for some reason my maximum energy is 1 full energy tank and 49 energy i dont get it

You're playing on hard. In hard mode, each energy tank pick up only counts for 1/2 the usual energy.

Here are teh max. stats for each difficulty!

Easy & Normal :

Energy : 1299
Missiles : 250
Super Missiles : 30
Power Bombs : 18

Hard :

Energy : 699
Missiles : 100
Super Missiles : 15
Power Bombs : 9
