I'm going for a low% run of hard mode. Is it still possible in Trilogy? I don't recall being able to pull it off a year ago or so when I played normal low%.
Well, I was going for as low as possible, but I only have time until Sunday to play, so I can't spend too much time on tricks.
I don't know which items I should skip. I beat Flaahgra without the Charge Beam, but I think it'll take too long to pull off that Artifact of Wild trick. I'm pretty sure I won't skip the Spider Ball, Boost Ball and Grapple Beam. Do you think it's easy to skip the Thermal Visor? I've already skipped the Gravity Suit so I know I can do that.
wild can only be done via SW in trilogy, spider isnt to hard iirc, boost ball is needed for somthing (plasma I think), grapple is somthing you really want, plasma without grapple is the hard low% trick I've ever pulled off before..
I'd say do a 24% getting grapple, or do a 25% getting grapple and spider
I think Spider is impossible to skip because you can't ghetto jump to the spider track anymore. There's a block that prevents you. I've skipped the Spider Ball before on the original but I couldn't on Trilogy iirc.
So I need Charge Beam / Super Missiles for Wild too. I don't fancy going to SWs.
I think I can only skip the Thermal Visor + Gravity Suit at this rate.
if you mean the room after furnace, a BSJ can get you up there but only in the JP version since the invisible block doesn't vanish until you get Spider.
I skipped the Thermal Visor, Charge Beam + Super Missiles and I beat Thardus. Right now, I'm gonna go and get the Ice Beam. Then get the early Power Bomb Expansion, then the Phazon Mines for the Grapple Beam, then the Plasma Beam, and then the Omega Pirate. Oh boy I don't even want to imagine how hard HE'S gonna be.
Enjoy Omega Pirate without the Charge Beam... his minions will probably be really irritating. Especially since you're playing on hard mode.
Something I have noticed regarding Meta Ridley on Hard (original PAL version) is that charged Plasma shots do as much damage as Super Missiles. This leads me to believe that Meta Ridley is weak against fire. However, I still switched to the Power Beam for the ground phase, since I still think a Super Missile is a better option for his chest once I've stunned him by hitting him in the mouth. I probably could have carried on with charged Plasma, but I suppose I'm used to using Super Missiles on him, and the fact that I had 250 of them, having not used any in the flying phase, was nice.
Question: When I go into the Central Dynamo (the place where you get the Power Bomb) can I exit it without getting the Power Bomb? Do the doors unlock that way?
yeah. the reason you need the main PB is that the fight against phazon elite whon't trigger if you don't have it and you need to beat him for one artifact.
you need to either go though the frigate without gravity suit, use a SW in life grove or jump over the bars (this last one in JP version only)
o_O I won't be able to use the Super Missile or Charge Beam on Omega Ridley or Meta Ridley O_o
That's the point I was making. When I said "Enjoy it", I basically meant "Good luck - rather you than me" - the Beam Troopers will make your life hell without the Charge Beam. As will those bosses.
Going back to what I was saying about Meta Ridley, is he actually weak against fire, or do charged Plasma shots really do about the same damage as Super Missiles - and am I right to switch to Power Beam for the ground phase (Hard mode) so I can use Supers, or should I stick to Plasma? Do charged Plasma shots work as well as charged Power on his mouth and Super Missiles on his chest for his ground phase?
They were horrible in my normal mode low% playthrough. I used Omega Pirate's own attack to kill them though.
I think charged Plasma beam shots do about the same damage as Super Missiles in general.
I prefer to use Super Missiles for both flying Meta Ridley and Meta Ridley on the ground anyway in case I accidentally move my hand and miss with the Plasma Beam. Super Missile has auto aim, so..
IIRC on a damage chart that's floating around on the net Charged Plasma does 5 damage less than Super Missiles. Where 1 damage is 1 uncharged Power Beam shot.
It's something like that. I probably got the number wrong though.
