"Less Ambiguous"?  I agree.  Just [M] could make someone think of the Metroid series as a whole and it doesn't emphasize which version.  And you don't need to do extra work undoing stuff.  Confused
Ok how do you get this to work? I have a copy of Metroid & the ips both named as ' Metroid X ' . Still not working. I thought Emus did auto-patching. I use Nestopia.
I've always done hard patching using Lunar IPS and never had any problems.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I haven't heard of any other emulators soft-patching but the main SNES ones: ZSNES and snes9x, but I haven't used many, so don't quote me. Razz

Hard-patching is fine, but if the hack gets an update, you have to patch the ROM again, whereas the naming option allows you to just overwrite the file.
Ahh ok Ill try that.

EDIT: woot it works! yay
So far I like this game. My 1st item I got was the Wave Beam and I just found some missiles, still in Norfair. I dont see what the big fuss is about ppl complaining. They need to step up cause Metroid's original difficulty isnt that hard to get used to as long as you know how to play the game.

I agree.  You just need to be extra careful in the very beginning part of the game until you build up a little health, that's all.

Got 2 ETanks, 70 Missiles, Ball, Bombs, Wave & got owned by both Kraid & Ridley. I like the fact that there are clones of them. pretty neat.

EDIT: Oh almost forgot just grabbed Screw Attack as well.  grin new

DBL EDIT: Scratch that, 75 Missiles & also Long Beam.
Im currently stuck. I cant find the Ice Beam, High Jump or Varia Suit. If they are still in the game that is. If so what areas are they in? (i.e. Ice Beam - Norfair, HJ - Ridley Lair, Varia - Kraids, etc...)

Otherwise I cant find anyway to go or progress. Theres an ETank, i believe, in Norfair that requires High Jump and that would help me beat kraid. so would Ice as well. :p & Varia :p grin new
Hmmm... Overall this was fun to play but I didnt like the fact that it was so linear in comparison. Does anyone know what software was used to make this? MAkes me want to make my own and be truer to the original formula of what Metroid is supposed to be.
Time bomb set get out fast!
The author thanks the programmers behind MetEdit in a couple of places, so it's safe to assume that's what he used.  (Also, this hack predates Editroid, which is the other major Metroid editor.)

If you do decide to try your hand, I recommend getting both MetEdit and Editroid, and I wish you luck.  Just don't expect it to be easy -- Metroid is programmed funny in a lot of ways.
Are you still making a recorded run of this Hack or did you already do one? I dont see it in the thread.
Time bomb set get out fast!
Still in progress.  Don't worry, I'll definitely announce it in this thread when it's done.

Did anyone has a map for this game?
Time bomb set get out fast!
Just the one I drew for myself.  I might do a nice copy sometime; you can also use the create-a-map function of Editroid.  But I really recommend just making your own map as you go.  For me, that was half the fun.

I am not sure whether anyone is aware of this but you can play this game ONLINE here.
http://www.derok.net/nes-roms/metroid/x
Many other metroid 1 hacks are online here as well.

It uses the keyboard arrows for moving and Z, X, and enter as your other buttons.
so whats the object of this game it sounds fun
ϟ
Same thing with the original. Just have fun looking at the new colors and level designs.
so its the same but different looks

ok got it
Time bomb set get out fast!
No, "the same with different looks" would mean a strictly graphical hack, like the Justin Bailey patches for later games.  Metroid X is a full hack -- the game is rearranged.  (You'll quickly figure this out when you go for the morph ball and it isn't there.)  The object of the game is the same: beat the minibosses and then Mother Brain.  But you have to find the powerups and elevators and such all over again.
Hacker 347 got banned?  How/When ?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I believe:

When = about a week ago.
Why = refusing to follow the rules in the hacking area, despite numerous warnings.

Beginning to sound all too familiar at the moment. Sad

For those that don't know, I have completed an any% walkthrough of this game here

Here being..?
Time bomb set get out fast!
!!!!!

You disappear for six lousy months and somebody runs the hack you were gonna run!

Regardless, this looks great, KB.  I'll have more to say about it when I've seen the whole thing.  I'm particularly interested to see your route, as I've given a lot of thought to mine.

By the way, how much state-saving was involved?
