sometimes being conceited enough to google your own name comes in handy:

i wish i could ask the guy how he did it, as the video doesn't play back long enough... stupid chinese or japanese or whatever language that site is in.
Thread title:
I think I've seen something similar to this before: If it's the same video I'm thinking of, the guy goes back through Tourian, runs the entire length of Brinstar and heads to Norfair, and finally up to Crateria to escape right? I remember seeing it on YouTube a few weeks ago.

Edit: Yeah, it looks like it's the same video I saw.

Edit 2: And here it is:

Have anyone read the comments on that page? They are SO hilarious. Featuring some really priceless things like "i have beat it with 5% items" and "Very good job, but obviously people trying to break a record aren't going to take this route." :DDD
Mister ...
Pardon me for this post, but hot-damn.  Whoever did that is 1) insane and 2) damned skilled to try it that way.  I don't think I would've ever thought about doing it that way.

Though, there are several little mistakes he/she made that could improve the time by about 30 seconds or so.
Now that would be an interesting thing to have all of us speed run if we had the ability: "See how quick we can go back through Zebes and escape the wrong way!" laugh new

I don't know if it was intended as a part of Nintendo's "sorry about Fusion, we won't ever make a linear game like that!!1" excuse or some kind of programming error, but, unlike every other Metroid game, MZM doesn't lock all the escape ways except the "right" one after the start of a self-destruct sequence. With that thing in mind, it was inevitable for such a demo to appear some day...

Actually, there's "supposed" to be a barrier stopping you from leaving to the right, but sometimes, it randomly disappears.
Ah, so it is a programming error then. Kinda strange, though. I take it no-one has solved the "randomness" of that event?

i've spent a good hour trying to get it to happen with no luck. as for the guy being skilled, his play for those two and a half minutes wasn't exactly top notch. I think that's possible in under two minutes, though I can't say I've tested it.

doesn't really matter though as it's essentially useless. it's just kind of neat to see.
It would only be useful if it would allow us to skip the suitless segment and grant us access to the Mother Ship earlier.

there were so many mistakes in that, and the speed tricks were just the basic ones that you would do. but since you have over 30 seconds of leeway, it doesnt have to be perfect.
Magnificent.
I thought that the doors locked themselves after Mommy dies.
kewl. I never thought that it would be possible that way.
8-)
Wait, cool video and all, wasnt there a block that appeared to stop you from going back through the zeebtites? Hmm looks like this person gets to the ledge before it appears. You would think it would be safe to stop running once  you reached a far distance in Tourian. Remember that Tourian was was only partly burned? I never thought the explosion would reach so far.
The block appears as soon as you enter, but sometimes (rarely) it doesnt appear.

The best part of the whole video is getting the charge beam while escaping... :D  but 3 minutes- doesnt it have to be easy mode for that?

The guy was pretty sloppy though, it could probably be done in 2.
Mister ...
The guy probably coulda easily done it in two.  if he had built up a couple of Speed Boost charges and used them in the right places...

I'm sitting here thinking he coulda done the exit by where you start the game as well, but you need power bombs for that tid-bit, so that wouldn't work.

If you read the thread linked in the third post in this thread, you'll see that various things like that were tried to see if it was possible to abate the timer.

Really, I don't quite see why people here are talking about this vid as if it's the only one that's been done of that when the whole idea was developed in that other thread and these aspects discussed.  There are other vids linked in that thread, too.
the answer, of course, is laziness.
Pretty cool. Never tried it though.
wow thats pretty cool. i laughed when he tried to build up a speed boost in the begining of norfair and then didnt open the door in time to use it. ^_^

i forget who mentioned this but its true that only tourian gets scorched in the explosion, brinstar and norfair and such are untouched. i expirimented in gamesharked rom once and it turns out if you can get to chozodia, the timer stops. of course you need Power Bombs... which would be the reason to try to get the one under MB early. too bad ya cant. (sorry for rambling on)
It took me many tries, but I got the block to not appear, and escaped with about 35 seconds left.  Even though I made lots of little mistakes due to not ever doing the escape that way, I don't think a sub 2 minute escape would be possible.  If it is possible, then not by much.
