and concider the things I said (you will have a easier live if you take SM-samus as templates, just like I already said) your Samus won't look awkward and will MOVE more dynamic.

And also please don't forget to tell me about the Map-Mark feature :-)
whats is this metroid prime 2d thing you've been talking about, also he clearly said he's making it based of SM...

According to the posts many things are open and I just fix my position here to go sure.
If I've read megatronx's posts correctly, these are mock-ups, not in-game. He's working on that, but this is the art style, not the final product.

I don't like the style, personally, however it reminds me of painted looking games. Specifically, Braid. Which is good.

It is intended to use SM-Samus if not better graphicer found, so far I understand the first post correctly.
Personally I have to say: first CONGRATS, choosing SM-Samus is a must have and a very small first step, but a significant one :-)
I hardly can imagine you will achieve a higher level of atmosphere with CHEAP FUSION - Samus Sprites for example (Contradicters before possible senseless offense: Just watch exactly how Fusion-Samus-Sprites are made and you will have a hard time to believe there is love involved.

It is like I said the player-charakter contributes or disturbes a lot of eye candy.
I don't know exactly what you just said. However, like megatronx said earlier:

Quote from megatronx:
i took prime siute as a templete.

Thus, Super Metroid isn't his main drive in the graphics department. Either way, however, it's not using Super Metroid's graphics, or the graphics from other games. This stuff appears to be done by hand, in a different style. Since it's not going for duplicating an existing game's style to the pixel, it looks fine. Duplicating Prime's style in 2-D wouldn't work, primarily due to the first-person perspective; he's just using the suit as a base.

megatronx can correct me, though.
It isn't?

this game is so hard that i cantr pass first bit XD

anyway. i see there is a lot of confusion. In game gfx are the one in updated post, not in the old one. But game is in development, so you can expect more than that.

thx for interest in the project. :)

Sorry about that, megatronx. Didn't understand initially. Also, I keep thinking "Metroid Braid" with this style. The in-game in the updated post definitely looks good.
