I searched to see if a topic on this existed, but nothing came up.  So...

I'm positive I seen some screen shots of this somewhere, maybe in a gaming magazine a Long time ago.  Confused  One I remember was a scene where Samus was in front of a Chozo statue....  It looked very similar to Super Metroid - just with higher rez graphics and it was considerably more colorful.  I did try to Google for info on this game, but all I could come up with was that it's development was canceled.

Does anyone remember this, or remember seeing any articles or ads about it?

sounds like that's just about all the information there is. the project didn't get very far at all.
They are some pictures of a Metroid game with HD graphics, that were maybe ideas that Nintendo had.

There is this one : http://www.playerschoicegames.com/metroid01-big.jpg

This one : http://thegamecube.ifrance.com/metroid6.jpg

This one : http://www.destructoid.com/elephant//ul/24419-noscale-Super%20Metroid%20HD.jpg

AANND I think that's all.

Aren't the first two from Metroid Prime's first trailer?
That first one was from the earliest footage of Metroid in 3D, I think even before Prime had been announced right?

I can't see the second one, but didn't somebody around here say that the third one with Motherbrain is a fan-made image?
YAY TEXT
I thought that was a fan made image.

I could have sworn I once saw a video of Metroid 64, a long time ago, when it was still to be. It shows samus in a cave of some sort spin jumping across platforms. Maybe that was very early Prime if Prime was originally third person.

Did anyone see the early picture of Prime where Samus had a green beam?
yep. fairly sure that last one is just a fan made picture.

Try it with a proxy.
Re: The above examples; No...  Well, whatever game this was - it was in 2-D...

Hmm.  Maybe that's why I did see something about Super Metroid 64 in my Googling for info.

Question All the Metroid games on the Game Cube were 3-D, correct?  .

Although N64 had primarily 3-D games so...

Dang.

Edit: Perhaps that's why it was scrapped.  If they wanted to focus on 3-D games - 2-D wouldn't have done as well (in their opinion).
Merry Christmas
The 3rd picture I like. I always wanted to create something like that.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It's in production now.  I know because I've been invited to the secret club that has been making the official box art.

What you probably saw was a screenshot of Super Smash bros 64, of Samus in the Zebes stage

This was back in 96...  97'ish, but I could be wrong.  In the mean time; I'm looking for scans of gaming magazines from that era.  Wish me luck with that.  Rolling Eyes

Edit: On 2nd thought...  Maybe if I just happen to come across it by chance.  Neutral

Yes, that's where I found it.  Some of the covers are really quite good.  I like one of the ones for Super Metroid.

As I said earlier and gonna say again, maybe what you saw was a screenshot of the Zebes stage of Super Smash bros, with samus in it,it's the only logical explanation, because, you know, Gunpei Yokoi died by that time, and a couple years before he said that he didn't want to touch on the metroid trilogy(NES metroid/ROS/SM, not Prime 1,2 and 3) ever again, so, I hardly believe that there was ever any Metroid 64 in production
